High-speed railway fastener detection and localization method based on convolutional neural network

Railway transportation is the artery of China's national economy and plays an important role in the development of today's society. Due to the late start of China's railway security inspection technology, the current railway security inspection tasks mainly rely on manual inspection, but the manual inspection efficiency is low, and a lot of manpower and material resources are needed. In this paper, we establish a steel rail fastener detection image dataset, which contains 4,000 rail fastener pictures about 4 types. We use the regional suggestion network to generate the region of interest, extracts the features using the convolutional neural network, and fuses the classifier into the detection network. With online hard sample mining to improve the accuracy of the model, we optimize the Faster RCNN detection framework by reducing the number of regions of interest. Finally, the model accuracy reaches 99% and the speed reaches 35FPS in the deployment environment of TITAN X GPU. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper focuses mainly on adaptive dictionary updating and abnormality detection via weighted space coding in video surveillance. Generally, abnormality analysis conducted on a large amount of video data is very complicated, time-consuming and time-variant. However, our dictionary is very efficient at following up on shifted contents in video and abandoning old inactive information in time. The adaptability characteristic also helps reduce the dictionary's size to a small scale, since it only needs to keep recent or active information. We also introduce a simple, but effective, judgement criterion for abnormal detection based on sparse coding over weighted bases. Because of the condensed dictionary and the simplified judgment criterion, our algorithm performs online learning and online detection with a high speed and a high accuracy in various scenes.

Automatic License Plate detection and recognition (ALPR) is a quite popular and active research topic in the field of computer vision, image processing and intelligent transport systems. ALPR is used to make detection and recognition processes more robust and efficient in highly complicated environments and backgrounds. Several research investigations are still necessary due to some constraints such as: completeness of numbering systems of countries, different colors, various languages, multiple sizes and varied fonts. For this, we present in this paper an automatic framework for License Plate (LP) detection and recognition from complex scenes. Our framework is based on mask region convolutional neural networks used for LP detection, segmentation and recognition. Although some studies have focused on LP detection, LP recognition, LP segmentation or just two of them, our study uses the maskr-cnn in the three stages. The evaluation of our framework is enhanced by four datasets for different countries and consequently with various languages. In fact, it tested on four datasets including images captured from multiple scenes under numerous conditions such as varied orientation, poor quality images, blurred images and complex environmental backgrounds. In this paper, we propose a method based on the SVM algorithm to recognize dynamic hand gestures. The information of motion trajectory is captured by a leap motion in three-dimension space. A new methodology of feature extracting is proposed to guarantee the length of samples being the same. The elements of feature vectors are ranged according to two different criteria: one is the amplitude of the variation of orientation angles, and the other criterion is the order of the appearance of features. Experimental results show that this method can classify the dynamic hand gestures effectively.

Real-time performance can be greatly improved, if the early recognition is implemented. In this paper, a dynamic hand gesture early recognition system is proposed. The system can recognize the gesture before it is completed. Our method is based on the Hidden Semi-Markov Models. Three-dimensional information of the gesture trajectory collected by leapmotion is the main data we used. Experiments on the dataset which we established demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.

Sketch-based image retrieval (SBIR) is a challenging task due to the large cross-domain gap between sketches and natural images. How to align abstract sketches and natural images into a common high-level semantic space remains a key problem in SBIR. In this paper, we propose a novel semi-heterogeneous three-way joint embedding network (Semi3-Net), which integrates three branches (a sketch branch, a natural image branch, and an edgemap branch) to learn more discriminative cross-domain feature representations for the SBIR task. The key insight lies with how we cultivate the mutual and subtle relationships amongst the sketches, natural images, and edgemaps. A semi-heterogeneous feature mapping is designed to extract bottom features from each domain, where the sketch and edgemap branches are shared while the natural image branch is heterogeneous to the other branches. In addition, a joint semantic embedding is introduced to embed the features from different domains into a common high-level semantic space, where all of the three branches are shared. To further capture informative features common to both natural images and the corresponding edgemaps, a co-attention model is introduced to conduct common channel-wise feature recalibration between different domains. A hybrid-loss mechanism is designed to align the three branches, where an alignment loss and a sketch-edgemap contrastive loss are presented to encourage the network to learn invariant cross-domain representations. Experimental results on two widely used category-level datasets (Sketchy and TU-Berlin Extension) demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art methods. Face restoration (FR) is a specialized field within image restoration that aims to recover low-quality (LQ) face images into high-quality (HQ) face images. Recent advances in deep learning technology have led to significant progress in FR methods. In this paper, we begin by examining the prevalent factors responsible for real-world LQ images and introduce degradation techniques used to synthesize LQ images. We also discuss notable benchmarks commonly utilized in the field. Next, we categorize FR methods based on different tasks and explain their evolution over time. Furthermore, we explore the various facial priors commonly utilized in the restoration process and discuss strategies to enhance their effectiveness. In the experimental section, we thoroughly evaluate the performance of state-of-the-art FR methods across various tasks using a unified benchmark. We analyze their performance from different perspectives. Finally, we discuss the challenges faced in the field of FR and propose potential directions for future advancements. In this paper, the combination of the variable precision rough set and the limited tolerance relation under multi-granularity is explored. As an extension of rough set model, Multi-granularity variable precision limited tolerance rough set model is con-structed. Properties of upper and lower approximation operator and detailed structure of object class through threshold are discussed. For several decades, the offline handwriting recognition problem has escaped a satisfactory solution. In the field of online recognition, researchers have had more successful performance, but the ability to extract dynamic information from static images has not been well explored yet. In this paper, we introduce a novel multi-lingual word handwriting recovery framework based on a convolutional denoising autoencoder with an attention model for pen up / down, velocity and temporal order recovery. The proposed framework consists of extracting robust features from a handwriting image using a stacked denoising autoencoder and an encoder Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit (BGRU) model. Then, the obtained vectors are decoded to produce an online script with dynamic characteristics using a BGRU with temporal attention. Evaluation is done on a Latin and Arabic Online and offline handwriting character / word databases and the proposed framework achieves high competitive results.
