Context situation, which means a snapshot of the status of the real world, is formed by integrating a large amount of contexts collected from various resources. How to get the context situation and use the situation to provide better services is a challenging issue. In this paper, we focused on this challenge on the basis of the mobile cloud computing architecture. An abstract model is proposed in this paper to uniformly collect the context and send them to cloud. A rule-based large-scale context aggregation algorithm is also proposed which utilizes the MapReduce computing paradigm. Finally, a large-scale context management framework based on the abstract model and the context aggregation algorithm is proposed, and a real-time traffic demo is implemented to verify the validity of the framework. © 2012 IEEE.

This paper addresses the optimization of parallel simulators for large-scale parallel systems and applications. Such simulators are often based on parallel discrete event simulation with conservative or optimistic protocols to synchronize the simulating processes. The paper considers how available future information about events and application behaviors can be efficiently extracted and further exploited to improve the performance of adaptive optimistic protocols. First, we extract information about future events and their dependencies in application traces to guide adaptive adjustments of time window in trace-driven parallel simulation. Second, we use information about application behaviors, specifically the iterative behavior found in many applications, to avoid the unnecessary adjustments of time window. These techniques are implemented in the BigSim simulator and tested by real-world and standard benchmark applications including Jacobi3D and HPL. The results show that our optimization approaches can reduce the execution times of simulation ranging from 11% up to 32%. Moreover, our methods are easy to implement and don't need to augment compilers or even modify the core codes of parallel simulators. © 2010 IEEE.

A Cloud may be seen as a type of flexible computing infrastructure consisting of many compute nodes, where resizable computing capacities can be provided to different customers. To fully harness the power of the Cloud, efficient data management is needed to handle huge volumes of data and support a large number of concurrent end users. To achieve that, a scalable and high-throughput indexing scheme is generally required. Such an indexing scheme must support parallel search to improve scalability. In this paper, we present a bitmap based indexing scheme for efficient data processing in the Cloud. Our approach can be summarized as follows. First, we build a local bitmap index for each compute node which only indexes data residing on the node. Second, we organize the compute nodes as a structured overlay and each node maintains a portion of the global index for the whole different data. The global index is also bitmap index to indicate the node each data resides in. Third, all bitmaps are compressed by adopting run-length coding for reducing storage requirement. We conduct extensive experiments on a LAN, and the results demonstrate that our indexing scheme is dynamic, efficient and scalable. © 2011 IEEE.

Detecting concurrency bugs is becoming increasingly important. Many pattern-based concurrency bug detectors focus on the specific types of interleavings that are correlated to concurrency bugs. To detect multiple types of concurrency bugs, general detectors focus on multiple types of interleaving patterns, including data race pattern, atomicity violation pattern, and atomic-set violation pattern. Unfortunately, they suffer from redundant analysis due to repeated interleavings, which may affect the efficiency of concurrency bug detection. Hence, we propose an approach to identify the repeated interleavings. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first approach that can prune repeated interleavings to improve the efficiency of concurrency bug detection. We apply our approach to existing general detectors (PECAN and Maple) to avoid analyzing repeated interleavings. We evaluated the general detectors with and without our approach, respectively. The experimental results show that the bug detection results are not affected. With our approach, the bug detection time of PECAN and Maple are reduced by 40.0% and 44.4%, respectively. Additionally, our approach does not affect the overhead of bug detection, and consumes only a little memory. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

As an infrastructure for data distribution, overlay networks have to feature efficient routing and adequate robustness to achieve fast and accurate data distribution in the environment with node churn. Considering that the existing overlay networks mostly focus on single optimization objective and fail to ensure routing efficiency and robustness simultaneously, a hybrid overlay network for content-based data distribution - Anadem is proposed in this paper. Anadem achieves a better compromise between routing efficiency and robustness by combining the intercluster multiple structured topologies with the intra-cluster unstructured topologies. Anadem also provides mechanisms for dynamic concurrent cluster creation, cluster departure and load balance to make data distribution more adaptive to the dynamic network environment. Experimental results reveal that compared with existing overlay networks, Anadem can support fast and accurate content-based data distribution even when large amount of nodes fail in the system. © 2009 IEEE.

We investigate the effect of self and cross-coupling capacitance on stability diagram in a metallic double-dot device by theory and method. In linear transport regime, cross-coupling capacitances affect the dimension of the honeycomb cell and the distance of two triple points, while self capacitances only slightly broaden the boundary of the cell and make two triple point closer. In nonlinear transport regime, cross-coupling capacitances stretch the current region and charge region in the mid-line direction, while self capacitances extend the region of current regions but not change the shape of the stability cells. Cross-coupling capacitances make stronger impact on the dimensions of stability diagram than self capacitance. But the self-capacitance must be included in the current calculation if its value can not be neglected with respect to the device parameters. © 2010 IEEE.

Fault recovery based on parallel recomputing in transactional memory system

This paper addresses the issue of fault recovery in transactional memory, and proposes a method of fault recovery based on parallel recomputing in transactional memory system. This method utilizes the data-versioning mechanism of transactional memory system to avoid the extra cost of state saving, rolls back a single transaction to avoid wasting the computing time of the fault-free transactions, and adopts the parallel recomputing method to reduce the cost of fault recovery. This paper applies this method to OpenTM programs, and proposes the implementation method of parallel recomputing in OpenTM. At last, this paper tests the performance of this method through a test program. The experimental results show that, compared with the fault recovery method of rolling back a single transaction, the parallel recomputing method in transactional memory system can execute the fault recovery quickly and accurately and the method has a well scalability. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

In this paper, we propose an example-based decoder for a statistical machine translation (SMT) system, which is used for spoken language machine translation. In this way, it will help to solve the re-ordering problem and other problems for spoken language MT, such as lots of omissions, idioms etc. Through experiments, we show that this approach obtains improvements over the baseline on a Chinese-English spoken language translation task. © IJCNLP 2008.
