The article deals with an enhanced damping control strategy exploiting Hamiltonian control methods for a two-phase interleaved buck converter within low-carbon hydrogen production systems. This approach integrates the proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer and photovoltaic source to contribute to an efficient low-carbon hydrogen production. By applying principles of physics that govern energy conservation and system dynamics, the proposed strategy achieves a more accurate and resilient control mechanism. It specifically focuses on reducing oscillations and improving the system's stability in case of disturbances. The effectiveness of this control technique was assessed through simulation tests, confirming its superior performance. Results demonstrate the PEM electrolyzer's efficiency in both steady-state and dynamic operating conditions, while pointing out the potential of the proposed control approach in enhancing system reliability and performance.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and registers the highest number of deaths for women with cancer. Recent advancements in diagnostic activities combined with large-scale screening policies have significantly lowered the mortality rates for breast cancer patients. However, the manual inspection of tissue slides by pathologists is cumbersome, time-consuming, and is subject to significant inter- and intra-observer variability. Recently, the advent of whole-slide scanning systems have empowered the rapid digitization of pathology slides, and enabled to develop digital workflows. These progress further enable to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist, automate, and augment pathological diagnosis. But AI techniques, especially Deep Learning (DL), require a large amount of high-quality annotated data to learn from. Constructing such task-specific datasets poses several challenges, such as, data-acquisition level constrains, time-consuming and expensive annotations, and anonymization of patient information, etc. In this paper, we introduce the BReAst Carcinoma Subtyping (BRACS) dataset, a large cohort of annotated Hematoxylin & Eosin (H&E)-stained images to advance the characterization of breast lesions. BRACS contains 547 Whole-Slide Images (WSIs), and 4539 Regions of Interest (RoIs) extracted from the WSIs. Each WSI, and respective RoIs, are annotated by the consensus of three board-certified pathologists into different lesion categories. Specifically, BRACS includes three lesion types, i.e., benign, malignant and atypical, which are further subtyped into seven categories. The included RoIs exhibit large variability in dimensions, and incorporate the usual tissue-preparation and staining artifacts to bestow a realistic breast cancer diagnosis. It is, to the best of our knowledge, the largest annotated dataset for breast cancer subtyping both at WSI- and RoI-level. Comparative analysis of AI algorithms on real medical data for chronic pain detection

Background and Objective Chronic pain is a pervasive healthcare challenge with profound implications for patient well-being, clinical decision-making, and resource allocation. Traditional detection methods often rely on subjective assessments and manual documentation review, which can be time-consuming and unpredictable. Integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into healthcare offers a promising approach to enhance chronic pain management through automated and standardized text analysis. This study examines the use of AI in detecting chronic pain from Italian clinical notes. We leverage machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP) techniques to better understand how chronic pain is documented, thereby enabling efficient, data-driven solutions in nursing and medical practice. Methods & Materials We trained XGBoost, Gradient Boosting (GBM), and BERT-based models (BioBit, bert-base-italian-xxl) on 1,008 annotated Italian clinical notes. Input texts were encoded using TF-IDF, Word2Vec, or FastText for tree-based models and tokenized for transformers. While models were trained on full notes, evaluation was performed on fragmented text to simulate realistic usage. Bayesian optimization and stratified cross-validation over 30 trials ensured robust hyperparameter tuning and performance estimates. Results Our AI-based approach achieved high overall accuracy. In particular, XGBoost with TF-IDF embeddings yielded the best performance, reaching an F1-score of 0.92 ± 0.01, with precision at 94%, sensitivity at 91%, and specificity at 93%. The chronic pain notes contained fewer total words (73.91 vs. 119.86, p = 0.0021) and unique words (57.27 vs. 92.78, p = 0.0006) than non-chronic pain notes, underscoring the significance of concise, keyword-rich clinical documentation. Conclusions Our findings demonstrate the effectiveness of AI in identifying chronic pain cases from fragmentary clinical notes. By focusing on concise, keyword-oriented text, this work establishes

The dynamic nature of Smart Environments, enabled thanks to the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm, requires the application of innovative resource discovery/selection services. Recommender systems provide useful and customized information, properly selected and filtered, for users and services. This paper proposes a multiagent approach for building a recommendation system in smart environments. Smart objects, enhanced IoT objects interacting among them and with users, are mapped through real-valued vectors obtained by word embedding techniques. The vectors are assigned to bio-inspired agents that, working autonomously, bring out a set of similarity grouped entities - clusters of smart objects with similar features - thus enabling an efficient and dynamic recommendation/selection system. Experiment results on synthetic and real datasets prove the effectiveness of the approach.

This research aims to analyze the performance of a traditional proportional-integral (PI) controller devised for a 3-level interleaved buck converter and to supply a proton exchange membrane electrolyzer (PEMEL). Besides, since PEMELs play an essential role in the production of low-carbon footprint hydrogen by exploiting the surplus energy from renewable sources, the design takes into account the variability of this source. The proposed PI controller is designed to manage the output current, and consequently the generated hydrogen volume, and to assure that the input capacitor voltage is always balanced; this reduces the power devices' stress increasing the reliability. performance analysis is conducted through experimental results. Finally, the obtained results demonstrate effective current control and fast transient response, validating the goodness of the proposed control system in PEM electrolyzer applications.

A power management strategy for a proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer connected to a wind turbine conversion system (WTCS) is proposed in this paper. It is based on the characterization of the wind turbine and the electrolyzer as well. With the aim to interface the WCTS and the PEM electrolyzer, a stacked interleaved DC-DC buck converter has been chosen due to its benefits for this application from output current ripple and reliability point of view. This converter is controlled so that it can have a dynamic faster than the wind turbine avoiding overvoltage during transients, which could damage the PEM electrolyzer. In order to assess the performance of the power management strategy, experimental tests have been carried out. The reported results demonstrate the correct behavior of the system during transient operation. © 2019 IEEE.

This paper addresses the design of a bi-directional DC/DC power converter to interface a supercapacitor bank and a motor-generator unit. The design is based on an interleaved six legs topology in which the current is shared among six inductors to minimize their weight and cost, allowing, besides, a low switching frequency to lessen switching losses. The converter is conceived to be employed in an electric Kinetic Energy Recovery System for Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles. The system makes use of a supercapacitor as a storage system, and a motorgenerator unit connected to the drive shaft for vehicle acceleration and braking. The system uses available commercial devices, thus obtaining a cheap and high-efficiency conversion chain. It is shown how the design criteria differ from traditional interleaved converters. The same topology allows minimizing the input and output ripple and improving the reliability in case of fault as well. Losses are reduced both by sharing the currents and by a suitable control strategy, which allows more converters to be connected in parallel to increase the delivered power. Results, given in simulation, assess the stability and dynamic performance of the conversion circuit, showing a low current and voltage ripple in all operating conditions. © 2020, European Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, Environment and Power Quality (EA4EPQ). The main objective of this paper is to develop a control strategy for a 3-level interleaved buck converter (3-LIBC) for improving the reliability of a proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer operation in case of open-circuit power switch failures. The hydrogen flow rate of the PEM electrolyzer is managed through the output current of the 3-LIBC using a modified sliding mode control. Finally, the proposed control strategy of 3-LIBC and the reliability of PEM operation have been investigated by performing simulations. The obtained simulation results enable verifying the good performance of the PEM electrolyzer that, despite the operation of the 3-LIBC in the degraded operating mode (i.e., faulty mode), it can guarantee the H 2 production.
