Most audio source separation-related studies have been speech/singing separation, and those on musical instruments separation have been relatively scant. In this research, a stacked recurrent neural network was used to train a model to extract electric guitar sound from mixtures of electric guitar and other musical instruments. Objective assessment scores indicate that the proposed method can extract the electric guitar sounds from the musical mixtures successfully.

Metal oxide heterojunctions have attracted considerable attention in photocatalyst and supercapacitor applications. In this study, NiMn2O4/CoMn2O4 (NMO/CMO) heterojunctions were synthesized using ternary metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as precursors. After calcination at 500 °C, the as-prepared NMO/CMO composite maintains the porous sheet-like morphology of the ternary MOF, exhibiting a highly porous structure. The heterostructured NMO/CMO composite demonstrates enhanced photocatalytic performance compared with pure NMO and CMO. This enhancement may be attributed to the well-aligned energy levels at the NMO/CMO interface, which effectively reduces charge recombination and facilitates the efficient transport of photogenerated carriers. In addition, the NMO/CMO heterojunction exhibits enhanced supercapacitor performance owing to the increased number of active redox sites and reduced charge transfer resistance. When tested at 3 A/g, the NMO/CMO composite displays a higher capacitance (756.4 F/g) than pure NMO (579.6 F/g) and CMO (519.6 F/g) and remarkable rate capability, maintaining a capacitance of 639 F/g even at 10 A/g. Notably, asymmetric supercapacitors fabricated using NMO/CMO and activated carbon can achieve an energy density of 32.18 W h/kg at 750 W/kg and superior cycling life, retaining 92.1% of its initial capacitance after 3000 cycles. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

Symbolic computation for systems of differential equations is often computationally expensive. Many practical differential models have a form of polynomial or rational OdE system with specified outputs. A basic symbolic approach to analyze these models is to compute and then symbolically process the polynomial system obtained by sufficiently many Lie derivatives of the output functions with respect to the vector field given by the OdE system. In this paper, we present a method for speeding up Gröbner basis computation for such a class of polynomial systems by using specific monomial ordering, including weights for the variables, coming from the structure of the OdE model. We provide empirical results that show improvement across different symbolic computing frameworks and apply the method to speed up structural identifiability analysis of OdE models. © 2022, CC BY-NC-SA.

The objectives of this study were to investigate the biocompatibility and hemostatic efficacy of silk fibroin nanofibrils (SFNFs). Unlike a conventional dialysis/freeze-drying process, SFNFs were prepared using a novel shear-induced phase-separation method. The morphology, particle size distribution, protein secondary structures, and crystalline structures of the resulting SFNFs were respectively investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), laser diffraction (Ld), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and x-ray diffraction (XRd) deconvolution analyses. Polar and non-polar extractants of SFNFs under a bath ratio of 0.2 g/mL were collected after individually soaking them into 0.9% normal saline and cottonseed oil. In vitro hemolysis ratios, biocompatibility, and sensitization tests were carried out. Then, the hemostatic efficacy was assayed using a rat liver punch biopsy model. Compared to dialyzed/freeze-dried SF, the harvested SFNFs revealed high surface area in morphology. The median particle size distribution, d50, was 294 μm for SFNFs. Shear-induced hydrogen bonding, crystallization, and phase separation tended to give the SFNFs a high crystalline index (CI) and degree of crystallinity (dC). The hemolysis ratio of SFNFs was 0.86 ± 0.40%, and it was classified as being non-hemolytic (0%∼2%). The test results of toxicity and skin sensitization were both negative. This work presents oxidation behaviours of Al-bearing Cr-based alloys GA1 (51Cr-22Al-13Mo-9Ta-5Si in at%) and GA2 (40Cr-33Al-13Mo-9Ta-5Si in at%) at 1100–1400 ˚C for up to 24 h. The formation of oxides on the surfaces was influenced by constituent phases;BCC phase was rich in Al and formed only α-Al2O3, complex oxides (Cr2O3, AlTaO4, CrTaO4, and Ta2O5) occurred on top of C14 Laves phase. Sufficient Al content is crucial to the formation of protective α-Al2O3, as GA2 was able to resist severe oxidation at 1400 ˚C with an oxidation weight gain of only 3.3 mg/cm2 after 24 h. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

due to the outstanding semiconducting and metallic properties, 2d materials such as Transition Metal dichalcogenides (TMds) and Transition Metal Carbides (TMCs) appear to be promising candidate for Nano-scale electronics devices. Among them, 2d - Mo2C (Molybdenum carbide) has attracted attention as a new member of the MXene group, owing to its potential applications for superconductors, electronics devices, and catalysts for Hydrogen evolution Reactions (HER). Structural modification toward the creation of novel heterostructures with phase engineering opens new pathways for different applications. Herein, we prepared a large area Mo2C film by chemical vapor deposition method. The upper region of Mo2C layers can be oxidized to create Mo2C/MoOx heterostructures. Furthermore, those oxide layers were further transformed into MoSe2 and MoS2 by plasma-assisted selenization and sulfurization processes at different temperatures with a fixed plasma power of 150 W. The heterostructures demonstrated outstanding electrocatalytic activity for HER due to an existed metallic phase and active sites present after plasma-assisted selenization and sulfurization processes at the low temperature. The performance of the HER decreases at high temperatures owing to their semiconducting phase. The pristine Mo2C showed a Tafel slope of 72 mV dec−1 and an overpotential of 276 mV at 10 mA/cm2, while the Mo2C/MoSe2 heterostructure synthesized at 350 °C350 °exhibited an improved Tafel slope of 66 mV dec−1 and overpotential of 257 mV at 10 mA/ cm2. Additionally, the Mo2C/MoS2 heterostructure prepared at 350 °C also demonstrated a 263 mV improvement in overpotential at 10 mA/cm2. All the heterostructures showed excellent stability over a period of 10 h except Mo2C/MoOx. This work opens new strategies to fabricate high-quality MXene and TMds heterostructures with metal-semiconductor interface. © 2024

Stripe arrays of poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA) brushes were grafted using a photoresist template to fabricate one-dimensional photonic crystal (OPCs). The as-prepared samples were first bound with protein G to immobilize and orient tails of the antibody of Pa (abY). A fluidic diffraction chip based on the abY-tailed PMMA OPC was fabricated to examine the ability of Pa detection from whole blood specimen. Pa was attached to the abY-tailed PMMA OPC after flowing through the fluidic chip, which changed the diffraction intensity. A laser beam was employed to analyze the reflective signals of OPCs at an incident angle of 45°. The abY-tailed PMAA OPC possessed an optical feature with a characteristic diffraction effect such that the projection of the laser beam on the plane of the OPC chip was parallel to the strips in SII configurations, whereas they were perpendicular in ST configurations. The degree of the diffraction intensity exhibited a linear response to Pa at concentrations from 102 to 107 CFU mL−1, and the limit of detection was 100 CFU mL−1, indicating the excellent sensitivity in Pa-spiked whole blood samples. The proposed platform provides a rapid, label-free method for Pa detection to improve the administration of antibiotics in a timely manner. © 2022 The Authors

Effects of molecular weight fraction on antioxidation capacity of rice protein hydrolysates

Rice protein was used as a starting material to provide rice protein hydrolysates (Rph) through enzyme-assisted extraction. Rph was further fractionated using ultrafiltration membrane (UF) and classified by molecular weight (MW;MW < 1 kda, MW 1–10 kda, and MW > 10 kda). Peptides with MW < 1 kda possessed superior antioxidant properties (p < 0.05). Therefore, UF demonstrated great efficacy in selectively separating antioxidant peptides. A Pearson correlation analysis revealed that the total phenolic concentration was correlated with oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC;r = 0.999, p < 0.05). Amino acid contents had negative correlations with the scavenging activity (specifically, IC50) of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radicals (r = − 0.986 to − 1.000). Reducing power was related to aromatic amino acid contents (r = 0.997, p < 0.05). In this study, enzymatic hydrolysis was discovered to be an effective method of extracting and isolating natural antioxidant proteins from broken rice, thus preserving the nutritional quality of rice and making those proteins more accessible in future applications. © 2023, The Author(s).

Objective: The study aimed to determine the incidence and risk factors associated with bone cement dislodgement in patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture following balloon kyphoplasty treatment. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 203 patients who underwent kyphoplasty in 255 vertebral bodies between January 2017 and december 2021. The patients were categorized into two groups: the bone cement dislodgment group (n = 16) and the non-bone cement dislodgement group (n = 239). Various patient characteristics and radiologic parameters were evaluated. Statistical analysis involved the assessment of the background homogeneity of the group by using independent sample t tests, chi-square tests, and Fisher's exact. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to explore the impact of background variables on cement dislodgement. Results: The results revealed that split-type fracture (χ² = 31.706, p < 0.001), dISH (χ² = 18.827, p = 0.011), pedicle fracture (χ² = 22.246, p < 0.001), endplate deficit (χ² = 14.023, p < 0.001), posterior wall injury (χ² = 29.124, p < 0.001), and intervertebral vacuum cleft (χ² = 21.469, p < 0.001) were the factors that significantly differed between the two groups. The multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed posterior wall injury (OR = 12.983, p = 0.025) and intervertebral vacuum cleft (OR = 5.062, p = 0.024) to be independent risk factors. Conclusion: The incidence of bone cement dislodgement in our study was 6.3%. This study underscores the importance of using preoperative radiologic parameters to predict the risk of bone cement dislodgement following balloon kyphoplasty. © 2024 Elsevier Masson SAS
