The conventional Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) algorithm is a state-of-the-art trust-region optimization method for solving bundle adjustment problems in the Structure-from-Motion community, which not only takes advantage of the fast convergence of the Gauss-Newton method, but also the stability of the gradient descent method when approaching optimal solutions. However, the damping ratio of LM is simply provided by trial-and-error, which causes slow convergence rate for large-scale problems. This paper proposes the Yamashita-Fukushima LM (YFLM) algorithm to reduce the time complexity for global bundle adjustment, where the damping factor is determined by Yamashita and Fukushima’s method. YFLM dynamically calculates a more reasonable and optimal damping ratio according to the newest reprojection error. The experimental results show that the YFLM algorithm outperforms the conventional LM algorithm for most public bundle adjustment datasets. Besides this, the convergence of the YFLM algorithm is also evaluated with different σ∈(0,2]. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

B-mode ultrasound tongue imaging is a non-invasive and real-time method for visualizing vocal tract deformation. However, accurately extracting the tongue's surface contour remains a significant challenge due to the low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and prevalent speckle noise in ultrasound images. Traditional supervised learning models often require large labeled datasets, which are labor-intensive to produce and susceptible to noise interference. To address these limitations, we present a novel Counterfactual Ultrasound Anti-Interference Self-Supervised Network (CUAI-SSN), which integrates self-supervised learning (SSL) with counterfactual data augmentation, progressively disentangles confounding factors, ensuring that the model generalizes well across varied ultrasound conditions. Our approach leverages causal reasoning to decouple noise from relevant features, enabling the model to learn robust representations that focus on essential tongue structures. By generating counterfactual image-label pairs, our method introduces alternative, noise-independent scenarios that enhance model training. Furthermore, we introduce attention mechanisms to enhance the network's ability to capture fine-grained details even in noisy conditions. Extensive experiments on real ultrasound tongue images demonstrate that CUAI-SSN outperforms existing methods, setting a new benchmark for automated contour extraction in ultrasound tongue imaging. This work demonstrates four grid service use cases using a service-oriented DER Management System within an Energy Grid of Things network. Imposed by a set of rules referred to as the Energy Service Interface, the DER Management System uses IEEE 2030.5 as its primary communication protocol. To simulate the efforts of Grid Operators, Grid Service Providers, and consumers to provide grid services, a co-simulation environment that leverages the GridAPPS-D simulation platform was developed. The results show that a service-oriented DER Management System provides a means of achieving reliable and impactful grid services while protecting customers' privacy and ensuring their agency over their distributed Energy Resources.

Aero engine blade structure is prone to severe fretting wear under centrifugal forces and vibration loads, resulting in greatly reduced engine service life, which is a typical fretting damage problem. In this paper, without Absorbing layer Nanosecond Laser Shock Peening (wAN-LSP) and without Absorbing layer Nanosecond superimposed Femtosecond hybrid Laser Shock Peening (NF-LSP) are utilized to strengthen the surface of GH4169 dovetail joint specimens, which is a common material for engine blades, to explore its strengthening mechanism and fretting wear evolution law. The findings indicate that the surface roughness of the wAN-LSP specimen rises from 0.28 μm to 1.16 μm. The thermal effects of wAN-LSP lead to the formation of a molten layer roughly 10.97 μm thick on the surface, accompanied by numerous pits, ablation holes, and micro-cracks. In contrast, NF-LSP treatment effectively eliminates the surface oxidation defects made by the thermal effects of wAN-LSP, leading to a slight decrease in surface roughness. Both wAN-LSP and NF-LSP treatments enhance the surface hardness of the specimens, creating a plastic deformation layer roughly 400 μm deep, but the near surface hardness of NF-LSP treated specimen is further improved compared to that of the wAN-LSP specimen. The wear mechanism observed in the GH4169 dovetail joint specimens following wAN-LSP and NF-LSP treatment are identified as abrasive wear and oxidation wear. Initially, as the number of cycles raises, the wear volume of GH4169 specimen treated with wAN-LSP is higher than that of untreated specimen, but subsequently, it becomes lesser than that of the untreated specimen. This phenomenon results from the interplay between the molten layer and hardened layer. In the initial stage of wear, despite the surface strengthening of the wAN-LSP specimen, the presence of molten layer significantly diminishes the fretting wear resistance of the material. The popularity of asynchronous data exchange patterns has recently increased, as evidenced by 23% of the communication between microservices in an Alibaba trace analysis. Such workloads necessitate methods for reducing dataflow processing and completion time by forecasting the future requirements of their microservices and (re-)scheduling them. Therefore, we investigate a prediction-based scheduling method of asynchronous dataflow processing applications by considering the stochastic changes due to dynamic user requirements. We present a microservice scaling and scheduling method named PreMatch combining a machine learning (ML) prediction strategy based on gradient boosting with ranking and game theory matching scheduling principles. Firstly, PreMatch predicts the number of microservice replicas, and then, the ranking method orders the microservice replicas and devices based on microservice and transmission times. Thereafter, the PreMatch schedules microservice replicas requiring dataflow processing on computing devices. Experimental analysis of the PreMatch method shows lower completion times on average 13% compared to a related prediction-based scheduling method.

Using the causal domain to specify and verify distributed programs

A system for specification and proof of distributed programs is presented. The method is based directly on the partial order of local states (poset) and avoids the notions of time and simultaneity. Programs are specified by documenting the relationship between local states which are adjacent to each other in the poset. Program properties are defined by stating properties of the poset. Many program properties can be expressed succinctly and elegantly using this method because poset properties inherently account for varying processor execution speeds. The system utilizes a proof technique which uses induction on the complement of the causally precedes relation and is shown to be useful in proving poset properties. We demonstrate the system on three example algorithms: vector clocks, mutual exclusion, and direct dependency clocks.

We show that the problem of predicate detection in distributed systems is NP-complete. We introduce a class of predicates, linear predicates, such that for any linear predicate B there exists an efficient detection of the least cut satisfying B. The dual of linearity is post-linearity. These properties generalize several known properties of distributed systems, such as the set of consistent cuts forms a lattice, and the WCP and GCP predicate detection results given in earlier work. We define a more general class of predicates, semi-linear predicates, for which efficient algorithms are known to detect whether a predicate has occurred during an execution of a distributed program. However, these methods may not identify the least such cut. Any stable predicate is an example of a semi-linear predicate. In addition, we show that certain unstable predicates can also be semi-linear, such as mutual exclusion violation. Finally, we show application of max-flow to the predicate detection problem. This result solves a previously open problem in predicate detection, establishing the existence of an efficient algorithm to detect predicates of the form X1 + x2… +xn i are variables on different processes, k is some constant, and n is larger than 2. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 1995.

Communication and coordination between OSS developers who do not work physically in the same location have always been the challenging *** pull-based development model,as the state-of-art collaborative development mechanism,provides high openness and transparency to improve the visibility of contributors'***,duplicate contributions may still be submitted by more than one contributors to solve the same problem due to the parallel and uncoordinated nature of this *** not detected in time,duplicate pull-requests can cause contributors and reviewers to waste time and energy on redundant *** this paper,we propose an approach combining textual and change similarities to automatically detect duplicate contributions in pull-based model at submission *** a new-arriving contribution,we first compute textual similarity and change similarity between it and other existing *** then our method returns a list of candidate duplicate contributions that are most similar with the new contribution in terms of the combined textual and change *** evaluation shows that 83.4%of the duplicates can be found in average when we use the combined textual and change similarity compared to 54.8%using only textual similarity and 78.2%using only change similarity.
