Graphic processing Unit (GPU), with many light-weight data-parallel cores, can provide substantial parallel computational power to accelerate general purpose applications. But the powerful computing capacity could not be fully utilized for memory-intensive applications, which are limited by off-chip memory bandwidth and latency. Stencil computation has abundant parallelism and low computational intensity which make it a useful architectural evaluation benchmark. In this paper, we propose some memory optimizations for a stencil based application mgrid from SPEC 2 K benchmarks. Through exploiting data locality in 3-level memory hierarchies and tuning the thread granularity, we reduce the pressure on the off-chip memory bandwidth. To hide the long off-chip memory access latency, we further prefetch data during computation through double-buffer. In order to fully exploit the CPU-GPU heterogeneous system, we redistribute the computation between these two computing resource. Through all these optimizations, we gain 24.2 x speedup compared to the simple mapping version, and get as high as 34.3 x speedup when compared with a CPU implementation.

Consistency and responsiveness are two important factors in providing the sense of reality in distributed Virtual Environment (DVE). However, it is not easy to optimize both aspects because of the trade-off between these two factors. As a result, most existing consistency maintenance methods ignored the responsiveness requirements, or just assumed a simple responsiveness requirement model which cannot meet the real need of DVE systems. In this paper, we first present a new responsiveness requirement model. The model can describe requirement satisfaction situation of each node. Base on this model, we propose a responsiveness requirement based consistency method. The method can adjust the utilization of time resource according to the requirements of different nodes and improve the overall responsiveness performance by at least 20%. Therefore, it provides a good support to increase the applicability of DVE systems.

The memory wall problem makes researches on memory hierarchy more and more important. And in these researches, software simulation plays a significant role. To model the real runtime environment, full system simulators have been widely used. However, researchers are often perplexed by the precise problem when they run a parallel program on a full system multi-core simulator, especially in multiple configurations. Because the influence arising from operating system and the relative execution speed of parallel threads often make the performance of target programs uncertain. To solve the precise problem, this paper proposes a single execution multi-configuration simulation framework (SEMCS). Then we design and implement a Simics module, called trans-multicast using the SEMCS framework. Finally, we test a benchmark from SPEComp2001 on a four core processor in three memory hierarchy configurations. And the result has verified the effectiveness of the SEMCS framework.

A Hohlraum-like configuration is proposed for realizing a simple compact source for neutrons. A laser pulse enters a tiny thin-shelled hollow-sphere target through a small opening and is self-consistently trapped in the cavity. The electrons in the inner shell-wall region are expelled by the light pressure. The resulting space-charge field compresses the local ions into a thin layer that becomes strongly heated. An inward expansion of ions into the shell cavity then occurs, resulting in the formation at the cavity center of a hot spot of ions at high density and temperature, similar to that in inertial electrostatic confinement.

It is of great significance to optimize the design of on-chip memory system for improving the performance of multi-core processor. This paper describes the organization of on-chip memory hierarchy in UltraSPARC T2, analyzes the procedure of dealing with the memory access request from multi-core processor in detail. To get the basic parameters of timing characteristic and area consumption, the primary element of on-chip memory system is simulated by ModelSim and synthesized by Synopsys Design Complier with 90 nm standard cell library. Aimed at the potential limiting factor of improving the performance of memory hierarchy, corresponding optimization techniques of critical elements in memory system are explored finally.

distributed Virtual Environment (DVE) systems have become more and more important both in academic communities and the industries. To guarantee the load constrain, the physical world integrity and the virtual world integrity, the virtual environment should be divided into several parts and mapped to multiple servers, which are located in geographically different places. Many centralized algorithms based on regular cutting method are proposed to solve this problem. However, the dynamic property of clients and distributed property of the system make the existing algorithms unable to undertake it. In this paper, we propose a metric to measure the cutting quality and design a distributed mapping algorithm based on an irregular cutting. Simulation results show that our algorithm greatly decreases the costs of DVE systems for migration of clients and effectively improves the satisfaction degree of users.

Multi-island single electron transistor (SET) has become a promising candidate for the kernel device of the logic circuit in the near future. A novel compact analytical model for multi-island SET is proposed in terms of current. The new approach is based on the orthodox theory of single electron tunnelling and steady-state master equation. The model is accurate and fast compared with SIMON, and suitable for the ASIC design of multi-island SET circuit simulation.

The low efficiency and uncertainty routing is correct is a problem for resource location of an unstructured p2p network. It is hard to achieve high query hit with small cost and low latency for such kind of network. In this paper, we present a p2p query routing algorithm which is based on semantic cluster (SCQR). SCQR makes nodes clustered according to their semantic, and each cluster elects a super-node as cluster computing node which is responsible for computing cluster semantic and establishing links with all neighbor cluster computing nodes. Query is routed among cluster computing nodes. SCQR achieves high query hit with small routing latency and query cost in both analytical theoretical and experimental studies.

As a typical social media in web2.0 era, blogs have become more and more important to information diffusion. Different from the traditional news, the information spread on blogs is primarily driven by users and their relations. According to this phenomenon, this paper addresses the novel problem of measuring the influence of social structures on information diffusion. This paper extracts the hidden communities and information diffusion networks on blogs, and proposes a novel quantitative measurement to investigate the influence of social networks structure on diffusion networks. The proposed methods measure the influence by utilizing a simple but effective graph similarity measuring method. The experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms and measurements, and discover the correlation between social networks and the diffusion of the "interest" topics, which indicates the necessity of using social structures for information detection and tracking on blogs.

Scheduling algorithm for long duration transaction based on cost of compensation

Transaction of service composition has long-lived feature which a global-transaction is divided into several distributed sub-transactions. Atomicity property is preserved by using compensating transactions, which semantically undo the effects of the completed sub-transactions, in case of global-transaction abort. However, the cost of compensation may be expensive and methods may be complex. To overcome this limitation, a novel scheduling algorithm named STCD (SubTransaction committing delay) is presented based on analysis of compensation. Different from traditional methods, sub-transactions determine the time of committing according to both the cost of compensation and the state of execution dynamically. The correctness of proposed algorithm is proved. Simulations show that STCD algorithm can confine the compensation sphere and reduce the cost of compensation. © by Institute of Software, the Chinese Academy of Sciences. All rights reserved.
