Acute respiratory d.stress synd.ome (ARd.) contributes to higher mortality world.id.. Human umbilical cord.d.rived.mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) have immunomod.latory and.regenerative potential. However, the effects of hUC-MSCs as an ARd. treatment remain unclear. We investigated.the role of hUC-MSCs in the d.fferentiation of type II alveolar epithelial cells (AECII) by regulating Yes-associated.protein (YAP) in ARd.. Male C57BL/6JNarl mice were intratracheally (i.t.) ad.inistered.lipopolysaccharid. (LPS) to ind.ce an ARd. mod.l, followed.by a single intravenous (i.v.) d.se of hUC-MSCs. hUC-MSCs improved.pulmonary function, d.creased.inflammation on d.y 3, and.mitigated.lung injury by red.cing the lung injury score and.increasing lung aeration (%) in mice on d.y 7 (p < 0.05). hUC-MSCs inactivated.YAP on AECII and.facilitated.cell d.fferentiation by d.creasing Pro-surfactant protein C (Pro-SPC) and.galectin 3 (LGALS3) while increasing pod.planin (T1α) in lungs of mice (p < 0.05). In AECII MLE-12 cells, both coculture with hUC-MSCs after LPS exposure and.the YAP inhibitor, verteporfin, red.ced.Pro-SPC and.LGALS3, whereas the YAP inhibitor increased.T1α expression (p < 0.05). In conclusion, hUC-MSCs ameliorated.lung injury of ARd. and.regulated.YAP to facilitate AECII d.fferentiation. © 2023 The Authors

Making the nanocomposites of metal oxid.s or metal sulfid.s with carbon source materials has a huge impact on the electrochemical d.termination of toxic chemicals. To d.termine the ad.erse sid. effects of the antibiotics, electrochemical sensors have been used.as they can peek into the sensitivity of the d.ug sample. This work has d.ne the sensitive amperometric evaluation of a chloramph.nicol antibiotic by mod.fying the electrod. of tungsten d.sulfid. d.corated.boron carbid.. Here, tungsten d.sulfid. (WS₂) nanosheets and.boron carbid. (B₄C) materials were synthesized.by conventional method. which give a good.amount of yield. The composite was prepared.by the green and.cost-effective sonochemical approach with good.morph.logy. The cond.ctivity of the nanocomposite and.the response to chloramph.nicol were d.termined.by cyclic voltammetry. The sensitivity, limit of d.tection (LOd., and.the linear range were observed.by the highly sensitive amperometric technique. From the amperometric analysis, the prepared.nanocomposite shows nominal LOd.as a 17.4 nM, a broad.linear range (0.025–1134.6 µM), and.good.sensitivity of 1.52 µA µM⁻¹ cm⁻². Practicability of the mod.fied.sensor was stud.ed.in food.and.ph.rmaceutical samples with ad.quate recovery performances. Moreover, the mod.fied.electrod. shows good.stability, repeatability, reprod.cibility, and.anti-interfering properties against the array of food.and.biological interferences. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.

Zebrafish can be used.as a ph.notype-based.fast-screening platform for the d.scovery of skin-whitening prod.cts by observing the formation of melanin in vivo through a d.ssecting microscope. In this stud., we first evaluated.commercial whitening ingred.ents to confirm the potency of the zebrafish mod.l. The zebrafish screening system verified.that verbascosid. and.5 other commonly used.commercial skin-whitening compound.– includ.ng sod.um ascorbate, azelaic acid. transamin, kojic acid. and.PTU- significantly red.ce melanin content in a d.se-d.pend.nt manner. We subsequently cond.cted.preliminary screening of 123 natural sources to id.ntify those with whitening property. Through a two-step screening process, anti-melanogenesis effects of 4 and.9 cand.d.tes at low and.high concentration were verified.respectively. The toxicity, mortality, and.malformation of zebrafish embryo were also evaluated. We further investigated.the components of C. manghas L. and.found.6 major compound., one of which was manghaslin, a compound.known for its melanin-suppressing effect on zebrafish without cytotoxicity. With these properties, manghaslin is a promising cand.d.te as a skin lightening agent or a treatment for melanoma. © 2023 The Authors

Herein, we report on fabrication of d.sprosium-based.metal–organic framework (d.-MOF)@multiwalled.carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) composites mod.fied.with glassy carbon electrod. (d.-MOF@MWCNT/GC) as a working electrod. for Antimalarial d.ug d.tection. d.-MOF@MWCNT composites was prepared.by sonochemical process along with ultrasonication. The composite structure, ph.se purity, morph.logy and.composition of the composites were confirmed.by X-ray d.ffraction, Scanning electron microscope, and.X-ray ph.toelectron spectroscopy. Further, d.@MWCNT composites were d.posited.on a glassy carbon electrod. by d.op casting method. and.used.as an electrod. material to efficiently d.tect Amod.aquine (Ad.) by electrochemical techniques such as CV and.d.V. The as-prepared.d.@MWCNT composite material showed.the oxid.tion peak current of Ad. to be ∼ 60 % higher than other unmod.fied.GC electrod.s and.showed.a low charge transfer resistance (R_ct) of 24 Ω. The d.@MWCNT provid.d.a broad.linear range of 0.4 to 20 µM with a limit of d.tection of 0.377 μM and.sensitivity of 1.817 μA.μM⁻¹ for the d.tection of Ad.. Accord.ng to the ph.stud., the amount of electrons and.protons involved.in the electrochemical processes of Ad. was calculated.and.a plausible mechanism for Ad. electro-oxid.tion was proposed. Thus, the prepared.sensor exhibited.practical usefulness by d.termining the Ad. d.ug in human urine samples. The d.velopment of mod.rn health systems has generated.a large amount of med.cal d.ta. Recent research has shown that d.ta mining technology can d.scover potential patterns from a vast array of med.cal d.ta, provid.ng insight into d.sease and.pred.cting d.sease. Coronary heart d.sease (CHd. is one of the most important research topics in the health field. In recent years, research on CHd.has been extensively stud.ed.however, the accuracy of CHd.pred.ction need. to be improved. Here, a hybrid.pred.ction method.BOSVM combining Bayesian optimization (BO) and.support vector machine (SVM) is proposed.to pred.ct the CHd. In BOSVM, BO aims to ad.ust of SVM parameters for enhancing the accuracy of CHd.pred.ction. BOSVM compares performance of CHd.pred.ction with five forecasting algorithms, includ.ng classification and.regression tree, logistic regression, k-nearest neighbors, Ad.Boost, and.SVM. The experimental results show that the BOSVM has superior pred.ction accuracy than other algorithms in CHd.pred.ction, ind.cating BOSVM can effectively pred.ct CHd. © 2019 IEEE.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary d.sease (COPd. is a major cause of morbid.ty and.mortality world.id., with approxi-mately 70% to 80% of ad.lts with COPd.being und.agnosed. Patients with und.agnosed.COPd.are at increased.risk of poor outcomes and.a worsened.quality of life, making early d.tection a crucial strategy to mitigate the impact of COPd.and.red.ce the burd.n on healthcare systems. In the past d.cad., increased.interest has been focused.on the d.velopment of effective strategies and.instrument for COPd.early d.tection. However, id.ntifying und.agnosed.cases of COPd.is still challenging. Both screening and.case-find.ng approaches have been ad.pted.to id.ntify und.agnosed.COPd. with case-find.ng being recommend.d.by the 2023 Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung d.sease (GOLd. guid.line and.the upd.ted.United.States Preventive Services Task Force (USPTF) recommend.tion. Nonetheless, the approaches, criteria, and.instruments used.for early d.tection of COPd.are varied. However, ad.ances in the taxonomy and.risk factors of COPd.are continuously being investigated. It is important to continuously assess the current state of knowled.e on COPd.early d.tection, given the challenges associated.with id.ntifying und.agnosed.COPd. This review aims to highlight recent ad.ances in early d.tection of COPd. To d.scuss the current challenge and.opportunity in COPd.early d.tection, provid.ng an overview of existing literature on COPd.case-find.ng strategies, includ.ng the approaches, criteria for subjects, and.instruments. Background. Tartrazine (TAT) is a wid.ly used.food.colorant d.e, offering an orange-yellow hue in various prod.cts such as food., cosmetics, and.ph.rmaceuticals. d.spite its popularity, TAT is banned.in several countries d.e to its potential health risks, includ.ng respiratory issues, migraines, and.skin allergies. Moreover, TAT is linked.with ad.erse effects on human ph.siology, includ.ng mutagenicity, biliary cirrhosis, changes in liver and.kid.ey functions, and.neurod.generation at varying d.ses. Consequently, the d.tection of this food.ad.itive is crucial for safeguard.ng human health and.protecting aquatic organisms. Method.: In this stud., a novel sensor was d.veloped.for the d.tection of TAT, utilizing a composite material mad. from nickel ph.sph.d. d.corated.with functionalized.carbon nanofiber (Ni2P@f-CNF). The Ni2P@f-CNF was synthesized.and.characterized.through several techniques, includ.ng X-ray d.ffraction, X-ray ph.toelectron spectroscopy, field.emission-scanning electron microscopy, and.elemental mapping. The composite was then integrated.with a glassy carbon electrod. to create a sensor. The sensor's performance was evaluated.in terms of d.tection limit, linear range, selectivity, sensitivity, reprod.cibility, repeatability, and.long-term stability. Main Find.ngs: The d.veloped.Ni2P@f-CNF composite sensor d.splayed.a lower d.tection limit of 0.011 µM and.a broad.linear range from 0.01 to 1875 µM. Its selectivity and.sensitivity were exceptional, primarily d.e to the catalytic activity of the Ni2P@f-CNF composite toward. TAT. The sensor also d.monstrated.excellent reprod.cibility, repeatability, and.notable long-term stability. The most common construction material used.in Taiwan is concrete, potentially contaminated.by geologic heavy metals (HMs). Younger child.en spend.much time ind.ors, increasing HM exposure risks from household.d.st owing to their behaviors. We evaluated.arsenic (As), cad.ium (Cd., and.lead.(Pb) concentrations in fingernails among 280 preschoolers between 2017 and.2023. We also analyzed.HM concentrations, includ.ng As, Cd. Pb, chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), and.manganese (Mn), in 90 household.d.st and.50 road.d.st samples from a resid.ntial area where child.en lived.between 2019 and.2021 to d.epen the und.rstand.ng of sources and.health risks of exposure to HMs from household.d.st. The average As, Cd. and.Pb concentrations in fingernails were 0.12 ± 0.06, 0.05 ± 0.05, and.0.95 ± 0.77 μg/g, respectively. Soil parent materials, ind.or construction activities, vehicle emissions, and.mixed.ind.or combustion were the pollution sources of HMs in household.d.st. Higher Cr and.Pb levels in household.d.st may pose non-carcinogenic risks to preschoolers. Ad.ressing ind.or construction and.soil parent materials sources is vital for child.en's health. The find.ng of the present survey can be used.for ind.or environmental management to red.ce the risks of HM exposure and.avoid.potential ad.erse health effects for younger child.en. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

Manufacturing three-d.mensional (3d. objects with polymers/bioceramic composite materials has been investigated.in recent years. In this stud., we manufactured.and.evaluated.solvent-free polycaprolactone (PCL) and.beta-tricalcium ph.sph.te (β-TCP) composite fiber as a scaffold.material for 3d.printing. To investigate the optimal ratio of feed.tock material for 3d.printing, the ph.sical and.biological characteristics of four d.fferent ratios of β-TCP compound. mixed.with PCL were investigated. PCL/β-TCP ratios of 0 wt.%, 10 wt.%, 20 wt.%, and.30 wt.% were fabricated. with PCL melted.at 65 °C and.blend.d.with β-TCP with no solvent ad.ed.d.ring the fabrication process. Electron microscopy revealed.an even d.stribution of β-TCP in the PCL fibers, while Fourier transform infrared.spectroscopy d.monstrated.that the biomaterial compound. remained.intact after the heating and.manufacturing process. In ad.ition, ad.ing 20% β-TCP into the PCL/β-TCP mixture significantly increased.hard.ess and.Young’s Mod.lus by 10% and.26.5%, respectively, suggesting that PCL-20 has better resistance to d.formation und.r load. Cell viability, alkaline ph.sph.tase (ALPase) activity, osteogenic gene expression, and.mineralization were also observed.to increase accord.ng to the amount of β-TCP ad.ed. Cell viability and.ALPase activity were 20% higher with PCL-30, while upregulation for osteoblast-related.gene expression was better with PCL-20. In conclusion, PCL-20 and.PCL-30 fibers fabricated.without solvent exhibited.excellent mechanical properties, high biocompatibility, and.high osteogenic ability, making them promising materials for 3d.printing customized.bone scaffold. promptly, sustainably, and.cost-effectively. © 2023 by the authors.

Rheumatoid.arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune inflammatory d.sease affecting approximately 1% of the global population, with a higher prevalence in women than in men. Chronic inflammation and.oxid.tive stress play pivotal roles in the pathogenesis of RA. Anethole, a prominent compound.d.rived.from fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), possesses a spectrum of therapeutic properties, includ.ng anti-arthritic, anti-inflammatory, antioxid.nt, and.tumor-suppressive effects. However, its specific impact on RA remains und.rexplored. This stud. sought to uncover the potential therapeutic value of anethole in treating RA by employing an H2O2-ind.ced.inflammation mod.l with HIG-82 synovial cells. Our results d.monstrated.that exposure to H2O2 ind.ced.the inflammation and.apoptosis in these cells. Remarkably, anethole treatment effectively countered.these inflammatory and.apoptotic processes triggered.by H2O2. Moreover, we id.ntified.the aquaporin 1 (AQP1) and.protein kinase A (PKA) pathway as critical regulators of inflammation and.apoptosis. H2O2 stimulation led.to an increase in the AQP1 expression and.a d.crease in p-PKA-C, contributing to cartilage d.grad.tion. Conversely, anethole not only d.wnregulated.the AQP1 expression but also activated.the PKA pathway, effectively suppressing cell inflammation and.apoptosis. Furthermore, anethole also inhibited.the enzymes responsible for cartilage d.grad.tion. In summary, our find.ngs highlight the potential of anethole as a therapeutic agent for mitigating H2O2-ind.ced.inflammation and.apoptosis in synovial cells, offering promising prospects for future RA treatments. © 2023 Wiley Period.cals LLC.
