Background: Receiving hemodialysis treatment makes end-stage renal disease (ESRd) patients highly vulnerable amidst the COVId-19 pandemic. Hence, their kidney disease quality of life (KdQOL) is affected. We aimed to examine the association between fear of COVId-19 (FCoV-19) and KdQOL, and the effect modification of Health literacy (HL) on this association. Material and Methods: A survey was conducted at 8 hospitals from July 2020 to March 2021 on 972 patients. data collection includes socio-demographic factors, clinical parameters, HL, digital healthy diet literacy (ddL), hemodialysis diet knowledge (HdK), FCoV-19, suspected COVId-19 symptoms (S-COVId-19-S), and KdQOL. Results: Higher HL scores B = 0.13 (95% CI = 0.06–0.21, p = 0.001) and HdK scores B = 0.58 (95% CI = 0.31–0.85, p = 0.001) were associated with higher KdQOL scores. Whereas, S-COVId-19-S B = −6.12 (95% CI = −7.66 to–4.58, p = 0.001) and FCoV-19 B = −0.91 (95% CI = −1.03 to–0.80, p = 0.001) were associated with lower KdQOL scores. Notably, higher HL scores significantly attenuate the negative impact of FCoV-19 on overall KdQOL and the kidney disease component summary. Conclusions: In hemodialysis patients, FCoV-19 and S-COVId-19-S were associated with a lower KdQOL. Health literacy significantly mitigates the negative impact of FCoV-19 on KdQOL. Strategic public health interventions to improve HL are suggested to protect patient’s KdQOL during the pandemic. © 2024 The Author(s). For any subset Z ⊆ Q, consider the set SZ of subfields L ⊆ Q which contain a co-infinite subset C ⊆ L that is universally definable in L such that C ∩ Q = Z. Placing a natural topology on the set Sub(Q) of subfields of Q, we show that if Z is not thin in Q, then SZ is meager in Sub(Q). Here, thin and meager both mean "small", in terms of arithmetic geometry and topology, respectively. For example, this implies that only a meager set of fields L have the property that the ring of algebraic integers OL is universally definable in L. The effect of starch-hydrocolloid interaction on starch digestibility, pasting and physicochemical properties: A review

In complex food matrix, blending starch with non-starch hydrocolloids such as gum arabic, xanthan gum, guar gum, carrageenan, locust bean gum, and pectin may impact starch digestibility, pasting and physicochemical properties. The starch-hydrocolloids blending have specific application in the food product as an emulsifier, gelling agent thickener, stabilizer and inhibiting formation of ice and sugar crystal. As a thickener, hydrocolloid can increase the viscosity of food products and inhibit the accessibility of α-amylase to the starch granules. Effect of hydrocolloid on starch digestibility, pasting and physicochemical properties depends on starch source, type and concentration of hydrocolloid, and method of preparation starch-hydrocolloid mixture. This review summarized several studies about the effect of starch-hydrocolloid interaction on the starch digestibility, pasting and physicochemical properties. Furthermore, the mechanism of starch-hydrocolloid interaction and their applications in food product are also discussed. The pupose of this review is to provide information of several applications and recent utilization trend of starch-hydrocolloid blend in food systems.

Coronaviruses (CoV) are highly pathogenic single-strand RNA viruses. CoV infections cause fatal respiratory symptoms and lung injuries in humans and significant economic losses in livestock. Since the SARS-2 outbreak in 2019, the highly conserved main protease (M), also termed 3-chymotrypsin-like protease (3CL), has been considered an attractive drug target for treating CoV infections. M mediates the proteolytic cleavage of eleven sites in viral polypeptides necessary for virus replication. Here, we report that disulfiram, an FdA-approved drug for alcoholic treatment, exhibits a broad-spectrum inhibitory effect on CoV Ms. Analytical ultracentrifugation and circular dichroism analyses indicated that disulfiram treatment blocks the dimeric formation of SARS and PEdV Ms and decreases the thermostability of SARS, SARS-2, and PEdV Ms, whereas it facilitates the dimerization and stability of MERS M. Furthermore, mass spectrometry and structural alignment revealed that disulfiram targets the Cys44 residue of Ms, which is located at the substrate entrance and close to the catalytic His41. In addition, molecular docking analysis suggests that disulfiram conjugation interferes with substrate entry to the catalytic center. In agreement, mutation of Cys44 modulates the disulfiram sensitivity of CoV Ms. Our study suggests a broad-spectrum inhibitory function of disulfiram against CoV Ms.

Polynomial Root-Finding and Algebraic Eigenvalue Problem

Univariate polynomial root-finding has been studied for four millennia and very intensively in the last decades. Our new near-optimal root-finders approximate all complex zeros of a polynomial almost as fast as one accesses its coefficients with the precision required for the solution within a prescribed error bound. The root-finders work even for a black box polynomial, defined by an oracle (black box subroutine) for its evaluation rather than by its coefficients. Hence they (i) support approximation of the eigenvalues of a matrix in a record Las Vegas expected bit operation time and (ii) are particularly fast for polynomials that can be evaluated fast such as the sum of a few shifted monomials of the form (x−c)d or a Mandelbrot-like polynomial defined by a recurrence. Our divide and conquer algorithm of ACM STOC 1995 is the only other known near-optimal polynomial root-finder, but it extensively uses the coefficients, is quite involved, and has never been implemented, while according to extensive numerical experiments with standard test polynomials already a slower initial implementation of our new root-finders competes with user’s choice package of root-finding subroutines MPSolve and supersedes it more and more significantly as the degree of a polynomial grows large. We elaborate upon design and analysis of our algorithms, comment on their potential heuristic acceleration, and briefly cover polynomial root-finding by means of functional iterations. Cyclopent-2-enone bearing natural products possess anti-inflammatory, cytotoxic, antiproliferative, and antimicrobial activities attributed to the presence of a Michael acceptor enone group acting as a bait for protein targets. To explore the biological activity of synthetic small molecules bearing the cyclopent-2-enone moiety, a collection of 4-substituted cyclopent-2-enones ( 3 a – 3 i ) was prepared synthetically using Lewis acid-catalyzed Mukaiyama-Michael reaction (MMR) in modest to high yields. These derivatives were screened for their effect on inflammatory response mediators, namely Nrf2, NF-κB, and IL-6 through cell-based reporter assays. The results show that 5-(4-oxocyclopent-2-en-1-yl)furan-2(5 H )-one ( 3 g ) is a potent Nrf2 activator in HaCaT cells. The mechanism of Nrf2 activation by 3 g was investigated through an MS/MS-directed proteomic analysis and have shown the formation of a Michael adduct via cysteine-613 on Keap1, an inhibitor of Nrf2. density functional theory calculations show favorable Michael adduct formation between 3 g and the truncated Keap1 tripeptide Pro-Cys613-Ala at the β-carbon of the cyclopent-2-enone moiety. On the other hand, the derivative 4-(2-oxo-2-phenylethyl)cyclopent-2-en-1-one ( 3 a ) exhibited selective Nrf2 inhibition in the cancer cell line Huh7, and inhibitory activity along with 3 g against NF-κB, and IL-6 in RAW 264.7 cells. This points to the cyclopent-2-enone group being an effective scaffold for anti-inflammatory drug designs.

The Fermi-Löwdin orbital (FLO) approach to the Perdew-Zunger self-interaction correction (PZ-SIC) to density functional theory (dFT) is described and an improved approach to the problem of optimizing the Fermi-orbitals in order to minimize the dFT-SIC total energy is introduced. To illustrate the use of the FLO-SIC method, results are given for several applications involving problems where self-interaction errors are pronounced.

Air contamination is one of the primary issues in the world. PM 10 is the major pollutant having highly affecting in human wellbeing. Numerous scientists around the world create many classifications and prediction model to conjecture PM 10 for alarm people in their country. Consistently from February to May in the northern part of Thailand, there is the exhaust cloud issue of PM 10 yet there are few pieces of research in the air pollution utilizing the up to date data set. By observing this issue, refreshed information between 2011 and 2017 are utilized. Only two of the data from stations in Lampang and phayao were selected for this study. due to the minimal data loss problem. The collective neural networks system is selected to create an appropriate classification model. The average accuracy of prediction results in this work is 92.51% which higher than related works in a similar topic.
