An effective approach for coverage holes was proposed, called Distance-assistant Coverage Hole Parching (DACHP) strategy. DACHP strategy would achieve the purpose of patching coverage holes using redundant sensor nodes within the wireless sensor networks. Simulation results show, compared with DFNFP and random algorithm, for the same size and shape coverage hole, DACHP can awaken five redundant nodes to patch 92.19% of hole, yet DFNFP needs awaken nine redundant nodes and just patch 90.28%. It can be seen that DFNFP not only awaken four extra nodes, but also is lower 1.19% in patching rate of hole than DACHP. In addition, DACHP is more stable in utilization of redundant nodes and does not produce additional cost.

Lines provide important information in images and line detection is crucial in many applications. Many line features can be used to detect line position while line width (i.e., thickness) is a more structured, higher-level feature compared to edge or other line features. Every point of the wide line structure has its own width in spite of the structure's asymmetry. In this paper, we use the parallel edges to get the line orientation and width. We do not need to know the actual width of the line, but rather recover it to get the region of interest (ROI). Then use a modified OTSU obtaining proper region threshold T to segment the wide line structures. By fusing feature of width and gray, a sequence of tests has been conducted on a variety of image samples obtained from simple natural scene and our experimental results demonstrate the practical and robust of the proposed method.

Human action recognition is a hot topic in computer vision field. Various applicable approaches have been proposed to recognize different types of actions. However, the recognition performance deteriorates rapidly when the viewpoint changes. Traditional approaches aim to address the problem by inductive transfer learning, in which target-view samples are manually labeled. In this paper, we present a novel approach for cross-view action recognition based on transduc-tive transfer learning. We address the problem by transferring instances across views. In our settings, both labels of examples from the target view and the corresponding relation between examples from pairwise views are dispensable. Experimental results on the IXMAS multi-view data set demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, and are comparable to the state of the art.

Object classification in traffic scene surveillance has attracted much attention recent years. Traditional classification methods need lots of labeled samples to build a satisfying classifier. However, the acquisition of the labeled samples may cost lots of time and human labor. In this paper, we propose an label-propagation based semi-supervised learning method which uses the information of both labeled and unlabeled samples. Experiment results show that our method outperforms the traditional methods both in accuracy and robustness.

The surface quality of the steel slab directly affects the performance and quality of the final steel *** to the raw material,rolling equipment and processing technology,however,different types of surface defects might exist on the steel slab surface,such as scarring,crack,roll marks,scratches,pinholes,phosphorus leather,holes,pitting,*** defects not only affect the appearance of the steel products,but also reduce the performances of steel products,such as the corrosion resistance,wear resistance and fatigue strength of the ***,it is very important to detect and identify automatically surface defects of steel slab products on-line and to control and improve the surface quality of the steel *** is a very complex *** this paper,we introduce some machine vision techniques to detect and identify defects from the steel slab *** adaboost based machine leaming method is proposed to detect defects from steel slab *** is usually able to remove pseudo-defects.A directional detector based on wavelet transformation is used to detect directional structural crack feature from the complex steel slab surface.A saliency based method combining elastic threshold method and Gabor wavelet filter is used to detect crack from the steel slab *** results show the effectiveness of these methods.

The hand vein pattern as a biometric trait for identification has attracted increasing interests in recent years thanks to its properties of uniqueness, permanence, non-invasiveness as well as strong immunity against forgery. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for back of the hand vein recognition. It first makes use of Oriented Gradient Maps (OGMs) to represent the Near-Infrared (NIR) hand vein images, simultaneously highlighting the distinctiveness of vein patterns and texture of their surrounding corium, in contrast to the state-of-the-art studies that only focused on the segmented vein region. SIFT based local matching is then performed to associate the keypoints between corresponding OGM pairs of the same subject. The proposed approach was benchmarked on the NCUT database consisting of 2040 NIR hand vein images from 102 subjects. The experimental results clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Asymmetric 3D-2D face recognition (FR) aims to recognize individuals from 2D face images using textured 3D face models in the gallery (or vice versa). This new FR scenario has the potential to be readily deployable in field applications while still keeping the advantages of 3D FR solutions of being more robust to pose and lighting variations. In this paper, we propose a new experimental protocol based on the UHDB11 dataset for benchmarking 3D-2D FR algorithms. This new experimental protocol allows for the study of the performance of a 3D-2D FR solution under pose and/or lighting variations. Furthermore, we also benchmarked two state of the art 3D-2D FR algorithms. One is based on the Annotated Deformable Model (using manually labeled landmarks in this paper) using manually labeled landmarks whereas the other makes use of Oriented Gradient Maps along with an automatic pose estimation through random forest. © 2013 IEEE.

Foreground and background are treated without distinction at classification stage in most background subtraction algorithms. However, correct classification of foreground is the primary requirement, and thus misclassification costs of the t-wo classes should be different. Based on this fact, we present a new method to introduce cost sensitivity into background subtraction, where a cost matrix is created to represent the costs of misclassification. Some items in the cost matrix are not constants, but functions of foreground occurence at each pixel location. By the use of such non-constant costs, detection rate of foreground is improved while increase of false alarms is prevented at the same time. Experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Due to the inherent noisy, low resolution and limited imaging range of echocardiography, it is difficult to identify mitral annulus (MA) where valves end that is crucial for further segmentation, modeling and multi-modalities registration of mitral valves. This work aims to automatically detect MA hinge points combining information of intra-cardiac local context and location relationships. The method includes the following steps: (1) segment left ventricle (LV) by prior shape and local histogram fitting based Active Contour Model (ACM); (2) design the local context features for training and classification of MA hinge points; (3) utilize additive min kernel based Support Vector Machines (SVM) classifier for fast computation to obtain MA candidates; (4) estimate MA hinge points by K-means algorithm under the location constraint of LV and MA. Our method was tested on echocardiographic four chamber image sequence of 10 pediatric patients (6 boys, 4 girls, 7.6±3.4 years). Compared with the manual annotations, the automatically detected MA results are reliable with reasonable accuracy, for lateral point (2.0±1.9, 1.8±1.2) pixels and for septal point (2.9±2.6, 1.2±1.0) pixels.

pattern matching is a fundamental application text retrieval, string query, biological sequence analysis, etc. Therefore, the effective algorithm performing this kind of matching is in great need. In this paper, the wildcard is defines to match any one character in a sequence. Multiple wildcards form a gap. The length of a flexible gap is arbitrary. We design CLPM algorithm by use of cross list index structure to realize pattern matching with flexible wildcard gaps. The preprocessing algorithm is designed to initialize cross list so as to reduce searching space. In CLPM algorithm, the effective intervals is defined and computed based on the start positions of each sub pattern in each string, which help to obtain matching result set. Moreover, the approximate pattern matching is converted to short extract pattern matching. The contrast experiments are done based on DBLP tile data set. The results show that CLMP algorithm has better performance in the same fields.
