The human can easily recognize the incongruous parts of an image, for example, perturbations unrelated to the image itself, but are poor at spotting the small geometric transformations. However, in terms of the robustness of deep neural networks (DNNs), the ability to properly recognize objects with small geometric transformations is still a challenge. In this work, we investigate the problem from the perspective of adversarial attacks: does the performance of DNNs degrade even when small geometric transformations are applied to images? To this end, we propose a novel adversarial attack method, called WBA, a Warping-Based Adversarial attack method, which does not introduce information independent of the original images but manipulates the existing pixels of the images by elastic warping transformations to generate adversarial examples that are imperceptible to the human eye. At the same time, existing adversarial attacks typically generate adversarial examples by modifying pixels in the spatial domain of the image, the addition of such perturbations introduces extra information unrelated to the image itself and is easily detected by the naked eyes. We demonstrate the effectiveness of WBA by extensive experiments on commonly used datasets, including MNIST, CIFAR10, and ImageNet. The results show that WBA can quickly generate adversarial examples with the highest adversarial strength, consumes less time, and can be comparable to optimization-based adversarial attack methods in image perception evaluation metrics such as LPIPS, SSIM, and far more than gradient direction-based iterative methods.

With the rapid growth of large language models, cloud computing has become an indispensable component of the AI industry. Cloud service providers(CSPs) are establishing AI data centers to service AI workloads. In the face of this surging need for AI computing power, building a connected computing environment across various clouds and forming a JointCloud presents an attractive solution. However, scheduling AI tasks across multiple AI data centers within a JointCloud environment presents a significant challenge: how to balance users’ demands while ensuring CSPs’ fairness in scheduling. Existing research primarily focuses on optimizing scheduling quality with limited consideration for fairness. Therefore, this paper proposes a Fairness-Aware AI-Workloads Allocation method (F3A), a fair cross-cloud allocation technique for AI tasks. F3A utilizes Point and Token to reflect both the resource status and historical task allocations of AI data centers, enabling the consideration of users’ multidimensional demands and facilitating fair task allocation across multiple centers. In order to better assess the fairness of scheduling, we also devised a fairness indicator(FI), based on the Gini coefficient to measure the fairness of task allocation. The experimental results demonstrate that F3A consistently maintains FI within 0.1 across various cluster sizes and different task quantities, representing an improvement of 76.45% compared to classical fair scheduling algorithms round-robin. F3A exhibits commendable performance in ensuring fairness in task allocation while also demonstrating effectiveness in cost reduction and enhancing user satisfaction.

Serverless computing, comprised of Function as a Service (FaaS) and Backend as a Service (BaaS), has garnered widespread attention owning to its features such as maintenance-free operations, pay-per-use pricing, and automatic scalability. However, practical usage encounters several challenges: 1) The diversity of user applications makes comprehensive performance evaluation difficult, as benchmark and application tests only reflect performance under specific conditions and cannot fully capture users’ actual experiences across different serverless platforms. 2) Disparities in performance and costs across different serverless platforms make it challenging to achieve optimal performance and cost efficiency through single-cloud deployment, thereby underutilizing the advantages of each platform. 3) Vendor lock-in issues restrict the migration of user applications and exacerbate dependence on a single cloud *** address these challenges, this paper proposes a collaborative mechanism, referred to as DCSA, which integrates FaaS and storage services to achieve automatic cross-cloud deployment of user applications while considering both performance and cost comprehensively. Firstly, we adapt the interfaces of different serverless platforms, effectively reducing the complexity of cross-cloud deployment. Secondly, we develop cost and latency models for the cross-cloud deployment of chained serverless applications and propose a deployment scheduling algorithm that simultaneously considers both latency and cost. Finally, we conduct experiments to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm. Results demonstrate that our method can effectively reduce latency (up to 2.3%) and lower costs (up to 9.9%).

Facts in military field tend to involve elements of time, space, quantity, status, and so on. Existing methods of representing knowledge in the form of triples fail to adequately express these facts, and also cause obstacles to knowledge storage and updating. Furthermore, question answering on these facts introduces new complexity dimension, which are complicated to be supported by existing corpus. Thus, we construct a Chinese knowledge base for military field covering entities and events centric knowledge, referred as MilKB. It consists of 965 entities and 3,017 facts. Moreover, we classify the natural questions into 26 types and construct a complex question answering dataset derived from MilKB, referred as MilKBQA. It consists of 2,829 question-answer pairs, in which 600 are event-centric ones. Experiments with three recent strong baseline models demonstrate that MilKBQA requires further research. © 2021 IEEE.

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a common musculoskeletal illness. To solve the problem that inaccurate knee joint localization and inadequate knee OA features extracted from plain radiographs affect the accuracy of knee OA diagnosis in X-rays, we propose a novel Two-Stage Convolutional Neural Network (TS-CNN) method, consisting of the KneeDetnet and the KLnet. The KneeDetnet with two small multi-task convolutional neural networks is proposed to locate knee joints, improving the accuracy of knee joint localization. Then KLnet is designed to assess knee OA, where a shared Siamese network via ResNet is used to extract more discriminative deep learning features that are fused with gender information for obtaining richer features. Our method is evaluated on public OAI and MOST datasets. The highest detection accuracy of knee joints can reach 99.93% and 99.02% on two datasets, respectively. The KLnet algorithm achieves 78.85% and 68.20% prediction accuracy on the OAI and MOST datasets, respectively. Experimental results show that our method outperforms the existing workhorse. In this paper, we present OpenMedIA, an open-source toolbox library containing a rich set of deep learning methods for medical image analysis under heterogeneous Artificial Intelligence (AI) computing platforms. Various medical image analysis methods, including 2D/3D medical image classification, segmentation, localisation, and detection, have been included in the toolbox with PyTorch and/or MindSpore implementations under heterogeneous NVIDIA and Huawei Ascend computing systems. To our best knowledge, OpenMedIA is the first open-source algorithm library providing compared PyTorch and MindSpore implementations and results on several benchmark datasets. With the increasing adoption of graph neural networks (GNNs) in the graph-based deep learning community, various graph programming frameworks and models have been developed to improve the productivity of GNNs. The current GNN frameworks choose GPU as an essential tool to accelerate GNN training. However, it is still challenging to train GNNs on large graphs with limited GPU memory. Unlike traditional neural networks, generating mini-batch data by sampling in GNNs requires some complicated tasks such as traversing the graph to select neighboring nodes and gathering their features. This process takes up most of the training and we find the main bottleneck comes from transferring nodes features from CPU to GPU through limited bandwidth. In this paper, We propose a method Reusing Batch Data for the problem of data transmission. This method utilizes the similarity between adjacent mini-batches to reduce repeated data transmission from CPU to GPU. Furthermore, to reduce the overhead introduced by this method, we design a fast algorithm based on GPU to detect repeated nodes’ data and achieve shorter additional computation time. Evaluations on three representative GNN models show that our method can reduce transmission time by up to 60% and speed the end-to-end GNN training by up to 1.79× over the state-ofthe-art baselines. Besides, Reusing Batch Data can effectively save GPU memory footprint by about 19% to 40% while still reducing the training time compared to the static cache strategy.

Isolation forest (iForest) has been emerging as arguably the most popular anomaly detector in recent years due to its general effectiveness across different benchmarks and strong scalability. Nevertheless, its linear axis-parallel isolation method often leads to (i) failure in detecting hard anomalies that are difficult to isolate in high-dimensional/non-linear-separable data space, and (ii) notorious algorithmic bias that assigns unexpectedly lower anomaly scores to artefact regions. These issues contribute to high false negative errors. Several iForest extensions are introduced, but they essentially still employ shallow, linear data partition, restricting their power in isolating true anomalies. Therefore, this paper proposes deep isolation forest. We introduce a new representation scheme that utilises casually initialised neural networks to map original data into random representation ensembles, where random axis-parallel cuts are subsequently applied to perform the data partition. This representation scheme facilitates high freedom of the partition in the original data space (equivalent to non-linear partition on subspaces of varying sizes), encouraging a unique synergy between random representations and random partition-based isolation. Extensive experiments show that our model achieves significant improvement over state-of-the-art isolation-based methods and deep detectors on tabular, graph and time series datasets;our model also inherits desired scalability from iForest. © 2022, CC BY.

With serverless computing offering more efficient and cost-effective application deployment, the diversity of serverless platforms presents challenges to users, including platform lock-in and costly migration. Moreover, due to the black box nature of function computing, traditional performance benchmarking methods are not applicable, necessitating new studies. This article presents a detailed comparison of six major public cloud function computing platforms and introduces a benchmarking framework for function computing performance. This framework aims to help users make comprehensive comparisons and select the most suitable platform for their specific needs.
