With the development of Genetically Modified (GM) food, security issue is being paid increasing attention. In this paper, a comprehensive model taking account factors which influencing GM food security is proposed. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used to derive the weight of each attribute in different levels according to their importance. Basic Probability Assignment (BPA) function is generated by the safety degree of each element, then we use BPA function of the Dempster-Shafer evidence to represent the inclination of the elements. The safety degree of GM food will be get when weight was used as the discount factor and each attribute data was combined based on discount combination rule. 1548-7741/Copyright © 2011 Binary Information Press.

One of the key issues in the applications of Dempster-Shafer evidence theory is how to make a decision based on Basic Probability Assignment (BPA). The conventional method is Pignistic Probability Transformation (PPT), which transforms BPA to probability distribution with equally assignment. To solve the existing problems of pignistic probability transformation, a new transformation method using an optimization algorithm based on the conflict coefficient k is proposed in this paper. The obtained probability has the minimum conflict coefficient with the original BPA. Numerical examples are used to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method. © 2011 by Binary Information Press.

Due to the explosive growth in ubiquitous multimedia access, one needs to adapt the considerable number of pre-encoded video content to a wide variety of user constraints such as different resolution, bitrate, frame rate, processing power and platform. Current adaptation frameworks do not take the encoder into account. In other words the encoder optimizes its outcome for the base layer only, regardless of the remaining adaptation layers and the resulted distortion once the adaptation is applied. In this paper, a joint multi rate optimization algorithm has been proposed for H.264/AVC that generates an encoded bitstream that will have the minimum distortion across all the layers combined, hence providing an improved experience for a larger number of users. The proposed scheme, that only supports bitrate adaption, is independent of the adaptation algorithm and is applicable to most existing adaptation frameworks. Simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme improves the video quality by up to 0.8 dB. The quality improvement of the adapted content is more significant in lower bitrates where even small improvements are visually noticeable due to the inherent low quality in these bitrates.

Scalable video coding allows for post-encoding adaptation of the coded bit stream. An appropriate rate-distortion model of the embedded bit stream can be useful for deriving closed-form relations between the parameters of the scalable encoder and the time-varying channel condition values. With a well-defined model, an adaptation mechanism can quickly update the optimal values of the encoder parameters within each transmission period, and hence, a real-time implementation may be realized. In this paper, two simple and accurate empirical (hyperbolic and exponential) models are developed for modeling the rate-distortion characteristics of a scalable video encoder based on motion-compensated temporal filtering (MCTF) and two-dimensional (spatial) discrete wavelet transform (2D-DWT). The experimental results demonstrate that the hyperbolic model has an acceptable approximation error (0.2~0.85dB) relative to the actual measurements, however, the exponential model demonstrates more error (0.75~3dB) relative to the actual measurements.

Multiple description scalable coding based on T+2D wavelet decomposition structure is highly flexible for peer-to-peer (P2P) video streaming. Finding the optimal truncation point of each code block (CB) within each description is an NP-hard problem. To implement an efficient low-complexity solution, we propose a simple clustering algorithm for partitioning the CBs into a limited number of clusters, such that one can find the optimal cluster-level redundancy-rate assignment matrix using a low-complexity full search. This approach improves the decoding quality compared to the co-echelon frameworks in which a non-optimal rate assignment matrix is used. In addition, the proposed clustering approach may be analytically represented by closed-form relations for low-complexity computation of optimal encoding parameters. The simulation results demonstrate that the adaptive proposed framework outperforms the approaches in by (0.25~1 dB), the scheme of by (1.3~1.6 dB), and the non-adaptive multiple description coding by (2.3~4.3 dB). Furthermore, the proposed clustering approach requires %52-%88 less computations compared to the framework in.

Speech enhancement is one of the key and challenging techniques for a real-time speech recording system working in a meeting room, where cancellation of the competing speech and improvement of the speech intelligibility are two major concerns. In this paper, the application of frequency invariant beamforming to the speech enhancement problem based on the generalized sidelobe cancellation (GSC) structure is studied. It leads to a novel hybrid broadband speech enhancement technique, which combines the ideas of subband processing, frequency invariant beamforming and voice activity detection under the GSC framework. Simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms two previously proposed ones in terms of speech distortion, background noise and competing speech reduction. © 2010 IEEE.

To efficiently perform large matrix LU decomposition on FPGAs with limited local memory, the original algorithm needs to be blocked. In this paper, we propose a block LU decomposition algorithm for FPGAs, which is applicable for matrices of arbitrary size. We introduce a high performance hardware design, which mainly consists of a linear array of processing elements (PEs), to implement our block LU decomposition algorithm. A total of 36 PEs can be integrated into a Xilinx Virtex-5 xc5vlx330 FPGA on our self-designed PCI-Express card, reaching a sustained performance of 8.50 GFLOPS at 133 MHz, which outperforms previous work.

Recently there has been a great deal of interest in using features intrinsic to a data-generating sensor for the purpose of source identification. Numerous methods have been proposed for different problems related to sensor forensics, such as source camera identification using sensor noise as intrinsic signatures, printer identification using banding artifacts as intrinsic signatures and so on. The goal of our work is to identify the scanner used for generating a scanned (digital) version of a printed (hard-copy) document. In this paper we do extensive analysis of the effect of font shape and size on our recently proposed, texture analysis based intrinsic signatures for scanned documents. Some improvements in these intrinsic signatures are proposed to make them robust to font shapes and sizes.

Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is a neurological disease that affects millions of individuals in the world. Majority of TLE patients suffer from refractory seizures. Determining abnormal/damaged regions of the brain that harbor seizure focus is a critical step towards treatment of TLE patients. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is a non-invasive method that we use in this work to determine damaged regions of white matter in the brain. To this end, we apply two methods, voxel based morphometry (VBM) and fiber tracking. We use these methods along with two anisotropy maps (EAR and FA) extracted from the DTI data. We use DTI data of 31 subjects (12 normal subjects and 19 TLE patients) for testing and evaluation studies. The VBM method shows that TLE is associated with reduction of both of FA and EAR values in several regions within the temporal lobes. The tractography method shows abnormal diffusion characteristics in three fiber bundles (fornix, uncinate fasciculus, and cingulum). The results show that the EAR maps are less sensitive to noise than the FA maps and the EAR values change more than the FA values in TLE. ©2010 IEEE.

Video surveillance systems are commonly used by security personnel to monitor and record activity in buildings, public gatherings, busy roads, and parking lots. These systems allow many cameras to be observed by a small number of trained human operators but suffer from potential operator fatigue and lack of attention due to the large amount of information provided by cameras which can distract the operator from focusing on important events. In this paper, we propose the design of an autonomous video surveillance system which can operate from a standoff range that analyzes approaching vehicles in order to detect security anomalies. Such anomalies, based on dynamic analysis of the vehicle tracks, include unexpected slowing/stopping or sudden acceleration, particularly near check points or critical structures (e.g. government buildings). A human supervisor can be alerted whenever a significant event is detected and can then determine if the vehicle should be further inspected. Besides dynamic analysis, the system also estimates physical information about the vehicles such as make, body type and tire size. We describe low-complexity techniques to obtain the above information from two cameras.
