We present the design, implementation, and evaluation of single assignment data structures and of a software controlled cache in an existing multi-threaded architecture platform – the Efficient Architecture for Running Threads (EARTH). The I-Structure Software-Controlled Cache (ISSC) exploits temporal and spatial locality of EARTH split-phased memory transactions for single-assignment memory references. Our experimental evaluation indicates that the caching mechanism for single-assignment storage makes the EARTH memory system more robust to variations in the latency of memory operations. As a consequence the system can be ported to a wider range of machine platforms and deliver speedup for both regular and irregular application.

An on-demand system for transmission of MPEG-1 video across Internet connections using a smoothing algorithm developed by (Salehi et al., 1996) is presented. Experiments with this system transmitting video over Ethernet and ATM network hardware indicate the potential for higher playback rates in our system when smoothed transmissions are used.

With the rapid development of Web-based learning and new concepts like virtual cla- rooms, virtual laboratories and virtual universities, many issues need to be addressed. On the technical side, there is a need for effective technology for deployment of W- based *** the learning side, the cyber mode of learning is very different from classroom-based learning. How can instructional developmentcope with this new style of learning? On the management side, the establishment of the cyber university - poses very different requirements for the set-up. Does industry-university partnership provide a solution to addressing the technological and management issues? Why do we need to standardize e-learning and what can we do already? As with many other new developments, more research is needed to establish the concepts and best practice for Web-based learning. ICWL 2004, the 3rd International Conference on Web-Based Learning, was held at the Tsinghua University (Beijing, China) from August 8th to 11th, 2004, as a continued attempt to address many of the above-mentioned issues. Following the great successes of ICWL 2002 (Hong Kong) and ICWL 2003 (Australia), ICWL 2004 aimed at p- senting new progress in the technical, pedagogical, as well as management issues of Web-based learning. The conference featured a comprehensive program, including a tutorial session, a keynote talk, a main track for regular paper presentations, and an - dustrial track. We received 120 papers and accepted only 58 of them in the main track for both oral and poster presentations.

Facial expressions convey human emotions and can be categorized into macro-expressions (MaEs) and micro-expressions (MiEs) based on duration and intensity. While MaEs are voluntary and easily recognized, MiEs are involuntary, rapid, and can reveal concealed emotions. The integration of facial expression analysis with Internet-of-Thing (IoT) systems has significant potential across diverse scenarios. IoT-enhanced MaE analysis enables real-time monitoring of patient emotions, facilitating improved mental health care in smart healthcare. Similarly, IoT-based MiE detection enhances surveillance accuracy and threat detection in smart security. Our work aims to provide a comprehensive overview of research progress in facial expression analysis and explores its potential integration with IoT systems. We discuss the distinctions between our work and existing surveys, elaborate on advancements in MaE and MiE analysis techniques across various learning paradigms, and examine their potential applications in IoT. We highlight challenges and future directions for the convergence of facial expression-based technologies and IoT systems, aiming to foster innovation in this domain. By presenting recent developments and practical applications, our work offers a systematic understanding of the ways of facial expression analysis to enhance IoT systems in healthcare, security, and beyond.

Trajectory prediction is a crucial challenge in autonomous vehicle motion planning and decision-making techniques. However, existing methods face limitations in accurately capturing vehicle dynamics and interactions. To address this issue, this paper proposes a novel approach to extracting vehicle velocity and acceleration, enabling the learning of vehicle dynamics and encoding them as auxiliary information. The VDI-LSTM model is designed, incorporating graph convolution and attention mechanisms to capture vehicle interactions using trajectory data and dynamic information. Specifically, a dynamics encoder is designed to capture the dynamic information, a dynamic graph is employed to represent vehicle interactions, and an attention mechanism is introduced to enhance the performance of LSTM and graph convolution. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our model, extensive experiments are conducted, including comparisons with several baselines and ablation studies on real-world highway datasets. Experimental results show that VDI-LSTM outperforms other baselines compared, which obtains a 3% improvement on the average RMSE indicator over the five prediction steps.
