People increasingly prioritize a balanced diet to enhance well-being, yet making informed dietary choices remains challenging amidst the abundance of options. To address this, we developed a meal image recognition and healthy meal combination recommender system, integrating generative artificial intelligence (AI). Convolutional neural networks were used for precise meal image recognition to identify diverse food items. The generative AI-augmented recommendation engine offers personalized meal suggestions aligned with nutritional goals and dietary preferences, utilizing a nutrition knowledge base to ensure overall well-being. The system's feasibility was validated, illustrating its excellence in meal recognition accuracy, recommendation diversity, and user engagement. By integrating generative AI, the system shows its potential to enhance dietary recommendations and public health.

Rectifier plays a pivotal role in wireless power transfer systems. While numerous studies have concentrated on enhancing efficiency and bandwidth at specific high-power levels, practical scenarios often involve unpredictable power inputs. Consequently, a distinct need arises for a rectifier that demonstrates superior efficiency across a broad range of input power levels. This paper introduces a high-power RF-to-dC rectifier designed for WPT applications, featuring an ultrawide dynamic range of input power. The rectification process leverages a GaN (gallium nitride) high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) to efficiently handle high power levels up to 12.6 W. The matching circuit was designed to ensure that the rectifier will operate in class-F mode. A Schottky diode is incorporated into the design for relatively lower-power rectification. Seamless switching between the rectification modes of the two circuits is accomplished through the integration of a circulator. The proposed rectifier exhibits a 27.5 dB dynamic range, achieving an efficiency exceeding 55% at 2.4 GHz. Substantial improvement in power handling and dynamic range over traditional rectifiers is demonstrated. © 2024 by the authors.

Background: Fungicides, like carbendazim, have effects on male fertility. There have been sufficient studies conducted on certain chemical compounds to indicate a selective action at the epididymis level. To prevent contamination of food products with fungicides, most of the governments have established rules for the use of fungicides. However, even though this type of fungicide is primarily used in agriculture. More probably, it's contaminated with fruits and vegetables. In particular, carbendazim is one of the major fungicides in the agricultural usage Methods: This research work developed a europium vanadate (EuVO4) nanoparticle decorated carbon nanofiber (CNF) composites by hydrothermal-sonochemical approach. Based on this composite, Carbendazim sensing is developed through electrochemical oxidation based on EuVO4/f-CNF modified Glassy Carbon Electrode (GCE). By combining EuVO4 and f-CNF with the GCE, carbendazim detection can be highly effective. GCEs are rigid, making them ideal for depositing EuVO4/f-CNF, while their expansive surface area makes it possible to immobilize a greater amount of EuVO4/f-CNF, which could increase the Carbendazim sensing ability of the resulting modified GCEs with EuVO4/f-CNF. Main Findings: : The carbendazim sensing was actualized by the electrocatalytic oxidation of carbendazim on the composite modified electrode, and it is demonstrating a linear range of 0.125 to 23.875 – 33.81 to 131.375 µM with a remarkably limit of detection of 0.00612 µM. The EuVO4/f-CNF /GCE also showcased an excellent degree of stability, retaining 96.5 % of its initial activity even after 30 days. This research highlights the potential of EuVO4/f-CNF modified GCEs as robust, and efficient platform for the carbendazim detection under electrochemical approach. © 2024 Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers

In this study, the human visual field test technology is established by using an optoelectrical system consisting of a translucent ellipsoid, an area light source, and a landscape scene with an indicator. during the test, the subjects stared at the indicator directly in front of them with one eye and kept their eyeballs still, scanning the light strip with peripheral vision and using the mouse button plus the playback program to record the start and end positions of the scanning light strip in the landscape scene. This method is tested subjectively, and the subject needs to respond during the test. Therefore, before the test, the subject needs to understand the test process and be trained in advance to improve the exam accuracy. In the experiment, fifteen subjects with normal vision and no eye disease were selected. Their visual fields were confirmed normal after a preliminary assessment. The test results showed that the subjects' eyes were within the normal visual field, indicating that this method was feasible. In this research, a digital optical platform for the near visual field is proposed to establish an optoelectric visual field measurement technology. The proposed method is characterized by small size, rapid operation, and easy portability. With the digital LCd and visual imaging technology, both dynamic and static visual fields can be tested. The test data on the eyes' upper, lower, nasal, and temporal sides were consistent with the normal visual field. This shows that this method is feasible and worthy of promotion in the optometry industry.

In this study, a series of Al complexes bearing amidates, thioamidates, ureidates, and thioureidates were synthesized and their catalytic activity for ϵ-caprolactone (CL) polymerization was evaluated. SPr-Al exhibited a higher catalytic activity than OPr-Al (3.2 times as high for CL polymerization;[CL] : [SPr-Al] : [BnOH] = 100 : 0.5 : 2;[SPr-Al] = 10 mM, conv. = 93% after 14 min at 25 °C), and USCl-Al exhibited a higher catalytic activity than UCl-Al (4.6 times as high for CL polymerization;[CL] : [USCl-Al] : [BnOH] = 100 : 0.5 : 2;[USCl-Al] = 10 mM, conv. = 90% after 15 min at 25 °C). Regardless of whether aluminum amidates or ureidates were present, thioligands improved the polymerization rate of aluminum catalysts. density functional theory calculations revealed that the eight-membered ring [SPr-AlOMe2]2 decomposed into the four-membered ring SPr-AlOMe2. However, [OPr-AlOMe2]2 did not decompose because of its strong bridging Al-O bond. The overall activation energy required for CL polymerization was lower when using [SPr-AlOMe2]2 (18.1 kcal mol−1) as a catalyst than when using [OPr-AlOMe2]2 (23.9 kcal mol−1). This is because the TS2a transition state of SPr-AlOMe2 had a more open coordination geometry with a small N-Al-S angle (72.91°) than did TS3c of [OPr-AlOMe2]2, the crowded highest-energy transition state of [OPr-AlOMe2]2 with a larger N-Al-O angle (99.63°). © 2023 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Mycobacteria are causative agents of tuberculosis (TB), which is a global health concern. drug-resistant TB strains are rapidly emerging, thereby necessitating the urgent development of new drugs. Two-component signal transduction systems (TCSs) are signaling pathways involved in the regulation of various bacterial behaviors and responses to environmental stimuli. Applying specific inhibitors of TCSs can disrupt bacterial signaling, growth, and virulence, and can help combat drug-resistant TB. We conducted a comprehensive pharmacophore-based inhibitor screening and biochemical and biophysical examinations to identify, characterize, and validate potential inhibitors targeting the response regulators phoP and MtrA of mycobacteria. The constructed pharmacophore model phar-PR-n4 identified effective inhibitors of formation of the phoP–dNA complex: ST132 (IC50 = 29 ± 1.6 µM) and ST166 (IC50 = 18 ± 1.3 µM). ST166 (Kd = 18.4 ± 4.3 μM) and ST132 (Kd = 14.5 ± 0.1 μM) strongly targeted phoP in a slow-on, slow-off manner. The inhibitory potency and binding affinity of ST166 and ST132 for MtrAC were comparable to those of phoP. Structural analyses and molecular dynamics simulations revealed that ST166 and ST132 mainly interact with the α8-helix and C-terminal β-hairpin of phoP, with functionally essential residue hotspots for structure-based inhibitor optimization. Moreover, ST166 has in vitro antibacterial activity against Macrobacterium marinum. Thus, ST166, with its characteristic 1,2,5,6-tetrathiocane and terminal sulphonic groups, has excellent potential as a candidate for the development of novel antimicrobial agents to combat pathogenic mycobacteria. © 2024 The Authors

Innovation is essential in the construction industry, but current practices often focus narrowly on specific aspects rather than taking a comprehensive approach. To address this, systematic innovation through business model innovation (BMI) is proposed to enhance overall performance. despite increasing interest in BMI research, it remains in its early stages, lacking quantitative analysis of its impact on business model components. This paper develops a framework using system dynamics to assess changes to a construction company’s BM when faced with a variety of innovations across various projects. This shall be accomplished by (1) establishing factors and their relationships that define a contractor’s BM over time, (2) modeling the said factors using AnyLogic using synthetic data, and (3) evaluating the emergent behavior of BM’s value creation. The study found that the impact of innovation on a contractor’s long-term value creation is not linear; it varies based on when and what type of innovation is implemented. This complexity arises from the trade-offs between cost reductions and additional expenses associated with innovation. The paper introduces a comprehensive framework to assess how innovation affects a contractor’s business model, enabling practitioners to understand better and manage their long-term value-creation strategies.

The Role of Agriculture Waste in Achieving High Efficacy in Residential Sustainable Buildings in Egypt

In residential construction, the primary avenue for enhancing energy efficiency involves deploying thermal insulation, creating a favorable internal thermal environment for occupants with minimal energy usage and carbon emissions. An empirical investigation was carried out to determine the thermal conductivity coefficient values for various types of clay bricks, incorporating diverse concentrations of cellulose fibers. The study utilized cellulose fibers obtained from agricultural residue. These fibers were integrated into the clay bricks at proportions of 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. disparities in physical properties (such as heat capacities, density, and thermal conductivity coefficients) were measured. Using the design Builder program, thermal loads on the walls of the residential building exposed to direct sunlight before and after insulation were simulated. The results showed that introducing heat-insulating material (cellulose fibers) into the walls of the building reduced the heat transfer coefficient (measured in W/m2 K) by 44.7%. Consequently, this resulted in a significant 39.1% decrease in electricity consumption for heating, a 1.3% reduction in cooling, and a remarkable 63.3% decline in CO2 emissions, thereby contributing to environmental conservation. The models recommend that thermal insulation be widely installed in residential structures in order to reduce energy consumption, lower material costs, and safeguard the environment. © 2024, The Authors. Bone quality in zebrafish vertebrae improves after alendronate administration in a glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis model

Glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (GIOP) changes the microarchitecture of bones and often leads to the reduction of bone-mineral density (BMd) and increased fracture rates. Zebrafish has been used as an alternative model for GIOP, however, the interaction of GIOP, and its treatment, with zebrafish bone morphometrics and mechanical properties, remains a challenge. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of prednisolone and alendronate on the properties of zebrafish vertebrae. Adult 7-month-old zebrafish were distributed into four groups: control (CTRL), prednisolone-only (PN), alendronate-only (ALN), and the sequential use of both medicines (PN + ALN). Fish skeletons were scanned via micro-tomography (n = 3) to obtain vertebra morphometrics (e.g., BMd). Bone morphology was assessed using scanning electron microscopy (n = 4) and the biomechanical behaviour with nanoindentation technique (n = 3). The BMd decreased in PN (426.08 ± 18.58 mg/cm3) and ALN (398.23 ± 10.20 mg/cm3) groups compared to the CTRL (490.43 ± 41.96 mg/cm3) (p 3) (p > 0.05). The bone layered structures remain preserved in all groups. ROBUST FEATURE LEARNING AGAINST NOISY LABELS

Supervised learning of deep neural networks heavily relies on large-scale datasets annotated by high-quality labels. In contrast, mislabeled samples can significantly degrade the generalization of models and result in memorizing samples, further learning erroneous associations of data contents to incorrect annotations. To this end, this paper proposes an efficient approach to tackle noisy labels by learning robust feature representation based on unsupervised augmentation restoration and cluster regularization. In addition, progressive self-bootstrapping is introduced to minimize the negative impact of supervision from noisy labels. Our proposed design is generic and flexible in applying to existing classification architectures with minimal overheads. Experimental results show that our proposed method can efficiently and effectively enhance model robustness under severely noisy labels. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
