Augmented reality (AR) is a technology that instantly merges digital pictures with the real scene. The perspective near-eye display is a key module of AR, through which computer-generated pictures or videos can be displayed in the existing environment. The purpose of this research is to establish the system structure of an augmented reality near-eye display device and to design the off-axis two-piece reflective aspherical mirror. Because AR glasses are wearable and are worn close to the eyes, not only the optical performance of the display but also the clear vision of the user needs to be considered. In this study, an off-axis two-piece reflective aspherical mirror is used as the optical system of the AR for displaying the digital image. The micro-display is placed at the focal point of the optical system to form a digital image, and the horizontal movement of the micro-display along the optical axis is controlled by a precise displacement mechanism so that the patient with uncorrected myopia or hyperopia can see the digital picture and real scene. Because the right and left micro-displays move horizontally independently, the user can see the images on the AR device, which becomes the biggest feature of this study. © 2023 IEEE.

This research aims to create a virtual reality-based practice system that simulates real-stage performance environments, assisting amateur dancers in overcoming stage fright and practicing group choreography that is difficult to achieve during individual practice. In this study, users can engage in performance simulations within the created system using the HTC VIVE virtual reality device. Within the system, we have developed a virtual stage space system that only requires a 2m x 3.5m physical area to simulate a large virtual stage experience. Users can also simulate choreographic positioning with virtual dance partners within this system, providing amateur dancers with group dance rehearsal practice opportunities that are not feasible during solo practice. Additionally, by creating three different audience modes, we aim to help users simulate various audience scenarios they may encounter during a performance. The system includes a recording feature that captures users' simulated performances, allowing them to review their actions and receive feedback after practice. © 2024 IEEE.

In brain research, brain tissue segmentation techniques have offered vast aid and possibilities for quantitative analysis of the brain to detect brain tumor and other brain issues. In this paper, UNet-based multiclass brain tissue segmentation is presented. To achieve the best performance of the model, data augmentation techniques are applied. The training, validation and testing of the model is performed on the BrainWeb dataset. The model has achieved improved accuracy and IoU after data augmentation. Both pre and post data augmentation results are presented which show clear improvement in model performance after data augmentation. The achieved IoU for white matter, gray matter and cerebrospinal fluid are 0.84, 0.95 and 0.92, respectively. Our model accurately performed the multiclass brain tissue segmentation and this study proposes a valuable medical aid model.

In this paper, a dual-channel converter with a positive output and negative voltage output is proposed. It integrates a positive voltage output converter and a negative voltage output converter, and shares the same switches. The number of active components can be reduced. In addition, the circuit can achieve dual output voltage control with a single controller and PWM drive signal by appropriately designing the ratio of the number of windings of the coupling inductor. A regulated positive voltage output and negative voltage output can be achieved.

Soil is a renewable and valuable medium for variety of life. In Pakistan, factory effluents and domestic wastewater is generally not recycled and it contaminates the agricultural soils adjacent to nearby drains. Five screened isolates were subjected to azo dye decolorization (Reactive Black, Red Reactive, Blue direct, Congo Red direct) in the presence of NaCl, at variable ph levels and at different carbon sources. Isolate Sr-7, Ss-2-1 showed best decolorization ability in terms of all the azo dyes studied. Similarly, isolates Sr-2-1/1 and Mr-1/1 exhibited maximum phosphate solubilization and IAA production potential. The screened isolates can be used as inoculants to increase crop productivity in problem soils and can also be applied in wastewater treatments processes. © 2021 IEEE.

Enhancement of piezophototronic hydrogen evolution reaction through the polarization of ferroelectric Bi4Ti3O12 microplates

In this study, we analyzed the properties of Bi4Ti3O12 microplates in the context of hydrogen evolution reaction. Piezoresponse force microscopy revealed a typical butterfly curve, indicating that as-synthesized Bi4Ti3O12 exhibits ferroelectric properties. Under ultrasonication, the amount of hydrogen produced by polarized (2000 V) Bi4Ti3O12 increased from 728 to 1349 μmol g−1, which was 1.85 times higher than that generated by unpolarized Bi4Ti3O12. The increase in hydrogen evolution rate may be attributed to the gradual alignment of polarization within the ferroelectric domains of Bi4Ti3O12. Moreover, with synergistic piezophototronic activity, the amount of hydrogen produced by Bi4Ti3O12 was further increased to 1478 μmol g−1, which was 200% higher than that generated by unpolarized Bi4Ti3O12. Theoretical calculations revealed that Bi4Ti3O12 microplates exhibit a high piezoelectric potential along the x-axis, which is consistent with the spontaneous polarization of the microplates. By applying an external polarization field, ferroelectric polarization was activated to effectively separate free charges and extend carrier lifetime (from 0.6 to 0.84 ns). The application of an external electric field to ferroelectric Bi4Ti3O12 appears to be a favorable strategy for enhancing its piezophototronic activity. Our findings may facilitate future studies in the fields of environmental science and renewable energy. © 2023 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC

Breast cancer is a malignant tumor with a high mortality rate among women. Therefore, it is necessary to develop novel therapies to effectively treat this disease. In this study, iron selenide nanorods (FeSe2 NRs) were designed for use in magnetic hyperthermic, photothermal, and chemodynamic therapy (MHT/PTT/CdT) for breast cancer. To illustrate their efficacy, FeSe2 NRs were modified with the chemotherapeutic agent methotrexate (MTX). MTX-modified FeSe2 (FeSe2-MTX) exhibited excellent controlled drug release properties. Fe2+ released from FeSe2 NRs induced the release of •OH from H2O2 via a Fenton/Fenton-like reaction, enhancing the efficacy of CdT. Under alternating magnetic field (AMF) stimulation and 808 nm laser irradiation, FeSe2-MTX exerted potent hyperthermic and photothermal effects by suppressing tumor growth in a breast cancer nude mouse model. In addition, FeSe2 NRs can be used for magnetic resonance imaging in vivo by incorporating their superparamagnetic characteristics into a single nanomaterial. Overall, we presented a novel technique for the precise delivery of functional nanosystems to tumors that can enhance the efficacy of breast cancer treatment. © 2024 The Authors. Bioactive compounds from tropical fruit by-products: Extraction, characterization and therapeutic potential

The processing of tropical fruits generates large amounts of residues, such as peels or seeds, with great nutraceutical potential due to their high content of bioactive compounds: polyphenols, carotenoids, anthocyanins, flavonoids, tannins, and phenolic acids with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anticancer and anti-obesity properties. However, there are several challenges associted with the efficient extraction and accurate characterization of these compounds, including the complexity of plant matrices, variability in compound polarity, and the need for scalable, eco-friendly methods that preserve their bioactivity. This review highlights the bioactive composition, the most important and studied therapeutic properties of the by-products of different tropical fruits such as mango, pineapple, and avocado, and the main extraction, identification, and characterization techniques of these compounds. A scientific surveillance analysis of studies published on the last 5 years revealed a 67.6 % increase in research activity, with a growing emphasis on green extraction technologies—such as ultrasound-assisted, microwave-assisted, and supercritical fluid extraction— and the use of emerging solvents like natural deep eutectic solvents. Moreover, there is increasing interest in optimizing extraction conditions and in validating the functional potential of bioactive compounds through in vitro digestion and bioavailability assays. These trends underscore the strategic relevance of tropical fruit by-products as a sustainable source of functional compounds. The integration of clean technologies, optimization and scale-up strategies, and advanced analytical methods supports their valorization and promotes the development of high value-added nutraceuticals aligned with circular economy principles and public health objectives. © 2025 The Authors

Two-phase cost-sensitive-learning-based framework on customer-side quality inspection for TFT-LCd industry

The Covid-19 outbreak in 2020 boosted the stay-at-home economy, causing a surge in electronics industry demand, especially benefiting the LCd panel sector. However, as the pandemic situation improved, countries revised policies, leading to the gradual discontinuation of remote work arrangements in various industries. This resulted in declining dividends for the stay-at-home economy. The decreased demand created intense competition within the TFT-LCd industry, urging panel companies to prioritize product quality enhancement to meet customer expectations. Panel quality inspection heavily relied on manual labor, causing varying inspection levels due to subjective judgments. Understanding and aligning with customer expectations regarding product quality inspections became imperative. Identifying defective products during inspection led to additional costs for the companies. Balancing customer product quality requirements and re-inspection costs became crucial for optimal benefits. This study addresses the binary classification problem of customer-side quality inspection through cost-sensitive learning. The predictive model considers panel process yield, production history, customer feedback, inspection capacity constraints, and cost minimization to predict panel quality as accepted or defective. To tackle the highly imbalanced data, a two-phase cost-sensitive-learning-based framework is proposed, combining data preprocessing methods and models, while considering re-inspection capacity constraints and costs to enhance accuracy. The model’s evaluation uses key performance indicators like AUC and G-mean. Actual inspection cost and defective parts per million (dPPM) are calculated based on the company’s practical assessment. We sought to revolutionize the classification of Attention-deficit/Hyperactivity disorder (AdHd) by pioneering an innovative approach that seamlessly integrated auditory and visual tests with electroencephalogram (EEG) coherence analysis, forming the foundation for our Support Vector Machine (SVM) models. Our primary objective was to achieve precise differentiation between individuals with AdHd and those without, aiming to reshape the landscape of AdHd diagnosis and early intervention. We constructed an SVM model based on CATA coherence, incorporating a carefully selected set of 180 features, and another grounded in CPT coherence with 70 features. Astonishingly, our exploration uncovered that a model incorporating CATA's coherence and Power Spectral density (PSd) as features achieved an astounding accuracy rate of 97.7%, using only half the number of features. This revelation hints at untapped potential for multivariate advancements in the realm of AdHd classification. The landscape of AdHd diagnosis and intervention is perpetually evolving, most notably with the FdA's approval of game therapy for AdHd. Leveraging the transformative power of our findings, we envision the development of user-friendly game therapies for in-home use, empowering both clinicians and parents alike. This marks a paradigm shift in the realm of AdHd intervention, offering objective, data-driven tools for the early management of AdHd. Gamified therapy not only enhances accessibility but also fosters engagement and compliance, all of which are pivotal in the long-term care of individuals with AdHd. In summary, our study represents a significant advancement in our comprehension and classification of AdHd. By fusing auditory and visual tests with EEG coherence analysis, fortified by state-of-the-art machine learning techniques, we have achieved an unprecedented level of accuracy in identifying individuals with AdHd.
