This paper proposes a comprehensive solution to combat the growing threat of Deepfake technology, employing Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Blockchain. CNNs analyze video frames for anomalies indicative of Deepfake manipulation, while Blockchain ensures content integrity through timestamping and IPFS hashes. Leveraging transfer learning with EfficientNet-B1 architecture and dropout layers to prevent overfitting, the CNN model attains a 98.53% accuracy on testing data. Smart contracts are utilized to store social media content and AI verification results. The methodology integrates private storage on social media platforms, AI-based CNN verification, Blockchain timestamping, smart contract verification, and continuous improvement. By synergizing AI and Blockchain technologies, our approach aims to bolster defenses against deceptive content proliferation, enhancing the reliability of online media ecosystems. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Historically, the health insurance domain has adhered to uniform premium pricing structures, often sidelining the distinct health nuances of each policyholder. Such broad-brush approaches can result in misaligned premiums, not truly reflective of individual health dynamics. Venturing into uncharted territories, this study proposes an innovative fusion of Federated Machine Learning (FML) and BlockChain methodologies to recalibrate health insurance pricing. FML, a cutting-edge evolution in the machine learning sphere, emphasizes decentralized data processing. By harnessing FML, timely insights can be gathered that mirror an individual’s health trajectory. This continuous insight generation facilitates agile adjustments to insurance premiums, ensuring they resonate with real-time health conditions. BlockChain’s decentralized ledger system acts as the bedrock of this model. Each premium modification, steered by FML-derived insights, is indelibly etched onto the BlockChain. distributed lock services are extensively utilized in distributed systems to serialize concurrent accesses to shared resources. The need for fast and scalable lock services has become more pronounced with decreasing task execution times and expanding dataset scales. However, traditional lock managers, reliant on server CPUs to handle lock requests, experience significant queuing delays in lock grant latency. Advanced network hardware (e.g. programmable switches) presents an avenue to manage locks without queuing delays due to their high packet processing power. Nevertheless, their constrained memory capacity restricts the manageable lock scale, thereby limiting their effect in large-scale *** paper presents FISSLOCK, a fast and scalable distributed lock service that exploits the programmable switch to improve (tail) latency and peak throughput for millions of locks. The key idea behind FISSLOCK is the concept of lock fission, which decouples lock management into grant decision and participant maintenance. FISSLOCK leverages the programmable switch to decide lock grants synchronously and relies on servers to maintain participants (i.e., holders and waiters) asynchronously. By using the programmable switch for routing, FISSLOCK enables on-demand fine-grained lock migration, thereby reducing the lock grant and release delays. FISSLOCK carefully designs and implements grant decision procedure on the programmable switch, supporting over one million locks. Evaluation using various benchmarks and a real-world application shows the efficiency of FISSLOCK. Compared to the state-of-the-art switch-based approach (NetLock), FISSLOCK cuts up to 79.1% (from 43.0%) of median lock grant time in the microbenchmark and improves transaction throughput for TATP and TPC-C by 1.76× and 2.28×, respectively.

Transaction processing systems are the crux for modern data-center applications, yet current multi-node systems are slow due to network overheads. This paper advocates for Compute Express Link (CXL) as a network alternative, which enables low-latency and cache-coherent shared memory accesses. However, directly adopting standard CXL primitives leads to performance degradation due to the high cost of maintaining cross-node cache coherence. To address the CXL challenges, this paper introduces CTXNL, a software-hardware co-designed system that implements a novel hybrid coherence primitive tailored to the loosely coherent nature of transactional data. The core innovation of CTXNL is empowering transaction system developers with the ability to selectively achieve data coherence. Our evaluations on OLTP workloads demonstrate that CTXNL enhances performance, outperforming current network-based systems and achieves up to 2.08x greater throughput than vanilla CXL memory sharing architectures across universal transaction processing policies. © 2025 ACM.

P-GRADE: A grid programming environment

P-GRADE provides a high-level graphical environment to develop parallel applications transparently both for parallel systems and the Grid. P-GRADE supports the interactive execution of parallel programs as well as the creation of a Condor, Condor-G or Globus job to execute parallel programs in the Grid. In P-GRADE, the user can generate either PVM or MPI code according to the underlying Grid where the parallel application should be executed. PVM applications generated by P-GRADE can migrate between different Grid sites and as a result P-GRADE guarantees reliable, fault-tolerant parallel program execution in the Grid. The GRM/PROVE performance monitoring and visualisation toolset has been extended towards the Grid and connected to a general Grid monitor (Mercury) developed in the EU Gridlab project. Using the Mercury/GRM/PROVE Grid application monitoring infrastructure any parallel application launched by P-GRADE can be remotely monitored and analysed at run time even if the application migrates among Grid sites. P-GRADE supports workflow definition and coordinated multi-job execution for the Grid. Such workflow management can provide parallel execution at both inter-job and intra-job level. Automatic checkpoint mechanism for parallel programs supports the migration of parallel jobs inside the workflow providing a fault-tolerant workflow execution mechanism. Using agent-based simulation (ABS) to analyze complex adaptive systems gains growing popularity over the past decades. One of the fundamental issues in ABS is to increase the execution speed. In this paper, we identify two common modules that widely exist in ABS applications, namely, the agent management module and the agent interaction module. Improving the efficiency of these two common modules can significantly speed up the ABS execution in general. GPU architecture, programming model, and memory hierarchy are studied. Effective strategies on GPU are proposed when we design the two modules. The first contribution of this work is to propose an AgentPool data structure to handle agent creation and deletion on GPU. The second contribution is an efficient agent interaction module, which is designed by carefully utilizing the GPU memory hierarchy. To demonstrate effectiveness and generality, the proposed strategies are applied to a range of ABS applications, including game-of-life, flocking boids, prey-and-predator, and the social force-based crowd simulation. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed strategies achieve better performance than the commonly used CPU and GPU ABS framework, namely, Mason and FLAME, for ABS applications using continuous space. Aero engine blade structure is prone to severe fretting wear under centrifugal forces and vibration loads, resulting in greatly reduced engine service life, which is a typical fretting damage problem. In this paper, without Absorbing layer Nanosecond Laser Shock Peening (wAN-LSP) and without Absorbing layer Nanosecond superimposed Femtosecond hybrid Laser Shock Peening (NF-LSP) are utilized to strengthen the surface of GH4169 dovetail joint specimens, which is a common material for engine blades, to explore its strengthening mechanism and fretting wear evolution law. The findings indicate that the surface roughness of the wAN-LSP specimen rises from 0.28 μm to 1.16 μm. The thermal effects of wAN-LSP lead to the formation of a molten layer roughly 10.97 μm thick on the surface, accompanied by numerous pits, ablation holes, and micro-cracks. In contrast, NF-LSP treatment effectively eliminates the surface oxidation defects made by the thermal effects of wAN-LSP, leading to a slight decrease in surface roughness. Both wAN-LSP and NF-LSP treatments enhance the surface hardness of the specimens, creating a plastic deformation layer roughly 400 μm deep, but the near surface hardness of NF-LSP treated specimen is further improved compared to that of the wAN-LSP specimen. The wear mechanism observed in the GH4169 dovetail joint specimens following wAN-LSP and NF-LSP treatment are identified as abrasive wear and oxidation wear. Initially, as the number of cycles raises, the wear volume of GH4169 specimen treated with wAN-LSP is higher than that of untreated specimen, but subsequently, it becomes lesser than that of the untreated specimen. This phenomenon results from the interplay between the molten layer and hardened layer. In the initial stage of wear, despite the surface strengthening of the wAN-LSP specimen, the presence of molten layer significantly diminishes the fretting wear resistance of the material.
