Heuristic algorithms have been developed to find approximate solutions for high-utility itemset mining (HUIM) problems that compensate for the performance bottlenecks of exact algorithms. However, heuristic algorithms still face the problem of long runtime and insufficient mining quality, especially for large transaction datasets with thousands to tens of thousands of items and up to millions of transactions. To solve these problems, a novel GPU-based efficient parallel heuristic algorithm for HUIM (PHA-HUIM) is proposed in this paper. The iterative process of PHA-HUIM consists of three main steps: the search strategy, fitness evaluation, and ring topology communication. The search strategy and ring topology communication are designed to run in constant time on GPU. The parallelism of fitness evolution helps to substantially accelerate the algorithm. To improve the mining quality, a multi-start strategy with an unbalanced allocation strategy is employed in the search process. Ring topology communication is adopted to maintain population diversity. A load balancing strategy is introduced to reduce the thread divergence to improve the parallel efficiency. The experimental results on nine large datasets show that PHA-HUIM outperforms state-of-the-art HUIM algorithms in terms of speedup performance, runtime, and mining quality. © 2024 IEEE.

science gateways have been widely utilized by a large number of user communities to simplify access to complex distributed computing infrastructures. While science gateways are still becoming increasingly popular and the number of user communities is growing, the fast and efficient creation of new science gateways and the flexibility to deploy these gateways on-demand on heterogeneous computational resources, remain a challenge. Additionally, the increase in the number of users, especially with very different backgrounds, requires intuitive embedded e-learning tools that support all stakeholders to find related learning material and to guide the learning process. This paper introduces a novel science gateway framework that addresses these challenges. The framework supports the creation, publication, selection, and deployment of cloud-based reference architectures that can be automatically instantiated and executed even by nontechnical users. The framework also incorporates a knowledge repository exchange and learning module that provides embedded e-learning support. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed solution, two scientific case studies are presented based on the requirements of the plasmasphere, ionosphere, and thermosphere research communities. © 2022 The Authors. Instant delivery has become a fundamental service in people's daily lives. Different from the traditional express service, the instant delivery has a strict shipping time constraint after being ordered. However, the labor shortage makes it challenging to realize efficient instant delivery. To tackle the problem, researchers have studied to introduce vehicles (i.e., taxis) or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs or drones) into instant delivery tasks. Unfortunately, the delivery detour of taxis and the limited battery of UAVs make it hard to meet the rapidly increasing instant delivery demands. Under this circumstance, this paper proposes an air-ground cooperative instant delivery paradigm to maximize the delivery performance and meanwhile minimize the negative effects on the taxi passengers. Specifically, a data-driven delivery potential-demands-aware cooperative strategy is designed to improve the overall delivery performance of both UAVs and taxis as well as the taxi passengers' experience. The experimental results show that the proposed method improves the delivery number by 30.1% and 114.5% compared to the taxi-based and UAV-based instant delivery respectively, and shortens the delivery time by 35.7% compared to the taxi-based instant delivery. © 2024 IEEE.

Ontology matching (OM) is critical for knowledge integration and system interoperability on the semantic web, tasked with identifying semantically related entities across different ontologies. Despite its importance, the complexity of terminology semantics and the large number of potential matches present significant challenges. Existing methods often struggle to balance between accurately capturing the multifaceted nature of semantic relationships and computational efficiency. This work introduces a novel approach, a compact multitasking multichromosome genetic algorithm for Heuristic selection (HS) in OM, designed to navigate the nuanced hierarchical structure of ontologies and diverse entity mapping preferences. Our method combines compact genetic algorithms with multichromosome optimization for entity sequencing and assigning HS, alongside an adaptive knowledge transfer mechanism to finely balance exploration and exploitation efforts. Evaluated on the ontology alignment evaluation initiative's benchmark, our algorithm demonstrates superior ability to produce high-quality ontology alignments efficiently, surpassing comparative methods in both effectiveness and efficiency. These findings underscore the potential of advanced genetic algorithms in enhancing OM processes, offering significant contributions to the broader AI field by improving the interoperability and knowledge integration capabilities of semantic web technologies. © 2024 IEEE.

Hybrid-MELAu: A Hybrid Mixing Engineered Linguistic Features Framework Based on Autoencoder for Social Bot Detection

Social bots are defined as computer algorithms that generate massive amounts of obnoxious or meaningful information. Most bot detection methods leverage multitudinous characteristics, from network features, temporal dynamics features, activities features, and sentiment features. However, there has been fairly lower work exploring lexicon measurement and linguistic indicators to detect bots. The main purpose of this research is to recognize the social bots through their writing style. Thus, we carried out an exploratory study on the effectiveness of only a set of linguistic features (17 features) exploitable for bot detection, without the need to resort to other types of features. And we develop a novel framework in a hybrid fashion of Mixing Engineered Linguistic features based on Autoencoders (Hybrid-MELAu). The semi-supervised Hybrid-MELAu framework is composed of two essential constituents: the features learner and the predictors. We establish the features learner innovated on two powerful structures: a) the first is a Deep dense Autoencoder fed by the Lexical and the Syntactic content (DALS) that represents the high order lexical and syntactic features in latent space, b) the second one is a Glove-BiLSTM autoencoder, which sculpts the semantic features;subsequently, we generate elite elements from the pre-trained encoder part from each latent space with transfer learning. We consider a sample of 1 Million from Cresci datasets to conduct our linguistic analysis comparison between the writing style of humans and bots. With this dataset, we observe that the bot's textual lexical diversity median is greater than the human one and the syntactic analysis based on speech-tagging shows a creative behavior in human writing style. Finally, we test the model's robustness on several public dataset (celebrity, pronbots-2019, and political bots). The proposed framework achieves a good accuracy of 92.22%. Today, most database-backed web applications depend on the database to handle deadlocks. At runtime, the database monitors the progress of transaction execution to detect deadlocks and abort affected transactions. However, this common detect-and-recover strategy is costly to performance as aborted transactions waste CPU *** avoid deadlock-induced performance degradation, developers aim to reorganize the application code to remove deadlocks. Unfortunately, doing so is difficult for web applications. Not only do their implementations include hundreds of thousands of LoCs, but they also use third-party object-relational mapping (ORM) frameworks which hide database access details. Consequently, it is hard for developers to accurately diagnose *** propose WeSEER, a deadlock diagnosis tool for web applications. To overcome the opacity of ORMs, WeSEER performs concolic execution on unit tests to extract a web application’s transactions as a sequence of template statements with symbolic inputs as well as path conditions that enable the sequence. WeSEER then analyzes the extracted transactions based on fine-grained lock modeling to identify potential deadlocks and report the code locations that cause them. We implement WeSEER for Java-based (OpenJDK) web applications, and use it to analyze two popular open-source e-commerce applications, Broadleaf and Shopizer. WeSEER has successfully identified 18 potential deadlocks in Broadleaf and Shopizer. Eliminating these identified deadlocks can result in up to 39.5× and 4.5× throughput improvement for Broadleaf and Shopizer, respectively.

We consider the problem of synthetically generating data that can closely resemble human decisions made in the context of an interactive human-AI system like a computer game. We propose a novel algorithm that can generate synthetic, human-like, decision making data while starting from a very small set of decision making data collected from humans. Our proposed algorithm integrates the concept of reward shaping with an imitation learning algorithm to generate the synthetic data. We have validated our synthetic data generation technique by using the synthetically generated data as a surrogate for human interaction data to solve three sequential decision making tasks of increasing complexity within a small computer game-like setup. Different empirical and statistical analyses of our results show that the synthetically generated data can substitute the human data and perform the game-playing tasks almost indistinguishably, with very low divergence, from a human performing the same tasks. © 2023 SPIE.

Solving sparse linear systems lies at the core of numerous computational applications. Consequently, understanding the performance of recently proposed alternatives to the established IEEE 754 floating-point numbers, such as bfloat16 and the tapered-precision posit and takum machine number formats, is of significant interest. This paper examines these formats in the context of widely used solvers, namely LU, QR, and GMRES, with incomplete LU preconditioning and mixed precision iterative refinement (MPIR). This contrasts with the prevailing emphasis on designing specialized algorithms tailored to new arithmetic formats. This paper presents an extensive and unprecedented evaluation based on the SuiteSparse Matrix Collection—a dataset of real-world matrices with diverse sizes and condition numbers. A key contribution is the faithful reproduction of SuiteSparse’s UMFPACK multifrontal LU factorization and SPQR multifrontal QR factorization for machine number formats beyond single and double-precision IEEE 754. Tapered-precision posit and takum formats show better accuracy in direct solvers and reduced iteration counts in indirect solvers. Takum arithmetic, in particular, exhibits exceptional stability, even at low precision. © 2024, CC BY.
