Nuanced dialects are a linguistic variant that pose several challenges for NLP models and techniques. One of the main challenges is the limited amount of datasets to enable extensive research and experimentation. We propose an approach for efficiently collecting nuanced dialectal datasets that are not only of high quality, but are versatile enough to be multipurpose as well. To test our approach we collect the KIND corpus, which is a collection of fine-grained Arabic dialect data. The data is short texts, and unlike many nuanced dialectal datasets, it is curated manually through social collaboration efforts as opposed to being crawled from social media. The collaborative approach is incentivized through educational gamification and competitions for which the community itself benefits from the open source dataset. Our approach aims to achieve: (1) coverage of dialects from under-represented groups and fine-grained dialectal varieties, (2) provide aligned parallel corpora for translation between Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and multiple dialects to enable translation and comparison studies, (3) promote innovative approaches for nuanced dialect data collection. We explain the steps for the competition as well as the resulting datasets and the competing data collection systems. The KIND dataset is shared with the research community. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

The displacement of a tunnel plays a crucial role in conventional tunneling methods, serving as a key parameter for support requirement. Therefore, analyzing tunnel displacement is important for ensuring safety and optimizing costs by determining the appropriate level of tunnel support and installation time. Numerical analysis methods are commonly employed for assessing tunnel displacement, and two widely recognized approaches used worldwide are the continuum and discontinuum methods. While previous studies have highlighted differences in the analysis results obtained from these two methods, the magnitude of such disparities has not been extensively explored. Hence, the objective of this study is to quantify the extent of variation between the two methods through various scenarios, encompassing unsupported and supported excavated ground. Specifically, the focus is on tunnel displacement and the tensile force generated on axial tunnel supports, such as rock bolts. To facilitate this investigation, three tunnel sections from the Zentrum am Berg, tunnel research centre located in Austria, are utilized. The results show that discontinuum models exhibit higher displacements and higher tensile loads on axial support than continuum numerical models of the same tunnel geometry and equivalent rock masses. We show that discontinuum models can also capture asymmetric behaviour, and thus should be preferentially used in fractured rock masses where displacement of rock blocks dominate the rock mass behaviour. © 2023, The Author(s).

Bedrock layers support large load structures, while Phnom Penh faces limitations in mechanical properties. This research conducted rock testing on sandstone from Chroy Changvar and Dankao districts, both strongly developed zones in Phnom Penh. The fine-grain sandstones were compressed under varying conditions of confining stress of 0 to 6 MPa and pore water pressure of 1 MPa. Permeability was assessed at pore water pressures of 1 MPa and confining stress of 3 MPa. Core rock samples, collected at depths of 43 to 50 m below the surface from both sites, revealed characteristics. The dry and wet density of Chroy Changvar sandstone existed at 2,503 kg/m3 and 2,574 kg/m3, with a permeability value of 1.43∙10-14 m2 of pre-failure rock 1.87∙10-14 m2 showing slightly increase. The maximum peak stress ranged from 11 to 75 MPa. Shear properties were estimated, indicating an internal friction angle of 57-degree, rupture plane angle of 16.5 degrees, and cohesion of 1.6 MPa. Dangkoa siltsotne showed the value of dry and wet densities of 2,682 kg/m3 and 2,699 kg/m3, respectively, with intact rock permeability of 8.63∙10-15 m2 with highly increased in fractured rock permeability of 1.64∙10-12 m2. This rock existed of high stress under compression with the peak stress of 100 MPa to 330 MPa exhibited a brittle-rock type even the increase in confining stress. The internal friction angle of 71-degree, rupture angle of 10 degree, and cohesion of 11.2 MPa. The study provides insights into the contrasting mechanical properties of bedrock of two districts in Phnom Penh. Chroy Chongvar sandstone displayed plasticity, while Dankoa sandstone exhibited brittleness. A destructive earthquake with magnitude Mw 6.5 occurred in Ambon, Indonesia, on 26 September 2019. This earthquake generated an aftershock sequence. In this study, we determined the location of the aftershock sequence using a non-linear algorithm from the Non-Linear Location (NonLinLoc) program. The catalog and waveform data were collected using 11 seismographs from BMKG regional network located around the Maluku archipelago. The data was recorded between 26 September and 18 October 2019. We have manually picked the P-and-S wave phase by using Seisgram2K software. In our preliminary result, we have located about 1,300 events of aftershock sequence with about 8,500 phases of P and S waves. Overall, the location of the focus depth of the aftershock sequence is dominantly distributed in between 5 - 25 km. Approximately ∼70% of the distribution of aftershock locations show a North-South (N-S) oriented pattern from west Seram to Ambon Islands. Meanwhile, about ∼20% of the aftershock's locations are distributed around Ambon Island. Our ongoing and future study is to determine accurate hypocentre location derived from double-difference hypocenter relocation with waveform cross-correlation. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This study investigates the efficiency of injecting CO2 and CH4 in improving oil production from black oil reservoirs. While prior research highlights the effectiveness of these gases in enhancing oil recovery factors, comparing their performance in bulk interaction to their performance in the porous medium is scarce. Furthermore, the impact of the physical state of the injected CO2-liquid, gas, or supercritical-on oil extraction mechanisms still needs to be explored. Hence, our study aims to bridge this gap through a comprehensive experimental analysis of gas-oil interactions in the bulk phase and within porous media. The bulk gas-oil interactions were investigated using a visual Pressure Volume Temperature (PVT) cell. In contrast, the gas-oil interaction within the porous media was investigated using a coreflooding experimental approach. The proposed investigation is designed to evaluate the influence of the permeability on the gas-oil interactions and the effect of the physical state of the injected fluid -liquid, gas, or supercritical - on the gas miscibility in oil. Since viscosity reduction and oil swelling are the primary mechanisms for miscible gas Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), this study focuses on the efficiency of different injected gases and the physical state of CO2 on the swelling factor, saturation pressure alternation, and viscosity reduction. The swelling factor and saturation pressure curves were measured when different molecular percentages of gas above the minimum miscible pressure were mixed with oil. The viscosity reduction effect was calculated by comparing the viscosity of the oil produced from the coreflooding experiment to the viscosity of the original oil. The oil minimum miscible pressure (MMP) of each considered gas in the oil sample was determined based on the oil composition determined by Gas Chromatography (GC) analysis. This paper details the formulation and characterization of a novel nanoparticle system composed of polyethyleneimine (PEI) and dextran sulfate (DS) for direct lithium extraction (DLE) from bulk oilfield brines sourced from North America. Different mass ratios of solutions of PEI and DS at varied concentrations (1 -10wt%) were prepared in the presence of 150 ppm Li concentration to yield nanoparticle systems that electrostatically entrap the Li ions in the solution. The nanoparticles produced were characterized by their size, zeta potential (charge), polydispersity index, and count rate with a particle size and zeta potential analyzer equipment. Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscope (ICP-OES) and Total Organic Content-Total Organic Nitrogen (TOC-TON) analyzer equipment were coupled to analyze the Li entrapment efficiency within the nanoparticle systems. Results indicated that the final pH, size, and charge of the nanoparticles were influenced by the mass ratio of PEI and DS. Particle size exhibited a decreasing trend with increasing PEI: DS mass ratios from 1 to 5, while the opposite trend was observed for mass ratios lower than 1. Zeta potential generally became more positive with higher PEI: DS mass ratios. Meanwhile, negatively charged nanoparticles were observed at lower ratios. The extraction efficiency was optimum between 10 and 9 wt.% concentrations of PEI and DS with positively charged nanoparticle systems exhibiting greater entrapment. The maximum observed entrapment efficiency was approximately 48%, achieved through bilayer deposition. Integrating this innovative nanoparticle-based DLE method into existing lithium treatment processes can significantly enhance lithium recovery rates, either in combination with membrane extraction techniques or as a standalone methodology following the removal of divalent cations in the pretreatment phase. Lithium is the cornerstone of energy transition for Indonesia to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2060 or earlier. This energy transition will drive the Indonesia demand projection for Electric Vehicle Battery and Energy Storage System and in turn will demand much more lithium for this transition effort. Many studies have been conducted to find the sources of lithium, one of them is geothermal brine. Indonesia has enormous geothermal resources, some fields have lithium content that can potentially be extracted. Various methods in the extraction process of lithium from the geothermal brine have been developed, both on laboratory and pilot projects. The geothermal brine is typically pumped to the surface by a geothermal power plant, used for energy generation, and then returned to the underground reservoir via an injection well. Prior to reinjection the geothermal brines contain in the temporary ponds whereas the lithium extraction points may occur here or at any point suitable for the extraction technology. Typically there are three phases in the lithium extraction, like end- to-end process technology solutions, namely 1) Lithium Brine Extraction-depending on the geothermal brines field compositions, pre-treatment may be employed to remove any contaminants or unwanted constituents from the brines, then selective absorbents are used to separate lithium from other elements 2) Concentration with membrane system to concentrate lithium at a desired concentration 3) Deposition using chemical precipitation and purification for saleable lithium production. This paper reviews traditional brine extraction and direct lithium extraction (DLE) in general and specifically in geothermal brine. The study is based on a desktop study and aims to summarize the knowledge, method, technology, and techniques of lithium extraction from geothermal brine that has already been used and to find out which extraction method is suitable for the Indonesian geothermal field. Magnesium alloys containing biocompatible components show tremendous promise for applications as temporary biomedical devices. However, to ensure their safe use as biodegradeable implants, it is essential to control their corrosion rates. In concentrated Mg alloys, a microgalvanic coupling between the α-Mg matrix and secondary precipitates exists which results in increased corrosion rate. To address this challenge, we engineered the microstructure of a biodegradable Mg-Zn-RE-Zr alloy by friction stir processing (FSP), improving its corrosion resistance and mechanical properties simultaneously. The FS processed alloy with refined grains and broken and uniformly distributed secondary precipitates showed a relatively uniform corrosion morphology accompanied with the formation of a stable passive layer on the alloy surface. In vivo corrosion evaluation of the processed alloy in a small animal model showed that the material was well-tolerated with no signs of inflammation or harmful by-products. Remarkably, the processed alloy supported bone until it healed till eight weeks with a low in vivo corrosion rate of 0.7 mm/year. Moreover, we analyzed blood and histology of the critical organs such as liver and kidney, which showed normal functionality and consistent ion and enzyme levels, throughout the 12- week study period. These results demonstrate that the processed Mg-Zn-RE-Zr alloy offers promising potential for osseointegration in bone tissue healing while also exhibiting controlled biodegradability due to its engineered microstructure. The results from the present study will have profound benefit for bone fracture management, particularly in pediatric and elderly patients.

West Java, Indonesia, is located in the northern part of the subduction zone between the Australian and Eurasian plates, with a complex tectonic setting and high seismicity level. In 2016, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and Australia National University (ANU) deployed 85 temporary seismometers to investigate this area. We constructed the shallow crust profile by applying the Ambient Noise Tomography (ANT) method to improve our knowledge of the tectonic condition in West Java. In this research, we used the north-south (NS) and east-west (EW) components to extract the Love waves Green's function. We first rotated the NS and EW daily data series to obtain the transverse component. We then pre-processed the transverse daily data and applied cross-correlation to all station pair data. The daily cross-correlated data is stacked to obtain the Love waves Green's function. The Green's function in this study is clearly seen in the 1-25 s period band. The obtained Green's function will be analyzed further to get the Love waves group velocity which then will be inverted to obtain the shear wave velocity (Vs) profile beneath the study area. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Injecting CO2 into geological formations has become an important process for carbon sequestration to reduce atmospheric CO2 levels and mitigate climate change. Therefore, understanding the impact of CO2 injection on rock mechanical properties is essential for assessing the integrity and safety of storage sites. This study employs nanoindentation to measure variations in rock mechanical properties caused by CO2 injection. Nanoindentation provides localized measurements of hardness and elastic modulus. Results indicate significant alterations of more than 95% reduction in Young's modulus of the carbonate rock samples post-CO2 injection, with implications for the long-term stability of sequestration sites. This research contributes to the development of more accurate models for predicting the mechanical performance of CO2injected carbonate rocks, ultimately enhancing the safety and efficacy of carbon sequestration and enhanced oil recovery using CO2 efforts.
