Automatic diagnosis for fetal echocardiography plays an important part in diagnostic aid in the discrimination of congenital heart disease (CHD). Instead of traditional methods analyzing 2D cardiac echo video that need to find the standard view for discrimination, in this paper, we proposed a new system for automatic discrimination of CHD applying 4D original echocardiogram, which avoids the challenging work of searching standard views. We extracted the features of 3D static structure and 3D motion via 3D SIFT and 3D Histogram of Optical Flow (HOF) from the original 4D (3D+T) echocardiogram data, respectively. Bag of Words (BoW) method was employed to construct the quantized feature. Both static and motion features were fused to form the final image representation. One-Class SVM classifier was utilized to discriminate CHD due to the lack of CHD data and the significant difference in all the CHD cases. Experiments on the real data demonstrate the improved discrimination accuracy due to the fused feature.

There are growing concerns on the potential side effect of radiation, which could be decreased by lowering the tube current. However, this manner will lead to a degraded image since X-ray imaging is a quantum accumulation process. Great efforts have been devoted to alleviate this problem. In this paper, a simple Wiener filter was employed to denoise projection data in detector domain. And then an enhancement filter was exploited to strengthen small structures. As a consequence, this combination leaded to a reconstruction with good trade-off between noise and resolution. For the purpose of comparison, block-matching and 3D/4D denoising algorithm (BM3D/BM4D) were also adopted to denoise the projections. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed algorithm could deliver a reconstruction with comparable quality as BM4D algorithm while better than that of BM3D denoising algorithm. Note that the propose algorithm has a much higher computation efficiency than BM3D/BM4D, and hence provides an insight into the clinical utility where real time is of high importance. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

Deep learning scheme has received significant attention during these years, particularly as a way of building hierarchical representations from unlabeled data for a variety of signal and information processing tasks. However, deep neural networks suffer from slow learning speed since most used training algorithms are based on variations of the gradient descent algorithms which require iterative optimization and thus are time-consuming. In addition, a series of control parameters need to be specified empirically which lacks of the theoretical guidance, and current learning algorithms for deep networks are not very suitable to incremental learning scenario. To address these issues, we propose a fast learning scheme in this paper. The basic idea of our approach is to pre-train basic units such as auto-encoders of the deep architecture in an analytical way without any iterative optimization procedure. This scheme is also extended to an incremental learning version. The experimental result shows the superiority of our approach over the state-of-the-art gradient descent based algorithms. To demonstrate the impact of our algorithm on complicated real world applications, we give an example of its performance in astronomical spectra pattern recognition.

The continuous development and extensive use of CT in medical practice has raised a public concern over the associated radiation dose to the patient. Reducing the radiation dose may lead to increased noise and artifacts, which can adversely affect the radiologists judgement and confidence. Hence, advanced image reconstruction from low-dose CT data is needed to improve the diagnostic performance, which is a challenging problem due to its ill-posed nature. Over the past years, various low-dose CT methods have produced impressive results. However, most of the algorithms developed for this application, including the recently popularized deep learning techniques, aim for minimizing the mean-squared-error (MSE) between a denoised CT image and the ground truth under generic penalties. Although the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) is improved, MSE-or weighted-MSE-based methods can compromise the visibility of important structural details after aggressive denoising. This paper introduces a new CT image denoising method based on the generative adversarial network (GAN) with Wasserstein distance and perceptual similarity. The Wasserstein distance is a key concept of the optimal transport theory, and promises to improve the performance of GAN. The perceptual loss suppresses noise by comparing the perceptual features of a denoised output against those of the ground truth in an established feature space, while the GAN focuses more on migrating the data noise distribution from strong to weak statistically. Therefore, our proposed method transfers our knowledge of visual perception to the image denoising task and is capable of not only reducing the image noise level but also trying to keep the critical information at the same time. This paper presents an approach to derive critical points of a shape, the basis of a Reeb graph, using a combination of a medial axis skeleton and features along this skeleton. A Reeb graph captures the topology of a shape. The nodes in the graph represent critical points (positions of change in the topology), while edges represent topological persistence. We present an approach to compute such critical points using Local Binary patterns. For one pixel the Local Binary pattern feature vector is derived comparing this pixel to its neighbouring pixels in an environment of a certain radius. We start with an initial segmentation and a medial axis representation. Along this axis critical points are computed using Local Binary patterns with the radius, defining the neighbouring pixels, set a bit larger than the radius according to the medial axis transformation. Critical points obtained in this way form the node set in a Reeb graph, edges are given through the connectivity of the skeleton. This approach aims at improving the representation of flawed segmented data. In the same way segmentation artefacts, as for example single pixels representing noise, may be corrected based on this analysis. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

Gene over-expression or under-expression is closely associated with human diseases, which contributes to phenotypic variations and diversity. To our best knowledge, there is no single open specific resource available to provide the association information between gene over- or under-expression and various diseases. In this study, we presented a comprehensive disease-associated over- and under-expressed gene database （OUGene） based on our proposed text mining pipeline and several open curated databases. It contains total 41,269 unique associa- tions between 7,238 over- or under-expressed genes and 1,480 diseases, which are supported by 81,974 evidence sentences from 56,442 articles. The OUGene is compre- hensive and covers most important therapeutic areas. Meanwhile a new scoring system is designed to rank the associations based on benchmarking against hand-curated data. OUGene provides an easy-of-use web interface for researchers to analyze these data and visualize the associ- ated networks, which can give insights to the complex relationships between over- and under-expressed genes and diseases at a system level. In this paper,we discuss consensus problems for antagonistic networks with double integrator *** cases are analyzed:(1) undirected graphs with fixed topology on antagonistic networks;(2) undirected graphs with fixed topology and time-delay on antagonistic *** both cases,distributed consensus protocols are proposed,with sufficient and necessary conditions *** is proved that the largest tolerable time-delay is only related to the largest eigenvalue of the graph ***,simulations are provided to demonstrate the obtained theoretical results.

In this paper, we propose a new guided depth upsampling method denoted as Robust Weighted Least Squares (RWLS). Our work is inspired by the connection between the Weighted Least Squares (WLS) and the Auto Regressive (AR) model. By adopting a new robust penalty function to model the smoothness of the proposed model, we show that the proposed method performs much better in preserving sharp depth discontinuities than previous work. Through both mathematical analysis and experimental results, we show that our method has promising performance on handling the inconsistency between the guidance image and the depth map in both preserving sharp depth discontinuities and suppressing the texture copy artifacts.
