ANdREWS, FRANK A.The author graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in December 1941. He served aboard destroyers and submarines during World War II
and was subsequently commanding officer of USS BARRACUDA (K-1) and USS HARDER (SS 568). He was assigned in 1954 as Submarine Program Officer at the David Taylor Model Basin served as a Submarine Division Commander and became head of the Science Department at the U.S. Naval Academy in 1959. He was Commander Submarine Development Group II and headed the search operations at the site of the THRESHER disaster in 1963 and 1964. His decorations include the Silver Star Bronze Star and Navy and Marine Corps Medal. Captain Andrews received a Ph.D. degree in Physics from Yale University in 1950. He retired from the Navy in 1964 and is currently a Research Professor at Catholic University Washington D.C.

The program explores the relationship between styles of marital communication and modes of responding to a variety of developmental situations including courtship the first pregnancy and the management of the firstborn infant.

She has taught in secondary schools and colleges and she has been director of two NDEA institutes and visiting professor at others. Dr. Birkmaier has been a continuing consultant to the MLA Foreign Language Program and to the U.S. Office of Education and she is currently a member of the Advisory Board of the MLA/ERIC Clearinghouse on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. She is a member of AATF AATSEEL AATSP MLA NEA/DFL DAVI ASCD and has been Secretary of AATG. Author and editor of numerous guides and books on FL learning and curriculum development she has also contributed significant articles to many journals and has served as co-editor of theDFL Bulletin. DALE L. LANGE (Ph.D.
University of Minnesota) is Assistant Professor of Foreign Language Education at the University of Minnesota and serves as Chairman of the Modern Language Department at University High School. His Ph.D. thesis involved research on pre-reading instruction. He has co-authored with Emma Marie Birkmaier an article entitled “Foreign Language Instruction” inReview of Educational Research37 (1967). During the summer of 1966 he was co-director of an NDEA Institute for Teacher Trainers at the University of Minnesota and has served on the staff of the Stanford University NDEA Institute in Germany during the summers of 1961 and 1962. He is a consultant to the Upper Midwest Regional Educational Laboratory (UMREL) and is a member of the ACTFL Bibliography Committee.

1909 in Charlottesville Virginia. Graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.S. in electrical engineering in 1930 and Ph.D. in physics 1934. Taught physics at the University of Alabama and Furman University until 1944 when he joined the staff of the Harvard Underwater Sound Laboratory. At the end of the War moved to Penn State as project engineer in the newly established Ordnance Research Laboratory and became Assistant Director in 1947 and Director in 1952. In these capacities he has conducted and guided research and development in various fields related to the Navy's torpedo program including acoustics electronics hydrodynamics homing systems control and propulsion. He is a member of AIEE ASEE American Physical Society American Ordnance Association Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Xi.

JR. USN attended the U. S. Naval Academy Preparatory School the U. S. Coast Guard Academy and the University of Virginia where in 1939 he received the S.B. degree in Engineering and in 1940 the degree of Electrical Engineer. In 1942 he was graduated with the S.M. degree in Communication Engineering from Cruft Laboratory Harvard University and that summer completed the Navy Course in Radar Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Subsequently for several years he was engaged in lecturing to officers of the Armed Forces assigned to the radar schools at Harvard and Princeton Universities. He has had four tours of duty in the Electronics Design and Development Division Bureau of Ships two at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratoryone at the Signal Corps Engineering Laboratories (Evans Signal Laboratory)and one at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. His experience includes amateur
naval and broadcasting operation. In 1951 Commander Harrison was selected for training in Advanced Science at Harvard University under sponsorship of the Office of Naval Research. This program led to the M. Eng. degree in 1952 and Ph.D. degree in Applied Physics in 1954. Commander Harrison is presently Electronics Officer on the Staff of Commander Operational Development Force. He is a member of several societies and associations including the Harvard Chapter of the Society of Sigma Xi.
