This case report investigates the preventive effect of Tinospora cordifolia extract on biocorrosion induced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa on mild steel API 5L in the simulated seawater medium. Electrochemical techniques, spectroscopic techniques, and surface analysis were employed to investigate biocide performance and corrosion behavior. P. aeruginosa has been shown to enhance iron dissolution in seawater medium. These findings point to the role of P. aeruginosa bacteria in forming differential oxygen, which causes corrosion. Morphology results from atomic Fourier microscopy (AFM) highlight the presence of P. aeruginosa in biotic environments, where the surface is rougher than in abiotic conditions. On the other hand, adding T. cordifolia to the biotic medium resulted in a smoother and more homogeneous surface without any significant deterioration. Electrochemical findings reveal that adding 300 mg L⁻¹ of T. cordifolia extract prevents the microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) of steel API 5L, with an optimum effectiveness value of 74.50 % after 21 days of incubation. This protective effect is caused by forming a more compact iron oxide surface layer and the adsorption of phenolic active compounds such as Moupinamide and others on the surface of mild steel API 5L, as detected by liquid chromatography-mass/spectrometry-mass spectrometry (LCMS-MS), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) techniques. © 2024 The Authors

Virtual reality (VR) enable us to train in a safe environment using computer-generated simulations. One such simulated environment is the Deepwater Horizon operation, and VR enables us to evaluate trainees’ and operators’ situation awareness (SA) in a non-hazardous environment. One unobtrusive and viable SA evaluation method might be the use of eye movements, specifically the time-ordered visual scan paths. In this research, we investigated how SA can be associated with visual scan paths in an anomaly detection task within the oil drilling rig virtual reality simulator. The results show that the trainees having lower SA tended to create random visual scan paths whereas the trainees having higher SA tended to create concentrated and refined visual scan paths. The results show promise in developing timely intervention methods through analyzing the visual scan path characteristics of the trainees. © 2020 by Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. This review synthesises advancements in natural convection within trapezoidal cavities using mono- and hybrid nanofluids, emphasising their geometric advantages for thermal management. Trapezoidal cavities promote asymmetric flow patterns that enhance heat transfer compared to conventional geometries, as demonstrated in applications like solar absorbers and electronic cooling. Through analysis of 50+ previous studies, the review identifies key trends: Hybrid nanofluids like Cu-Al₂O₃/water consistently outperform mono nanofluids in Nusselt number improvement, with gains exceeding 20 %. Inclined walls mitigate stagnant flow zones, though exact reduction rates vary with aspect ratio and nanoparticle concentration. Magnetic fields and porous media further modulate thermal performance, but trade-offs emerge between conductivity enhancement and viscosity penalties. This review provides a framework to optimise trapezoidal cavities with nanofluids for industrial deployment. © 2025 The Author(s)

Graphene oxide-based membranes, known for unique permeability and selectivity in oil/water separation, face limitations due to low flux and weak anti-fouling performance. To overcome these challenges, a series of GO@ZnO membranes were synthesized in a one-pot process, doping different amounts of nano-ZnO into GO with the aid of polydopamine (PDA) and 3-triethoxysilylpropylamine (KH550). This study found that evenly distributed nano-ZnO within the GO layers acted as hydrophilic intercalators, creating continuous rough nanochannels and increased interlayer spacing for effective water transport. The membrane M-5 demonstrated a significant increase in water permeability, reaching 5718 ± 151 L m−2 h−1 bar-1, nearly 20 times higher than the control group (M-0) without ZnO doping. Anti-fouling tests, using four different oil/water emulsions, showed that the oil rejection rates of M-5 were consistently above 99.7%. Furthermore, M-5 exhibited a flux recovery rate (FRR) of 95.5%, surpassing M-0 by 34.6%. Regeneration experiments confirmed that M-5 maintained an impressive oil rejection rate of 99.2% after 30 recycling cycles. These results indicate that nano-ZnO enhances surface roughness and hydration barrier layers, significantly improving water permeability without compromising rejection rate and anti-fouling performance. The study presents a straightforward approach to fabricating continuous nanochannels and hydrophilic layers in two-dimensional laminar GO membranes, highlighting the potential of GO@ZnO membranes in oil-water treatment applications. © 2024, The Authors. Since the establishment of the COVID-19 pandemic, a range of studies have been developed to understand the pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2 infection, vaccine development, and therapeutic testing, which was preponderant for controlling the pandemic. However, the possible impacts that these viruses can have on non-target organisms have been explored little, and our knowledge of the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic for biota is still very limited. In response to these concerns, the current study aimed to address this knowledge gap by evaluating the possible impacts of oral exposure of C57Bl/6J female mice to SARS-CoV-2 lysate protein (at 20 µg/L) for 30 days, using multiple biomarkers. Although we did not have evidence of hematological, mutagenic, or genotoxic effects, we noted that the ingestion of SARS-CoV-2 lysate protein-induced behavioral disorders (hypoactivity, anxiety-like behavior, and short-term memory deficit), which were associated with oxidative stress and dopaminergic and cholinesterase imbalance in the animal brain. Furthermore, the elevation of bilirubin levels and lactate dehydrogenase levels in these animals suggests the occurrence of hepatic changes, and the redox imbalance, nitrosative stress, and elevated production of IFN-γ and histopathological changes indicate that the SARS-CoV-2-exposed group showed significant intestinal and ovarian toxicity. Principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis confirmed that the groups were clearly separated and showed that the largest changes upon SARS-CoV-2 exposure were related to ROS, MDA, nitrite, IFN-γ/IL-10 levels and SOD and catalase activity in the ovary;IFN-γ/IL-10 production and SOD activity in the duodenum;BChE activity in the brain;bilirubin levels and lactate dehydrogenase activity in the serum;number of primary follicles in the ovary. This study compares two coagulants: Alum Based Coagulant (ABC) and Eggshell Coagulant (ESC) used for the coag-flocculation treatment of cosmetic wastewater to determine the efficacy of ESC at optimum condition. The residual values of TSS particles in the wastewater were measured and recorded after the coag-flocculation treatment at 30mins settling time. The cubic models obtained following the Central Composite Design (CCD) were used to confirm the experimental predetermined optimal pH and dosage were recorded as: 6 and 0.3g/L for ESC, while pH 8 and 0.1g/L were reported for ABC. The optimal point plots 85% and 97% TSS removal efficiency which corresponds to 38g/L and 6g/L of residual TSS recorded for ESC and ABC respectively. The results obtained show that;the ABC and ESC driven coag-flocculation satisfied the EPA standard for wastewater discharge at optimal pH. Top of reservoir (TOR) determination is one of the resource keys features of the geothermal resource and significantly impacts the well's productivity (Casing Point Determination). It is defined from the conceptual model process and refined by the well temperature data. This paper will describe the geologic controls on the top of reservoir geometries of the Muara Laboh (ML). ML has located in step over-pull apart basins of the Great Sumatra Fault Zone segment. The features then accommodate the emplacement of quaternary to tertiary volcanic and intrusion. The geoscientific data from the existing conceptual model, well cuttings, cores, MeB test, and image log data were combined with the drilling parameter data (mud temperature & mud loses) to characterize the geology of the TOR. Drilling results show that wells in the NE sector have a shallower TOR. The TOR is located near the quaternary Patah Sembilan volcanic unit's contact with the undifferentiated silicic formation. The NE sector TOR corresponds with the change of alteration type from smectite rich argillic zone (240°C) identified underlaying the NE reservoir sector's transition zone. MeB Index below 10 seems to be corresponding with the base of conductive of 5 Ohm, and the NE TOR location. The SW sectors TOR sits a deeper elevation (∼300msl), lies within the intercalated dacite-andesite volcanic unit, higher temperature propylitic alteration zone, with epidote, epidote-adularia-quartz, and open space veins were observed below the TOR. Similar to the NE sector, the drop of the MeB index to less than ten, which is also related to the lithology contact, shows the possibility that the TOR has dropped in the SW sector. Below the low MeB zone, calcite infilled the fractures and sometimes encapsulated the pre-existing epidote vein;calcite then decreases with increasing epidote vein and epidote-adularia vein occurrence. Onshore geological storage of CO₂ is focused in northeastern Thailand. This study presents a case study on numerical simulations of CO₂ injection into Permian carbonate reservoir in the Sin Phu Horm gas field, which will become a depleted gas field in 2037. Schlumberger Petrel and ECLIPSE are used for reservoir modeling and simulation. One injection well located at the crest of the anticlinal structure is designed to perform injection of CO₂ into the dolomite unit of the Pha Nok Khao Formation at approximately 2037 m from earth surface. This simulation of CO₂ injection aims to verify cumulative amount of CO₂ after injection and to predict reservoir pressure for 50 years. The results show that at the end of 50-year CO₂ injection, reservoir pressure increases from 2478 to 2750 psi. The latest pressure remains below the initial pressure (3900 psi) at the beginning of production phase in 2007. With injection rate at 530 tCO₂ per day or 0.19 MtCO₂ per year up to 50 years, the total amount of injected CO₂ in the reservoir is 9.5 Mt. This case study demonstrates that the dolomite reservoir of the Sin PHu Horm field can accommodate CO₂ from constant injection rate at 530 tCO₂ per day or up to 50 years. The findings can guide site selection decisions in Permian carbonate reservoirs for CO₂ storage demonstrations. © 2023

Bone tissue engineering (BTE) is aims to develop advanced strategies to regenerate damaged or diseased bone, through the integration of principles from cellular biology, biomaterials science, and engineering. The vital aspect of these studies includes the design and fabrication of scaffolds that support cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation, ultimately promoting the formation of new bone tissue. Recent developments in scaffold materials have focused on organic, inorganic, and composite biomaterials. Each of these showcasing unique and distinct advantages in terms of biocompatibility, biodegradability, and mechanical strength. Polymers, such as poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA), provide flexibility and degradation profiles, which are conducive to tissue integration. While ceramics, including hydroxyapatite (HA) and β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP), offer mechanical properties similar to native bone. The fusion of organic and inorganic components in composites has yielded scaffolds with enhanced functionality, such as improved osteo-conductivity and controlled degradation rates. Advanced fabrication techniques, particularly electrospinning and 3D printing, have revolutionized scaffold design by enabling precise control over pore size, porosity, and surface architecture, critical parameters for mimicking the extracellular matrix (ECM) of bone. These structural characteristics directly influence cellular behaviors such as migration, proliferation, and differentiation, which are crucial for successful bone regeneration. This review critically evaluates the recent advances in biomaterials for scaffold fabrication, with a focus on optimizing the interplay between material properties and scaffold architecture to improve therapeutic outcomes in bone regeneration. The findings underscore the importance of material selection and scaffold design in BTE and provide actionable insights for both researchers and clinicians in the development of next-generation scaffol

Transportation and Climate change are inextricably linked. As the transport sector is the primary consumer of petroleum products and therefore, contributes a significant share of greenhouse gases (GHGs). Mobile sources share ranges between 25 and 30% of total Egypt’s GHG emissions. So, Egypt is giving a great concern for natural gas vehicles (NGVs) as low-carbon alternative to gasoline/diesel vehicles. This study aims to analyze the economic and the environmental impact of the NGV fleet growth in Egypt with future prospective scenarios, concurrently with governmental strategy based on expansion of compressed natural gas fueling stations infrastructure and incentives for NGV transformation. Egypt’s NGV program led to about 5 Mt CO2 emissions reductions and about 21.57 billion EGP (US$1.4 billion) economic saving since starting up to end of 2021. And implementing of presidential initiative in 2021 to accelerate NGVs led to jumping in CO2 emissions reductions and economic saving by about 40% and 49% of pervious year, respectively. It is observed that scenario no. 1, of NGV adopting percent 15%, is the most fitted business as usual scenario to the presidential initiative and will lead to emissions reduction by about 30 Mt CO2 and economic saving by about 278 billion EGP (US$17.6 billion).
