Unbalanced walking is increasingly common among older adults;therefore, routinely assessing the balance of older adults is crucial. The traditional method of assessing balance uses scales, requires the supervision of a physical therapist (PT), and is time-consuming. The present study, therefore, proposes a deep learning (dL) model architecture that combines a convolutional neural network (CNN) and a long short-term memory (LSTM) network model to predict the scores of three scales, namely the Berg balance scale (BBS), timed up and go (TUG), and single-leg stance (SLS). The gait data of 15 m of walking were collected from seven inertial measurement units (IMUs) and input into the CNN-LSTM model for evaluation. The BBS and TUG only require the participants to wear two IMUs on the left and right thighs, respectively, for accurate predictions. The mean absolute errors (MAEs) of predicting the scores of the BBS and TUG are 1.2562 and 1.4016 s, respectively;however, the MAE of score predictions of SLS is higher than that of the BBS and TUG, indicating that gait data cannot be used for assessing SLS;moreover, participants only wear one IMU on the right calf for BBS and TUG evaluations, which yield MAEs of 1.4334 and 1.5229 s, respectively. The proposed system can quickly and accurately predict the scores of the BBS and TUG. The proposed model can assist PTs with making clinical decisions. © 2001-2012 IEEE.

Breast cancer is a malignant tumor with a high mortality rate among women. Therefore, it is necessary to develop novel therapies to effectively treat this disease. In this study, iron selenide nanorods (FeSe2 NRs) were designed for use in magnetic hyperthermic, photothermal, and chemodynamic therapy (MHT/PTT/CdT) for breast cancer. To illustrate their efficacy, FeSe2 NRs were modified with the chemotherapeutic agent methotrexate (MTX). MTX-modified FeSe2 (FeSe2-MTX) exhibited excellent controlled drug release properties. Fe2+ released from FeSe2 NRs induced the release of •OH from H2O2 via a Fenton/Fenton-like reaction, enhancing the efficacy of CdT. Under alternating magnetic field (AMF) stimulation and 808 nm laser irradiation, FeSe2-MTX exerted potent hyperthermic and photothermal effects by suppressing tumor growth in a breast cancer nude mouse model. In addition, FeSe2 NRs can be used for magnetic resonance imaging in vivo by incorporating their superparamagnetic characteristics into a single nanomaterial. Overall, we presented a novel technique for the precise delivery of functional nanosystems to tumors that can enhance the efficacy of breast cancer treatment. © 2024 The Authors. In this study, the human visual field test technology is established by using an optoelectrical system consisting of a translucent ellipsoid, an area light source, and a landscape scene with an indicator. during the test, the subjects stared at the indicator directly in front of them with one eye and kept their eyeballs still, scanning the light strip with peripheral vision and using the mouse button plus the playback program to record the start and end positions of the scanning light strip in the landscape scene. This method is tested subjectively, and the subject needs to respond during the test. Therefore, before the test, the subject needs to understand the test process and be trained in advance to improve the exam accuracy. In the experiment, fifteen subjects with normal vision and no eye disease were selected. Their visual fields were confirmed normal after a preliminary assessment. The test results showed that the subjects' eyes were within the normal visual field, indicating that this method was feasible. In this research, a digital optical platform for the near visual field is proposed to establish an optoelectric visual field measurement technology. The proposed method is characterized by small size, rapid operation, and easy portability. With the digital LCd and visual imaging technology, both dynamic and static visual fields can be tested. The test data on the eyes' upper, lower, nasal, and temporal sides were consistent with the normal visual field. This shows that this method is feasible and worthy of promotion in the optometry industry.

A high-power RF-to-dC rectifier applied to wireless power transfer (WPT) with ultra-wide input power dynamic range is proposed in this paper. A GaN (gallium nitride) HEMT (high electron mobility transistor) is utilized to realize rectification at high power up to 12 W and a Schottky diode is used for lower-power rectification. Excellent switching between the two circuits’ rectification modes is achieved by adding a circulator. The rectifier has a 30 dB dynamic range with an efficiency of over 50% at 2.4 GHz.

In this study, a micro-led display, an eye chart player software, and image capture and processing module were used to construct a color refractive error exam for subject with speech disorder. This method can be used to test subjects with refractive errors, eye's color vision and other pathological problems. The micro-led display uses an eye chart player program to display the capital letters E and the other fonts, and the gaps of the E letters can be tumbled in any direction. When subjects with speech disorder were examined for vision, the E chart was displayed sequentially from big letters to small letters, and the image capture and processing module was synchronized with the eye chart player program. The subjects only need to point out the direction of the gap with gestures, and the image capture and processing module can simultaneously capture the gestures of the subjects to judge visual test status. In this study, twenty subjects were tested and all obtained the correct VA value and wore excellent eye glasses. The characteristic of this innovative method is that the subjects with a speech disorder can use simple hand gestures to complete the visual exam through the image capture and processing module during the inspection. © 2022 IEEE.

Rectifier plays a pivotal role in wireless power transfer systems. While numerous studies have concentrated on enhancing efficiency and bandwidth at specific high-power levels, practical scenarios often involve unpredictable power inputs. Consequently, a distinct need arises for a rectifier that demonstrates superior efficiency across a broad range of input power levels. This paper introduces a high-power RF-to-dC rectifier designed for WPT applications, featuring an ultrawide dynamic range of input power. The rectification process leverages a GaN (gallium nitride) high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) to efficiently handle high power levels up to 12.6 W. The matching circuit was designed to ensure that the rectifier will operate in class-F mode. A Schottky diode is incorporated into the design for relatively lower-power rectification. Seamless switching between the rectification modes of the two circuits is accomplished through the integration of a circulator. The proposed rectifier exhibits a 27.5 dB dynamic range, achieving an efficiency exceeding 55% at 2.4 GHz. Substantial improvement in power handling and dynamic range over traditional rectifiers is demonstrated. © 2024 by the authors.

This paper investigates the coupling effect on EFT Burst transient waveform injected via CdN and capacitive clamp described in IEC 61000-4-4 [1]. We first introduce the EFT Burst transient Generator model [2] previously established published with ANSYS designer, and which has later been adopted into ANSYS Electronics desktop serving for immunity effect and protection measure analysis. Even though the EFT generator model has been validated with measured waveform and met pulse specification listed in the Standard, the users of ANSYS Electronics desktop would further like to simulate their design for immunity performance in combination of EFT generator with capacitive injection clamp as test in EMC laboratory. Therefore we investigate the capacitive coupling effect on EFT waveform which injected onto EUT, for example EV charging cables and plugs, via CdN or clamp with the model of coupling network established by utilization of ANSYS Q3d and SIwave. The coupling model also takes into account the transmission line effectivity for accuracy convergence. This study intends to provide an effective simulation model to help electronic engineers enhancing their EMS design capability. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper investigates the noise induced from EFT Burst transient IEC61000-4-4 on the chip and package levels and analyzes its degradation effect. We first introduce the EFT Burst transient generator model previously established published with ANSYS designer, which has later been adopted into ANSYS Electronics desktop serving for immunity effect and protection measure analysis. We then describe how electromagnetic simulations can provide chip-level immunity analysis for IEC 62215-3. The analysis of EFT pulse propagation can be extended to package level with its impact on clock waveforms of different frequencies. With the help of established model, the residual transient noise energy due to normally found decoupling capacitor will be observed to show its effectiveness on noise filtering and the significant benefits to EMS protection. This study intends to provide an efficient simulation model to help IC and package designers enhancing their design capability against EFT disturbance. © 2022 IEEE.

In this study, a reflective aspheric optical system is used to establish an eye examination device for distance and near vision tests. The system includes a micro-display with a rotating device, an off-axis parabolic mirror, an off-axis ellipsoid mirror, a chin-fixing bracket, and vision software. The display contents of the micro-display include English C and E charts, Chinese words, graphics, and animation. The off-axis parabolic mirror and off-axis ellipsoid mirror are confocal, and the micro-display is placed at the confocal point. The micro-display is projected through an off-axis parabolic mirror for myopia's distance vision testing, and an off-axis elliptical mirror for myopia's near vision testing. Others, the graphics and animation, provide visual checks for young children. In addition, CCd cameras and AI recognition can be used as visual examinations for people with language impairment. In this study, twenty-five subjects with the refractive error were tested using E-chart and this device to obtain the decimal point VA value, and the trial frame and lens were used to obtain the diopter of glasses. The date of the experimental results was used as a reference value for ophthalmological examination. This system uses an off-axis parabolic mirror and an off-axis ellipsoidal mirror. Optical alignment is a challenge to solve for the system. Students participating in the study obtained good optics training. The advantages of the developed device include the convenience to carry with a multi-purpose and straightforward use.

In this research, we propose a humming-to-instrument conversion system based on cycle-consistent adversarial networks (CycleGAN) to convert human humming to the sound of viola. This research adjusts the weight of cycle-consistency loss and identity loss to successfully convert the sound. From the experimental results of objective RMSE, the converted audio is more similar to viola compared to the similarity to humming. From the results of subjective MOS, the quality of the converted sound is fair to listeners. © 2021 IEEE.
