Thermochemical two-step H2O/CO2−splitting cycles using perovskite oxid.s of La0.7A0.3Mn0.9Cr0.1O3-δ (A=Ca, Sr, Ba) were examined.in ord.r to prod.ce hyd.ogen/carbon monoxid. using concentrated.solar irrad.ation. Temperature impacts on red.x activity, reactivity and.reaction rate of La0.7A0.3Mn0.9Cr0.1O3-δ were investigated.with various temperature cond.tions. The red.x activities of these perovskites were evaluated.with the same reaction cond.tions and.temperature program. In ad.ition, two-step water-splitting cyclic tests using La0.7A0.3Mn0.9Cr0.1O3-δ, were also examined.for the reactivity and.repeatability of H2 prod.ction at thermal red.ction temperature of 1400 °C and.water spitting temperature of 1000 °C.

Nearly 25% of paed.atric injuries happen d.e to fractures of femur bones, either und.r accid.ntal or inflicted.cond.tions. In the present investigation, static analyses are performed.for fractured.paed.atric femur bones of child.en joined.with bone plates using finite element method.(FEM) approach to find.stresses and.d.formations in the bone and.plate assembly und.r axial compressive and.torsional load.ngs. The investigation aims to suggest the suitable biomaterial for fracture fixation bone plates mod.led.using two recently-d.veloped.biomaterials such as titanium and.magnesium alloys, after stud.ing the stresses and.d.formations at the fracture spots of the paed.atric femur bones of child.en aged.between 1-3 years. The stress-d.formation responses are further analyzed.in relation to ages of the child.en.

Two method. were used.to approximate site-specific biod.grad.tion rates of monoaromatic hyd.ocarbons (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and.xylenes [BTEX]) d.ssolved.in ground.water. Both use d.ta from monitoring wells and.the hyd.ologic properties of the aquifer to estimate a biod.grad.tion rate constant that can be used.in ground.water solute fate and.transport mod.ls. The first method.uses a biologically recalcitrant tracer in the ground.water associated.with the hyd.ocarbon plume to normalize changes in concentration of BTEX und.r anaerobic cond.tions;attenuation of the tracer is attributed.to d.lution, sorption, and.or volatilization. Attenuation of BTEX in excess of the attenuation of the tracer is attributed.to biod.grad.tion, although other processes may affect the observed.rate. The second.method.assumes that the plume has evolved.to a d.namic stead.-state equilibrium. A one-d.mensional analytical solution to the ad.ection-d.spersion equation is used.to extract the rate of attenuation that would.be necessary to prod.ce a stead.-state plume of the configuration found.at the site. Attenuation is attributed.largely to biod.grad.tion because the analytical solution removes the effects of sorption and.d.spersion and.volatilization is assumed.to be minimal. Neither method.fully accounts for the effects of continuing d.ssolution of BTEX in the source area or nonlinear sorption. Therefore, the rates cannot be attributed.fully to biod.grad.tion, but still are useful for ground.water contaminant fate and.transport mod.ling. The method. were applied.to a d.ta set from a JP-4 jet fuel spill at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. In estimates along two separate flow paths, natural attenuation rates for BTEX ranged.from 0.006 to 0.038 d.y (-1), with most rates near 0.02 d.y(1). The rate for benzene ranged.from 0.025 to 0.038 d.y (1). The rates of attenuation of ind.vid.al BTEX compound. as estimated.by the two method. were in close agreement. Ethnoph.rmacological relevance: In trad.tional Taiwanese med.cine, Citrus d.pressa Hayata serves as the raw material of Chen-Pi which has been wid.ly used.to treat respiratory ailments. Scientific investigations have valid.ted.the attributes of C. d.pressa, elucid.ting its valuable properties, includ.ng antioxid.tive, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, neuroprotion, hepatoprotection, and.hypolipid.mic effects. Aim of the stud.: This stud. aims to isolate a universal inhibitor of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein from C. d.pressa and.confirm the mechanism by which these inhibitors d.srupt the bind.ng of the spike protein to hACE2. Materials and.method.: The whole fruit of C. d.pressa was subjected.to ethanol extraction, following by partitioning to obtain water, butanol, and.ethyl acetate fractions. To id.ntify the inhibitory components in citrus fruits, we performed.both the SPR assay and.the SARS-CoV-2 pseud.-virus assays. Subsequently, we employed.a bioassay-guid.d.approach to efficiently isolate and.characterize the bioactive constituents that hind.red.the interaction between the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and.hACE2, using a combination of MPLC and.Semi-preparative HPLC for compound.isolation. ELISA based.spike protein bind.ng assay evaluate the inhibitory activities of the extract and.potential constituents against multiple spike protein variants. To further shed.light on the inhibitory mechanism, cand.d.te inhibitors were valid.ted.through the SPR assay and.molecular d.cking. Results: The crud. extract and.ethyl acetate layer d.rived.from C. d.pressa showed.significant inhibitory activity on SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.4/5, with IC₅₀ of 77.4 μg/mL and.100 μg/mL, respectively. Polylactic acid.(PLA) is extensively utilized.in the fabrication of med.cal d.vices. However, d.e to the limitations imposed.by the size of ad.itive manufacturing platforms, large med.cal d.vices often require segmentation into multiple components for printing, which are then assembled.post-fabrication. In laboratory settings, nuts and.bolts are commonly employed.to join these printed.segments. This method. however, poses significant challenges as the mechanical fasteners can become loose or d.tach entirely d.ring the repetitive movements of large med.cal d.vices. Consequently, enhancing the joining technology for printed.parts to form larger med.cal d.vices has emerged.as a critical area of research. The primary goal of this stud. is to improve the joint strength of PLA polymer rod. through ultrasound.assisted.rotary friction weld.ng (UARFW). Notably, the proposed.technique aligns with sustainable d.velopment goals by offering high energy efficiency and.minimizing environmental impact. The bend.ng strength of the weld.d.joints is significantly enhanced.because the ultrasonic waves facilitate the flow of molten material within the weld.joint d.ring UARFW. The improvement in bend.ng strength is influenced.by the positioning of the ultrasonic oscillator. Optimal results are achieved.when the ultrasonic oscillator is positioned.at 5 mm along the Z-axis of the CNC lathe, lead.ng to an approximate 97% increase in bend.ng strength d.e to enhanced.molten material flow. Fracture analysis reveals that failures occur within the base material rather than at the weld.interface, ind.cating that the weld.interface possesses superior strength compared.to the base material. Ad.itionally, the surface hard.ess of the weld.interface increases by up to 25.7% compared.to the surface hard.ess achieved.with conventional rotary friction weld.ng without ultrasonic-assisted.micro-vibration. The d.screpancy between the maximum temperatures of the weld.bead.obtained.from numerical simulations

Purpose: This stud. aims to d.termine the effects of perioperative d.xmed.tomid.ne infusion (Pd.) on Asian patients und.rgoing bariatric–metabolic surgery (BMS), focusing on the need.for pain med.cations and.management of postoperative nausea and.vomiting (PONV), and.to investigate the association with these variables, includ.ng patients’ characteristics and.BMS d.ta. Materials and.Method.: A retrospective review of prospectively collected.d.ta was cond.cted.in an Asian weight management center from August 2016 to October 2021. A total of 147 native patients with severe obesity were enrolled. All patients were informed.of the full support of perioperative pain med.cations for BMS. The pain numeric rating scale scores, events of PONV, need. for pain med.cations, and.the associated.patients’ characteristics were analyzed. A p-value of < 0.05 was consid.red.statistically significant. Furthermore, to verify the effects of perioperative usage of d.xmed.tomid.ne for BMS, a systematic review with meta-analysis of currently available rand.mized.control trials was performed. Results: Among the 147 enrolled.patients, 107 und.rwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and.40 und.rwent laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. Pd. has been used.as an ad.unct multimod.l analgesia for BMS in our institution since June 2017 (group d.n = 114). In comparison with those not ad.inistered.with perioperative d.xmed.tomid.ne (group C;n = 33), lower pain numeric rating scale scores (2.52 ± 2.46 vs. 4.27 ± 2.95, p = 0.007) in the postanesthesia care unit, fewer PONV (32.46% vs. 51.52%;p = 0.046), and.infrequent need. of ad.itional pain med.cations (19.47% vs. 45.45%;p = 0.003) were observed.in group d. Multivariable analysis d.monstrated.that type II d.abetes mellitus was correlated.with the d.creased.need.of pain med.cations other than Pd. (p = 0.035). Moreover, d.xmed.tomid.ne seemed.to have a better analgesic effect for patients with longer surgical time based.on our meta-analysis. Conclusion:

James H. Heil is commissioner of waste management for the town of Brookhaven (Department of Waste Management Town of Brookhaven 3233 Rte. 112 Medford NY 11763). Heil received a B.S. from Manhattan College and an M.S. from New York University in civil engineering and is a licensed professional engineer in New York. He is a former president of the New York State Solid Waste Management Association. John A. Stiff d.agrams arc a multivariate method.of analysis used.to d.scribe the chemical state of ground.water. The use of Stiff d.agrams to d.scribe multiconstituent contamination sites, such as land.ills, has d.stinct ad.antages over single constituent analyses. Problems associated.with trad.tional Stiff d.agram analyses, such as d.agram attentuation, can be ad.ressed.by allowing the scale of the d.agram to vary with the ionic strength of the analyzed.sample. The use of these slid.ng scale Stiff d.agrams reveals the chemical slate of the ground.water over wid. ranges of constituent concentrations and.thus allows for sensitive and.soph.sticated.d.pictions of complicated.contamination sites in a fashion that is extremely d.fficult to replicate with single constituent analyses. The electrochemical nitrogen red.ction reaction (NRR) is an attractive process for next-generation ammonia synthesis;therefore, id.ntifying a suitable catalyst for this reaction is critical. In recent years, transition-metal d.chalcogenid.s (TMd.) and.their Janus structures have gained.significant attention because of their outstand.ng catalytic properties. However, the synthesis of Janus TMd. remains challenging, and.exposing their active sites is d.fficult when using a low-d.mensional structure to improve the catalytic activity. To d.te, relatively little research has been cond.cted.in this area. Herein, emerging Janus WSeS/WSe2 heterostructure nanowalls are systematically explored. These nanowalls are used.as a nitrogen fixation catalyst in electrolytes. The nanowalls d.monstrate a significant NH3 yield.rate and.Farad.ic efficiency of 13.97 µg h-mgcat−1 and.35.24% at −0.3 V in 0.1 m HCl, as well as 15.96 µg h-mgcat−1 and.40.2% in 0.1 M Na2SO4. This stud. presents an in-d.pth analysis of the properties of Janus WSeS/WSe2 heterostructure nanowalls and.a conceptual framework for linking TMd.based.catalysts and.the NRR. © 2023 Wiley-VCH GmbH.

He obtained his B.A. Sc. and M.A.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering (summa cum laude) from the University of Ottawa Ottawa Ontario Canada in 1987 and 1989 respectively. Mr So was a research engineer in the University of Ottawa from January 1989 to October 1991 his research interests included CAD techniques of microwave circuits and numerical methods for electromagnetic wave modelling. He specialized in the development of electromagnetic engineering CAD software and successfully implemented a number of electromagnetic wave simulators based on the two-dimensional and three-dimensional transmission-line matrix methods. From August 1990 to February 1991 he accompanied Professor W. J. R. Hoefer to Rome Italy and Sophia Antiopolas France. During that time he implemented a parallel version of the 3D-TLM simulator for the CM-2 Connection Machine using C-Star and X Windows Library. He is a research engineer and a Ph.D. student at the University of Victoria Victoria British Columbia Canada. He ported the 2D- and 3D-TLM simulators to DECmpp 1200 massively parallel computer using MPL C and C++. He also combined OSA90/hope a commercially available microwave CAD program with a 2D-TLM simulation module for geometry optimization using the Datapipe technique of OSA90/hope. Recently he has developed a distributed client-server computing technique for the TLM method this technique could accelerate the TLM simulation by more than an order of magnitude.
