This paper presents a new reconstruction algorithm of iris image with great depth of field. First, the focus issue in image capture process is proposed, and characteristic of multi-focus iris image is discussed, which proves the feasibility of reconstruction of iris image with great depth of field based on multi-focus fusion. The proposed method uses antisymmetric biorthogonal wavelet to detect the iris texture edge, and according to the density of edge pixels, chooses the iris sub-regions of high articulation for image fusion. Finally, experimental data set compared with traditional non-fusion method is presented, and the proposed method shows its advantages in performance and practical value in registration process.

DNA microarray technique has produced large amount of gene expression data. To analyze these data, many excellent machine learning techniques have been proposed in recent related work. In this paper, we try to perform the clustering of microarray data by combining the recently proposed locality preserving projection (LPP) method with PCA, i.e. PCA-LPP. The comparison between PCA and PCA-LPP is performed based on two clustering algorithms, K-means and agglomerative hierarchical clustering. As we already known, clustering with the components extracted by PCA instead of the original variables does improve cluster quality. Moreover, our empirical study shows that by using LPP to perform further process the dimensions of components extracted by PCA can be further reduced and the quality of the clusters can be improved greatly meanwhile. Particularly, the first few components obtained by PCA-LPP capture more information of the cluster structure than those of PCA.

This paper presents a new feature extraction method for iris recognition. Since two dimensional complex wavelet transform (2D-CWT) does not only keep wavelet transformpsilas properties of multiresolution decomposition analysis and perfect reconstruction, but also adds its new merits: approximate shift invariance, good directional selectivity for 2-D image, and limited redundancy, which are useful for iris feature extraction. So, a set of high frequency 2D-CWT coefficients are selected as features for iris recognition. The phase information of the coefficients is used for feature encoding and Hamming distance is adopted for classification. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can get good recognition rate.

In order to preserve our cultural heritage and for automated document processing libraries and national archives have started digitizing historical documents. In the case of degraded manuscripts (e.g. by mold, humidity, bad storage conditions) the text or parts of it can disappear. The remaining parts of the text can be segmented and the ruling can be extrapolated with the a priori knowledge. Since the ruling defines the position of the text within a page, it can be used for layout analysis and as a basis for the enhancement of the readability. Furthermore, information about the scribe (hand) of the manuscript, its spatiotemporal origin can be gained by analyzing the ruling. This paper presents an algorithm for ruling estimation of Glagolitic texts based on text line extraction and is suitable for degraded manuscripts by extrapolating the baselines with the a priori knowledge of the ruling. The algorithm was tested on 30 pages of the Missale Sinaiticum and the evaluation was based on visual criteria.

However, during the optimization procedure, because of the influence of interpolation and the changes of overlapping areas in the images, the object function of the mutual information method may converge at local maximums so that wrong transformation parameters are generated as a result. In this paper, an improved simulated annealing–simplex method is proposed to solve this problem. Experiment results show that registration precision can reach to the sub-pixel level.

The imaging laser radar was an ideal imaging sensor to get the high precision 3D terrain for Terrain aided navigation (TAN). For the application, decreasing the mismatching rate was very important. In this paper, the measurement model of imaging laser radar was introduced and a novel 3D terrain matching algorithm with low mismatching rate was presented. According to the theory of function orthogonal decomposition, a terrain orthogonal decomposition feature vector (TODFV), composed of the orthogonal decomposition coefficients of the digital elevation map (DEM), was employed to represent the features of the terrain. Then TODFV was used to generate an interim matching position vector (IMPV). The IMPV were utilized to do real-time confidence analysis to improve the matching confidence, and were fused to give the final matching at the last. The algorithm could effectively decrease the mismatching rate of terrain matching algorithm, and improved the reliability of TAN. Experiments showed that the algorithm was effective and robust.

The imaging laser radar is fine measure equipment for TAN with the ability to get the high precision 3D terrain. A 3D terrain matching processor was needed to be designed for the specifical application. In this paper, base on the specialty of the imaging laser radar, the3D terrain matching processor was designed, with scheme of DSP+FPGA calculating engine, multi-level memory system, flexible parallel architecture, and FPGA-embedded accelerators. A parallel correlating accelerator base on 2D modular systolic array and other structures were designed to improve the system performance in FPGA. In the end, with strictly abiding the rules of high-speed circuit designing, the detail physical implement was drawn out. The experiments showed that the system could work well in the harsh military environment with high real-time, high reliability, and flexible architecture.

This paper deals with the enhancement of the readability in historic texts written on parchment. Due to mold, air, humidity, water, etc. parchment and text are partially damaged and consequently hard to read. In order to enhance the readability of the text, the manuscript pages are imaged in different spectral bands ranging from 360 to 1000 nm. The readability enhancement is based on a spectral and spatial analysis of the multivariate image data by multivariate spatial correlation. The main advantage of the method is that especially the text regions are enhanced which is provided by generating a mask image. This mask is based on the automatic reconstruction of the ruling scheme of the text pages. The method is tested on two medieval Slavonic manuscripts written on parchment.

In this work, multi-view ear recognition problems are examined in detail. A new multi-view ear recognition approach based on B-Spline pose manifold construction in discriminative projection space which is formed by null kernel discriminant analysis (NKDA) feature extraction is presented. Many experiments and comparisons are provided to show the effectiveness of our multi-view ear recognition approach.
