Experimental investigation of methyl-orange removal using eco-friendly cost-effective materials raw fava bean peels and their formulated physical, and chemically activated carbon

The discharge of effluents from dye industries into water streams poses a significant environmental and public health risk. In response, eco-friendly adsorbents derived from agricultural waste, such as Fava Bean Peels (R–FBP), have been investigated as potential materials for the removal of such pollutants. In this study, R–FBP and their corresponding physical and chemically activated carbon (P-RFB-AC and C-FBP-AC) were synthesized using H₃PO₄ acid and characterized using FT-IR, and SEM analyses. An optimization process was conducted to determine the optimum conditions for achieving high Methyl Orange (M. Orange) removal efficiencies using the prepared materials, namely R–FBP, P-RFB-AC, and C-FBP-AC. The adsorption mechanism was examined by analyzing the isotherm and kinetics. The results revealed that the physical raw-activated carbon exhibited the highest removal efficiency of 96.8% compared to other materials. This outcome was achieved through the use of ANN combined with Moth Search Algorithm (MSA), which was found to be the most effective model for achieving the highest M. Orange removal efficiency from Physical raw fava bean activated carbon. Under parameters of 1000 mg/l M. Orange concentration, 2 g/l dose, 15 min contact time, and 120 rpm shaking, the best experimental and predicted removal efficiencies for physical-activated carbon fava bean rind were 96.8 RE%, 96.01 indicated RSM RE%, and 95.75 predicted ANN RE%. The highest experimental and predicted removal efficiencies for the H₃PO₄ chemical activated carbon fava bean peel were 94%RE. This study aimed to develop an economical solution for treating industrial wastewater contaminated with anionic M. Orange dye using raw fava bean peel and their generated activated carbon, in both physical and chemical forms. A molecular dynamics study on CO2 diffusion coefficient in saline water under a wide range of temperatures, pressures, and salinity concentrations: Implications to CO2 geological storage

Carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration in saline aquifers has been introduced as one of the most practical, long-term, and safe solutions to tackle a growing threat originating from the emission of CO2. Successfully executing and planning the process necessitates a comprehensive understanding of CO2 transport properties-particularly the diffusion coefficient, influencing the behavior of CO2 dissolution in water/brine regarding the shape of viscous fingers, the onset of instabilities, etc. In this research, Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulation was employed to compute the CO2 diffusion coefficient in various NaCl saline water concentrations (1-6 mol NaCl/kg water) under the broad spectrum of temperatures (294-423 K) and pressures (10-30 MPa) to acquire a data-set for the CO2 diffusion coefficient in different circumstances. According to the results, the NaCl concentration increase gives rise to a decrease in the CO2 diffusion coefficient, by which the reduction is most notably at higher temperatures. In fact, the presence of more cations due to the salinity concentration increase forms further hydration shells, acting as a barrier for CO2 diffusion. In addition, the rise in the CO2 diffusion at elevated temperatures can be explained by the cation's hydration shell size reduction with temperature increment due to intensifying repulsive forces among water molecules. We also proposed a new precise correlation for estimating CO2 diffusion coefficients over temperatures and salinity ranges of this study. Regarding the pressure variation effects, no tangible changes are observed with pressure increase, validating a negligible influence on the diffusion coefficient. Furthermore, the variability of the CO2 diffusion coefficient in the presence of other salts, namely MgCl2, CaCl2, KCl, and Na2SO4, were computed separately. The Sequoia Pliocene channel reservoirs within the West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM) concession, located offshore Nile Delta, pose significant challenges due to their complex stratigraphy and variable reservoir properties. This study employs an integrated approach, combining seismic data interpretation with comprehensive petrophysical analysis, to characterize these reservoirs and assess their hydrocarbon potential. Seismic data interpretation revealed a complex depositional environment, characterized by an upward-fining sequence of sandstones and mudstones. High seismic amplitudes were associated with gas sands, while lower amplitudes indicated background shale. The seismic stratigraphy indicates that the Sequoia channel system evolved from an initial high-energy erosional phase to a more subdued depositional environment, leading to significant heterogeneity in reservoir quality. Petrophysical analysis demonstrated that effective porosity values within the reservoir range from 18% to 30%, with water saturation levels between 38% and 68%, reflecting the variability in reservoir properties across different zones. The calculated Gas Initially in Place (GIIP) for the Sequoia channel ranges from 724.1 BCF to 4158.71 BCF, highlighting the substantial hydrocarbon potential within this complex system. This study underscores the importance of integrating seismic and petrophysical data to develop a comprehensive understanding of the Sequoia channel reservoirs. The results provide a robust framework for optimizing field development strategies, which is crucial for maximizing hydrocarbon recovery. The findings also offer valuable insights into the geological complexities of the WDDM concession, serving as a reference for future exploration and production efforts in similar deep-water environments. © 2025 The Author(s). The lack of cutting transportation during drilling operations especially in horizontal and inclined wells can lead to large amounts of non-productive time and costly solutions. This problem has been encountered very often in the field due mostly to settlement of the cuttings at the bottom side of the hole and especially around pipe joints. Moreover, adopted rheological models are limited to 60 deg. inclination angle to predict the flow behavior of cuttings transport in directional wells. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to investigate the effect of various parameters related to the well configuration (inclined vs. horizontal), operating conditions, pipe/tool joints configurations, and flow conditions on the cutting velocity through an extensive experimental study with data analytics. The experimental approach was analyzed through film software, which allowed for the cutting velocities to be estimated. Regression models of cutting velocity with respect to each dimensionless group were formed and validated through a statistical analysis. A new empirical model for the cutting velocity was developed using multiple linear regression analyses. A sensitivity analysis was conducted to highlight the contribution of each dimensionless group on the variation of the cutting velocity. The newly proposed model for cutting velocity was tested and the calculated cutting velocity of 0.532 ft/s (.162 m/s) fell within the range of study between 0.188 ft/s (.057 m/s) and 0.690 ft/s (.210 m/s). © 2020 ASME.

Tangkuban Perahu and nearby volcano-hosted geothermal prospects are believed to be important for future power generation in West Java, Indonesia. Recharge areas of these prospects and geothermal fluid evolution are not yet fully understood. The objectives of this investigation are to describe the fluid origin, processes, and evolution of geothermal fluids in relation to the recharge and the conceptual model of the Tangkuban Perahu Geothermal Systems (TPGS). The investigation involved sampling and analysis of geothermal waters, rainwater, and gases collected in fumaroles and other manifestations around the TPGS. Isotopic results of δ18O and δ2H collected from thermal and rainwater indicate deep-circulating meteoric origin, at an infiltration altitude ranges between 753-850 m in low terrain. Meanwhile, the high-standing terrain indicates the recharge zone to be within the wall of the Sunda Caldera and mountain slopes. Chondrite normalized patterns reveal an overall flat trendline that suggests the enrichment of Lower Rare Earth Elements (LREEs) in the central part of Tangkuban Perahu which is derived from the magmatic influx. The non-atmospheric gases origin was diagnosed by the lower N2/Ar (≤ 38) and is characterized of meteoric origin. The positive δ18O shifts from Ciater (CT), Batu Gede (BG), and Domas crater (KwD) geothermal waters samples comparatively to local meteoric lines are influenced by the interaction with wall rocks or magmatic influx. In these geothermal systems, the meteoric water infiltrated to the depth is heated, mixed with near-surface water, and followed by partial discharge as thermal springs along faults. © 2022, The Authors. Zirconium oxide nanoparticle as an effective additive for non-damaging drilling fluid: A study through rheology and computational fluid dynamics investigation

The upsurge of drilling in shale and inaccessible reservoirs led to the emergence of Non Damaging Drilling Fluid (NDDF). Although this drilling fluid is non-invasive, the loss of rheological properties at high temperature poses a serious concern. In this study, we have investigated and quantified the enhancement in the performance of NDDF with the addition of zirconium oxide (ZrO2) nanoparticles (NPs) at 30, 60 and 80 °C. The synthesized ZrO2 NPs were of average 27 nm in size and were further characterized by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) adsorption methods. Varying concentrations, viz., 0.5, 0.8 and 1 wt% of ZrO2 NPs have been used to investigate their effect on various properties of NDDF. From the steady state rotational tests and viscoelastic measurements, it was observed that 1 wt% of ZrO2 NP NDDF had higher thermal stability in terms of viscosity and elasticity with a minimum filtrate loss. The ability to regain structural strength was also enhanced with the addition of ZrO2 NPs. Herschel Bulkley (HB) parameters from rheological measurements were calculated and optimized using genetic algorithm (GA) and were used to further carry out computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis. From CFD simulation results, it was observed that 1 wt% ZrO2 NP NDDF exhibited highest cutting carrying capacity as compared to 0 wt% (the base), 0.5 wt% and 0.8 wt% ZrO2 NP NDDF. Additionally, higher skewness in cutting deposition was observed for 1 wt% ZrO2 NP NDDF, limiting the possibility of bottom hole complications while drilling. This study is an important precursor for the oilfield application of nanoparticle based NDDF. © 2019 Elsevier B.V.

This case report investigates the preventive effect of Tinospora cordifolia extract on biocorrosion induced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa on mild steel API 5L in the simulated seawater medium. Electrochemical techniques, spectroscopic techniques, and surface analysis were employed to investigate biocide performance and corrosion behavior. P. aeruginosa has been shown to enhance iron dissolution in seawater medium. These findings point to the role of P. aeruginosa bacteria in forming differential oxygen, which causes corrosion. Morphology results from atomic Fourier microscopy (AFM) highlight the presence of P. aeruginosa in biotic environments, where the surface is rougher than in abiotic conditions. On the other hand, adding T. cordifolia to the biotic medium resulted in a smoother and more homogeneous surface without any significant deterioration. Electrochemical findings reveal that adding 300 mg L⁻¹ of T. cordifolia extract prevents the microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) of steel API 5L, with an optimum effectiveness value of 74.50 % after 21 days of incubation. This protective effect is caused by forming a more compact iron oxide surface layer and the adsorption of phenolic active compounds such as Moupinamide and others on the surface of mild steel API 5L, as detected by liquid chromatography-mass/spectrometry-mass spectrometry (LCMS-MS), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) techniques. © 2024 The Authors

Virtual reality (VR) enable us to train in a safe environment using computer-generated simulations. One such simulated environment is the Deepwater Horizon operation, and VR enables us to evaluate trainees’ and operators’ situation awareness (SA) in a non-hazardous environment. One unobtrusive and viable SA evaluation method might be the use of eye movements, specifically the time-ordered visual scan paths. In this research, we investigated how SA can be associated with visual scan paths in an anomaly detection task within the oil drilling rig virtual reality simulator. The results show that the trainees having lower SA tended to create random visual scan paths whereas the trainees having higher SA tended to create concentrated and refined visual scan paths. The results show promise in developing timely intervention methods through analyzing the visual scan path characteristics of the trainees. © 2020 by Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. This review synthesises advancements in natural convection within trapezoidal cavities using mono- and hybrid nanofluids, emphasising their geometric advantages for thermal management. Trapezoidal cavities promote asymmetric flow patterns that enhance heat transfer compared to conventional geometries, as demonstrated in applications like solar absorbers and electronic cooling. Through analysis of 50+ previous studies, the review identifies key trends: Hybrid nanofluids like Cu-Al₂O₃/water consistently outperform mono nanofluids in Nusselt number improvement, with gains exceeding 20 %. Inclined walls mitigate stagnant flow zones, though exact reduction rates vary with aspect ratio and nanoparticle concentration. Magnetic fields and porous media further modulate thermal performance, but trade-offs emerge between conductivity enhancement and viscosity penalties. This review provides a framework to optimise trapezoidal cavities with nanofluids for industrial deployment. © 2025 The Author(s)
