In clinical practice, digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is a powerful technique for the visualization of blood vessels in the human body. Blood vessel segmentation is a main problem for 3D vascular reconstruction. In this paper, we propose a new adaptive thresholding method for the segmentation of DSA images. Each pixel of the DSA images is declared to be a vessel/background point with regard to a threshold and a few local characteristic limits depending on some information contained in the pixel neighborhood window. The size of the neighborhood window is set according to a priori knowledge of the diameter of vessels to make sure that each window contains the background definitely. Some experiments on cerebral DSA images are given, which show that our proposed method yields better results than global thresholding methods and some other local thresholding methods do.

Autonomous model building is a crucial trend in model based methods like AAMs. This paper introduces an approach that deals with non-linearities by detecting distinct sub-parts in the data. Sub-models each representing an individual sub-part are derived from a minimum description length criterion. Thereby the resulting clique of models is more compact and obtains a better generalization behavior than a single model. The proposed AAM clique generation deals with non-linearities in the data in a generic information theoretic manner reducing the necessity of user interaction during training.

In the detection, improved shortest path algorithm and orientation offset algorithm were used, and finally, the detected curve was removed from original image. This paper presents a new method of motion analysis of articulated objects from feature point correspondences over monocular perspective images without imposing any constraints on motion. The 3D joint positions of an articulated object are estimated within a scale factor using the connection relationship of two links over two or three images. Then, twists and exponential maps are employed to represent the motion of each link. Finally, constraints from image point correspondences are developed to estimate the motion. In the algorithm, the characteristic of articulated motion, i.e., motion correlation among links, is applied to decrease the complexity of the problem and improve the robustness. A point pattern matching algorithm for articulated objects is also discussed in this paper. Simulations and experiments on real images show the correctness and efficiency of the algorithms.

A novel dominant correlogram based particle filter was proposed for an object tracking in visual surveillance. Particle filter outperforms the Kalman filter in non-linear and non-Gaussian estimation problem. This paper proposed incorporating spatial information into visual feature, and yields a reliable likelihood description of the observation and prediction. A similarity-ratio is defined to evaluate the effectivity of different similarity measurements in weighing samples. The experimental results demonstrate the effective and robust performance compared with the histogram based tracking in traffic scenes.

A system aiming at detecting driver drowsiness or fatigue on the basis of video analysis is presented. The focus of this paper is on how to extract driver yawning. A real time face detector is implemented to locate driver's face region. Subsequently, Kalman filter is adapted to track face region. Further, mouth window is localized within face region and degree of mouth openness is extracted based on mouth features to determine driver yawning in video. The system will reinitialize when occlusion or miss-detect on happen. Experiments are conducted to evaluate the validity of the described method.
