Introducing virtualization enhances the flexibility of time-sensitive networking (TSN), wherein applications manifest as service function chains comprising a series of virtual network functions (VNFs). However, such virtualized TSN realizes determinacy through global configuration, being too complicated to serve dynamic applications in time. To address this issue, we innovatively propose to achieve TSN scheduling by distributively executing admission control (AC), whereby the scheduling complexity is radically reduced. Specifically, we first build a two-way AC model that captures TSN multi-queue characteristics. Then, we define admissible regions of nodes and links, working as metrics for AC decision-making and enabling feasible TSN scheduling. Built upon this, we propose a joint AC and VNF embedding mechanism, Rapid Admission Control (RapidAC), which consists of two algorithms. The first algorithm responds to dynamic applications rapidly and derives node-mapping solutions by judging nodes’ admissible regions. Based on this, the second algorithm augments the detailed VNF embedding solution according to admissible regions of links. Simulation results show that RapidAC reduces runtime by 90% compared with existing TSN scheduling algorithms.

Language impairment may be an important early manifestation of dementia. In this study, we propose a multi-feature fusion to distinguish MCI and AD patients. In this paper, a set of acoustic, demographic and linguistic features were selected, and after data processing, logistic regression algorithm was used to diagnose MCI and AD patients. In order to get better results, comparative experiments are also effectively conducted, including different combination methods and different group distinctions with the three most popular algorithms. Studies have shown that this method is more advantageous and the classification results are more accurate.

Topic shift detection aims to identify whether there is a change in the current topic of conversation or if a change is needed. The study found previous work did not evaluate the performance of large language models like ChatGPT on the task of topic shift. Therefore, this paper's main task and innovation lie in analyzing ChatGPT's performance on topic shift detection. To provide a more comprehensive evaluation, we conducted topic shift detection tasks on ChatGPT from three aspects: single utterances, adjacent utterances, and contextual levels. Additionally, to gauge the performance of large language models, we conducted experiments on multiple small-scale models and compared the results of the two models. Experimental results on the publicly available English TIAGE dataset showed that small-scale models exhibited lower recall in all three aspects, while ChatGPT performed better in the recall. This suggests that compared to small-scale models, large models are more capable of accurately detecting topic shifts. However, large models also exhibited lower precision, indicating that while ChatGPT can recognize content differences in utterances, its judgment on whether these different contents belong to the same topic is poor.

Industrial Scene Text Detection with Refined Feature-attentive Network

Detecting the marking characters of industrial metal parts remains challenging due to low visual contrast, uneven illumination, corroded surfaces, and cluttered background of metal part images. Affected by these factors, bounding boxes generated by most existing methods could not locate low-contrast text areas very well. In this paper, we propose a refined feature-attentive network (RFN) to solve the inaccurate localization problem. Specifically, we first design a parallel feature integration mechanism to construct an adaptive feature representation from multi-resolution features, which enhances the perception of multi-scale texts at each scale-specific level to generate a high-quality attention map. Then, an attentive proposal refinement module is developed by the attention map to rectify the location deviation of candidate boxes. Besides, a re-scoring mechanism is designed to select text boxes with the best rectified location. To promote the research towards industrial scene text detection, we contribute two industrial scene text datasets, including a total of 102156 images and 1948809 text instances with various character structures and metal parts. Extensive experiments on our dataset and four public datasets demonstrate that our proposed method achieves the state-of-the-art performance. Cloud computing (CC) refers to the transmission, storage, and processing of any type of information at a location that is not owned or controlled by the information owner. This information can be stored and accessed anytime, from anywhere, and using any device. However, several challenges threaten the deployment of cloud computing technology within organizations, including user privacy, data integrity, and managing the retention of the vast amount of data that will be stored and analyzed in this environment. In recent years, various data integrity checking systems and data storage mechanisms have been proposed to address these diverse challenges. Nevertheless, some protocols do not guarantee data confidentiality against auditors during the auditing process, while others do not provide batch auditing. Additionally, the majority of these protocols do not support the deduplication technique. Therefore, in this research work, the security features of blockchain technology and those of multi-agent systems (MAS) have prompted us to propose models that enable both data deduplication, saving storage space, and data integrity auditing, efficiently verifying the accuracy of data outsourced to CC environments. Implementation findings indicate that the suggested system is highly feasible and applicable in real-world scenarios. © 2024 by the authors of this article.

In controlling biological diseases, it is often more potent to use a combination of agents than using individual ones. However, the number of possible combinations increases exponentially with the number of agents and their concentrations. It is prohibitive to search for effective agent combinations by trial and error as biological systems are complex and their responses to agents are often a slow process. This motivates to build a suitable model to describe the biological systems and help reduce the number of experiments. In this paper, we consider the use of fungicides to inhibit Bipolarismaydis and construct models that describe the responses to fungicide combinations. Three data-driven modeling methods, the polynomial regression, the artificial neural network and the support vector regression, are compared based on the experimental data of the inhibition rates of the southern corn leaf blight with different fungicide combinations. The analysis of the results demonstrates that the support vector regression is best suited to the construction of the response model in terms of achieving better prediction with fewer experiments.

We model a platooning system including trucks and a third-party service provider that performs platoon coordination, distributes the platooning profit within platoons, and charges the trucks in exchange for its services. This paper studies one class of pricing rules, where the third-party service provider keeps part of the platooning profit each time a platoon is formed. Furthermore, we propose a platoon coordination solution based on distributed model predictive control in which the pricing rule is integrated. To evaluate the effect of the pricing on the platooning system, we perform a simulation over the Swedish road network. The simulation shows that the platooning rate and profit highly depend on the pricing. This suggests that pricing needs to be set carefully to obtain a satisfactory platooning system in the future.

The dramatic growth of massive semantic data has brought about great challenges to the distributed storage for large data. The core technology of distributed storage is graph partitioning. This paper discussed the partition mechanism for graph data flow and the strategy of partitioning heuristic function, and the partitioning algorithm and implementation process of graph data flow for the RDF file. The experiment verified the validity of the partitioning algorithm for graph data flow by comparing with METIS (a multi-level graph partitioning algorithm) and hash partitioning methods, using several true RDF datasets.

This paper studies semi-global leader-following output consensus of a multi-agent system. Each follower agent in the system, described by a general linear system subject to external disturbances and actuator saturation, is to track the leader agent. Conditions on the agent dynamics are identified under which a low gain feedback based linear state control algorithm is constructed for each follower agent such that the leader-following output consensus is achieved when the communication topology among the agents is a directed graph that contains no loop and the leader is globally reachable. In addition, discussions and simulations are also provided for the output consensus in the presence of actuator saturation.

PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) are a type of small non-coding RNAs which bind with the PIWI proteins to exert biological effects in various regulatory mechanisms. A growing amount of evidence reveals that exosomal piRNAs are potential biomarkers for diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases. Effective methods for the prediction of exosomal piRNAs are the foundation of piRNA functional research. In this study, we propose an end-to-end deep network for identifying exosomal piRNAs based on features learned from natural language processing (NLP) models for sequence embedding with attention mechanism. First, a benchmark dataset is constructed by processing piRNA subcellular localization annotated data and sequence data. Moreover, bagging positive unlabeled learning is applied to get the reliable negative set. Finally, we treat a piRNA sequence as a sentence and its k-mer subsequence as a token. Sequence embedding models with self-attention mechanism is designed to extract features from exosome piRNA sequences, which are used for the prediction task. Compared with three competing methods, our model achieves the best performance and reveals the key factors of exosomal piRNA sequences by the attention mechanism. Our model characterizes exosomal piRNAs and could be beneficial for researchers to investigate exosomal piRNAs’ functions.
