As intelligent technology and applications have become an integral part of nearly all aspects of people's daily lives, many intelligent systems have been designed to help people navigate the complex space of social interactions. One prominent strategy for such intelligent support is providing meaningful Ad Hoc Interventions (ADI), e.g., through timely notifications. An alternative is Technology-Supported Reflection (TSR), e.g., by offering information about activities in one's past for personal insights. In contrast to straight-up interventions, the aim of the latter strategy is not to directly augment human skills but instead support learning and personal growth over time. However, while TSR has seen widespread interest in applications in some areas, such as physical fitness and mental health, its use for improving human social interactions has not yet been systematically explored. Concretely, it is currently unclear 1) what forms of self-reflection systems intend to support, 2) how their different technological components (e.g., data collection, information integration) are involved in providing support, and 3) what common limitations and design challenges they face. In this article, we present the results of a systematic literature review focusing on these questions to provide a structured foundation for targeted research. Concretely, we identified and analysed a collection of 23 relevant papers, each describing a system deploying TSR to support humans with elements of social *** constructed a framework with a set of features to comprehensively describe and analyze the systems that support self-reflection, including their application domains, how they fit into the existing design framework, how they facilitate learning through reflection, how adaptive they are to individual users, and how they were evaluated. Facial expression recognition under occlusion conditions based on multi-feature cross-attention

Although facial expression recognition (FER) has a wide range of applications, it may be difficult to achieve under local occlusion conditions which may result in the loss of valuable expression features. This issue has motivated the present study, as a part of which an effective multi-feature cross-attention network (MFCA-Net) is proposed. The MFCA-Net consists of a two-branch network comprising a multi-feature convolution module and a local cross-attention module. Thus, it enables decomposition of facial features into multiple sub-features by the multi-feature convolution module to reduce the impact of local occlusion on facial expression feature extraction. In the next step, the local cross-attention module distinguishes between occluded and unoccluded sub-features and focuses on the latter to facilitate FER. When the MFCA-Net performance is evaluated by applying it to three public large-scale datasets (RAF-DB, FERPlus, and AffectNet), the experimental results confirm its good robustness. Further validation is performed on a real FER dataset with local occlusion of the face. © 2024 – IOS Press.

Metric-DST: Mitigating Selection Bias Through Diversity-Guided Semi-Supervised Metric Learning

Selection bias poses a critical challenge for fairness in machine learning, as models trained on data that is less representative of the population might exhibit undesirable behavior for underrepresented profiles. Semi-supervised learning strategies like self-training can mitigate selection bias by incorporating unlabeled data into model training to gain further insight into the distribution of the population. However, conventional self-training seeks to include high-confidence data samples, which may reinforce existing model bias and compromise effectiveness. We propose Metric-DST, a diversity-guided self-training strategy that leverages metric learning and its implicit embedding space to counter confidence-based bias through the inclusion of more diverse samples. Metric-DST learned more robust models in the presence of selection bias for generated and real-world datasets with induced bias, as well as a molecular biology prediction task with intrinsic bias. The Metric-DST learning strategy offers a flexible and widely applicable solution to mitigate selection bias and enhance fairness of machine learning models. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Gait planning of quadruped robots plays an important role in achieving less walking, including dynamic and static gait. In this article, a static and dynamic gait control method based on center of gravity stability margin is proposed. Firstly, the robot model and kinematics modeling are introduced. Secondly, the robot's foot static and dynamic gait were planned and the foot trajectory was designed. Finally, two types of gait of the robot were simulated using Vrep simulation software, and the differences in stability and speed between the coordinated gait with speed and stability in the static and dynamic gait of a 12 degree of freedom robot were analyzed, verifying the effectiveness of the gait control method proposed in this paper. © 2023 IEEE.

With routing protocols that are primarily concerned with location estimates, the most significant problem is that new neighbors are acquired slowly, which results in inefficient routing decisions. Because routing and forwarding would fail if the next-hop unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was no longer in sight. In this paper a system that makes use of unscented Kalman filter prediction in response to improve the next-hop position in real time in order to reduce the overall performance of route forwarding is proposed. It is being introduced to the classic GPRS protocol in order to facilitate the development of new routing protocols with OPNET. The new routing protocol demonstrates a greater rise in point-to-point packet delay and forwarding rate when compared to the original routing system. © 2021 IEEE.

Detecting objects in the aerial-view scene is challenging for the objects usually have small scales relative to the image, making it hard to achieve high accuracy in full-image detection. Slice detection tries to overcome this by cutting the full image into slices before detecting them, but objects are sparsely distributed and usually clustered in local areas, a large number of background areas without objects can be ignored to improve detection efficiency. In this paper, we present PickDet, a framework for efficient and effective object detection in the aerial-view scene, which only chooses slices containing objects to conduct detection. The key components of PickDet include a lightweight convolutional network (PickNet), a screening strategy (SoftPick), and fine-tuned detectors. Given slices of aerial-view images, PickNet first outputs the probability of object existence. Then SoftPick conducts a double-threshold screening strategy to pick the slices which contain objects. Finally, all picked slices are fed into the detector in parallel and full-image detection is used as an auxiliary mean. Compared with previous methods, PickDet achieves higher accuracy and more efficiency in the aerial-view scene. We evaluate PickDet on Visdrone and Oiltank datasets, experiments show that PickDet can result in up to 28.0% AP improvement compared to full-image detection, and can result in up to 2.9% AP increase and up to 5 times inference speedup compared to slice detection.

In order to improve the load balancing capability of the AOMDV routing protocol of the ad hoc network, the network nodes are divided into two levels, Risk and No risk, based on the queue buffer ratio, and a different processing is done for different levels. Directly remove the risk level nodes and assign the corresponding virtual hops to the No Risk level nodes via the threshold comparison. The higher the queue cache rate, the higher the corresponding virtual hops. The RREP and Hello messages are expanded, and the node queue cache ratio is added to update and collect the latest path node status information. The improved protocol uses the minimum virtual hops containing node load information as the basis for optimal path selection, and uses OPNET to simulate at a fixed node rate under different network loads. The results show that the improved routing protocol plays a role in load balancing for nodes at the expense of limited routing overhead, relieves network congestion, increases the packet delivery rate, effectively reduces the end-to-end transmission delay, and improves self-organization. Network performance provides a relatively simple method. © 2021 IEEE.

Data-free knowledge distillation aims to learn a compact student network from a pre-trained large teacher network without using the original training data of the teacher network. Existing collection-based and generation-based methods train student networks by collecting massive real examples and generating synthetic examples, respectively. However, they inevitably become weak in practical scenarios due to the difficulties in gathering or emulating sufficient real-world data. To solve this problem, we propose a novel method called Hybrid Data-Free Distillation (HiDFD), which leverages only a small amount of collected data as well as generates sufficient examples for training student networks. Our HiDFD comprises two primary modules, i.e., the teacher-guided generation and student distillation. The teacher-guided generation module guides a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) by the teacher network to produce high-quality synthetic examples from very few real-world collected examples. Specifically, we design a feature integration mechanism to prevent the GAN from overfitting and facilitate the reliable representation learning from the teacher network. Meanwhile, we drive a category frequency smoothing technique via the teacher network to balance the generative training of each category. In the student distillation module, we explore a data inflation strategy to properly utilize a blend of real and synthetic data to train the student network via a classifier-sharing-based feature alignment technique. Intensive experiments across multiple benchmarks demonstrate that our HiDFD can achieve state-of-the-art performance using 120 times less collected data than existing methods. Wireless Ad Hoc Network Routing developed on demand-based distance vector (AODV) is a routing protocol whose characteristic is that distance is the vector. This paper introduces the development process of the protocol;enumerate the routing table entries of the AODV protocol and basic undertaking operations in the protocol. It shows that keeping specific state information in routing table entries can correctly establish peer nodes. Also, according to the related issue that has to be considered in the deployment, it is proposed that the ant colony algorithm and the AODV protocol should complement each other. The ant colony algorithm has been applied to solve the problem of small storage capacity of a single node in the protocol, energy loss caused by frequent topological changes, and time delay caused by unstable communication media. © 2021 IEEE.

In competitive multiplayer online video games, teamwork is of utmost importance, implying high levels of interdependence between the joint outcomes of players. When engaging in such interdependent interactions, humans rely on trust to facilitate coordination of their individual behaviours. However, online games often take place between teams of strangers, with individual members having little to no information about each other than what they observe throughout the interaction itself. A better understanding of the social behaviours that are used by players to form trust could not only facilitate richer gaming experiences, but could also lead to insights about team interactions. As such, this paper presents a first step towards understanding how and which types of in-game behaviour relate to trust formation. In particular, we investigate a) which in-game behaviour were relevant for trust formation (first part of the study) and b) how they relate to the reported player's trust in their teammates (the second part of the study). The first part consisted of interviews with League of Legends players in order to create a taxonomy of in-game behaviours relevant for trust formation. As for the second part, we ran a small-scale pilot study where participants played the game and then answered a questionnaire to measure their trust in their teammates. Our preliminary results present a taxonomy of in-game behaviours which can be used to annotate the games regarding trust behaviours. Based on the pilot study, the list of behaviours could be extended as to improve the results. These findings can be used to research the role of trust formation in teamwork. © 2022 Owner/Author.
