Background and Aims: We investigated the use of GnRHa pretreatment with different protocols and durations of treatment on pregnancy outcomes in women undergoing FET with artificial cycles (AC-FET). Method: A systematic search of PubMed, EMBASE, Google Scholar, and Cochrane library was performed to include only eligible peer-reviewed studies in English published before September 01, 2022. This review was registered on PROSPERO (CRd42022299259) Results: A total of 41 studies (43021 individuals) were included with low to moderate risk of bias. Overall, GnRHa pretreatment improved clinical pregnancy rate (CPR) (OR=1.27, 95%CI:1.12-1.44), implantation rate (IR) (OR=1.24, 95%CI:1.07-1.45), live birth rate (LBR) (OR=1.31, 95%CI:1.07-1.60) and endometrial thickness (Md=0.16, 95%CI:0.03-0.30). Subgroup analyses of randomized and non-randomized studies both demonstrated the benefits of GnRHa pretreatment in CPR, IR, and LBR. Protocols using depot GnRHa (OR=1.19, 95%CI:1.04-1.36) showed a better LBR than daily GnRHa (OR=1.04, 95%CI:0.93-1.16). Women administered GnRHa for more than one cycle had better CPR (OR=2.01, 95%CI:1.29-3.13) and IR (OR=2.14, 95%CI:0.98-4.67) than those treated with GnRHa within one cycle before FET ([OR=1.18, 95%CI:1.04-1.33] and [OR=1.16, 95%CI:1.01-1.32], respectively). In women with PCOS, pituitary suppression with GnRHa significantly improved CPR (OR=1.24, 95%CI:0.98-4.67), LBR (OR=1.22, 95%CI:1.05-1.42) and reduced the miscarriage rate (OR=0.75, 95%CI:0.59-0.95). In contrast, women with regular menstruation had a higher endometrial thickness (Md=0.16, 95%CI: 0.04-0.28) but no significant improvements in pregnancy outcomes. GnRHa pretreatment considerably improved IR (OR=2.21, 95%CI:1.60-3.07) in women with adenomyosis and CPR (OR=1.74, 95%CI:1.12-2.71), and LBR (OR=1.67, 95%CI:1.06-2.63) in women with endometriosis. Validating the association of Oxford classification and renal function deterioration among Taiwanese individuals with Immunoglobulin A nephropathy

Validation of the Oxford classification (MEST and MEST-C) for Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) in the Taiwanese population is lacking. Our study aimed to validate this classification and assess individual lesion impact. We conducted a retrospective cohort study at Taichung Veterans General Hospital, Taiwan (Jan 2011–Jul 2023). Composite renal outcomes were evaluated using clinical conditions and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). We used Kaplan–Meier, univariable/multivariable logistic regression and ROC curves. Subgroup analysis considered eGFR < or ≥ 30.0 ml/min/1.73 m². In 366 renal biopsies, serum creatinine was 1.34 mg/dl, eGFR 53.8 ml/min/1.73 m², urine protein–creatinine ratio 1159 mg/g. T1/T2 lesions had lowest baseline eGFR (39.6/11.5 ml/min/1.73 m²), correlating with poorest renal survival (median survival 54.7/34.4 months). Univariable analysis linked all individual variables to worse renal outcomes. Multivariable analysis (MEST/MEST-C) showed only T1/T2 linked to worse outcomes. T score had highest predictive power (AUC 0.728, sensitivity 60.2%, specificity 83.6%), with MEST having high AUC (0.758). No extra predictive power was seen transitioning MEST to MEST-C. Subgroup analysis (eGFR < 30.0 ml/min/1.73 m²) associated C1 with improved renal outcomes (odds ratio 0.14, 95% CI 0.03–0.65). T lesion correlated with worse outcomes across subgroups. The T lesion consistently correlated with worse renal outcomes across all groups and baseline statuses. Integrating the C lesion into the transition from MEST to MEST-C did not enhance predictive power. Importantly, the C1 lesion was linked to improved renal outcomes in the eGFR < 30.0 ml/min/1.73 m² subgroup, likely due to treatment effects. © 2023, The Author(s).

Microplastics pollution is a modern-day prevalent challenge that poses serious threats to the general wellbeing and sustainability of the planet. due to their innately persistent nature, extreme durability, and high stability, they exhibit long residence time and could be transferred through the ecological chains. Current days have witnessed an increase in the accumulation of microplastics waste and debris. This is due to the protective measures imposed by governments and the World Health Organization (WHO) as part of the containment and mitigation efforts of the COVId-19 pandemic. Therefore, the development of versatile, robust, flexible, and efficient removal systems has become a necessity in order to control microplastics pollution. Herein, we review the repercussions of the pandemic on the state of microplastics contamination, sources and identification methods of microplastics in water, their toxicity and risks on the environment, as well as their degradation and conventional removal methods. This review focuses on adsorption and the use of biochar as one of the emerging adsorbents for the removal of microplastics. The efficiency of adsorption using biochar, mechanisms, and applications are discussed. The review addresses the increased rates of microplastics occurrence especially during the era of COVId-19, which requires more efficient and lower cost removal methods. The major conclusions drawn from this review include emphasizing the significant potential of adsorption processes in the removal of microplastics. Biochar is present among the available and most efficient biomass adsorbents especially when combined with other materials. Composite biochar materials play an important role in enhancing the removal and immobility of microplastics. However, more research is required to investigate this at a larger scale, improve efficiency and immobilization techniques. © 2021 The Authors

Air pollution, outdoor residential environment, indoor household characteristics, and parental mental health are potential factors associated with child development. However, few studies have simultaneously analyzed the association between the aforementioned factors and preschool child (aged 2–5 years) development. This study investigated the effects of those factors on child development and their potential modifying effects. A total of 142 participants were recruited from a birth cohort study in the Greater Taipei Area, and the evaluation was conducted at each participant's home from 2017 to 2020. Child cognitive development was assessed by psychologists using the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler development and the Wechsler Preschool & Primary Scale of Intelligence. Household air pollutants, outdoor residential environment, indoor household characteristics, parental mental health, and other covariates were evaluated. Multiple regressions were used to examine the relationships between child development and covariates. Stratified analysis by child sex and parental mental health was conducted. Average indoor air pollutant levels were below Taiwan's Indoor Air Quality Standards. After adjustment for covariates, the indoor total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) level was significantly associated with poor child development (per interquartile range increase in the TVOC level was associated with a 5.1 percentile decrease in child cognitive development). Sex difference was observed for the association between TVOC exposure and child development. Living near schools, burning incense at home, purchasing new furniture, and parental anxiety were related to child development. Indoor TVOC level was associated with poor child cognitive development, specifically with the girls. Indoor and outdoor residential environment and parental anxiety interfered with child development. This study aimed to integrate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and related somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP) features to assist in the diagnosis of spinal cord compression (SCC). MRI scans were graded from 0 to 3 according to the changes in the subarachnoid space and scan signals to confirm differences in SCC levels. The amplitude, latency, and time–frequency analysis (TFA) power of preoperative SSEP features were extracted and the changes were used as standard judgments to detect neurological function changes. Then the patient distribution was quantified according to the SSEP feature changes under the same and different MRI compression grades. Significant differences were found in the amplitude and TFA power between MRI grades. We estimated three degrees of amplitude anomalies and power loss under each MRI grade and found the presence or absence of power loss occurs after abnormal changes in amplitude only. For SCC, few integrated approach combines the advantages of both MRI and evoked potentials. However, integrating the amplitude and TFA power changes of SSEP features with MRI grading can help in the diagnosis and speculate progression of SCC. © 2023, The Author(s).

This research focused on oxidation behaviours of Al-bearing Cr-based alloys at 1100-1400 ˚C for up to 24 hours. Experimental observations indicate that Al2O3 protective oxide formed mainly on the matrix BCC phase, and complex oxides formation occurred in the vicinity of C14 Laves phase, such as Cr2O3, AlTaO4, CrTaO4, and Ta2O5, leading to some internal Al2O3 and AlN formation. Although the increase in Al content could promote the formation of protective Al2O3, it also caused oxide spallation due to CTE mismatch. This study may provide some insights in the development of future oxidation-resistant Cr-based alloy compositions. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Cytokines and chemokines play important roles in inflammation and repair following brain injury. M1 microglia are pro-inflammatory which produce cytokines and lead to neural injury;in contrast, M2 microglia are anti-inflammatory, release neurotrophic factors, and promote neural repair processes. Chemokine CCL5, increased after TBI, shows a neuroprotective function by reducing oxidative stress. CCL5 may contribute to the balance between oxidative stress and immune responses after brain injury. Herein, we investigated the role of CCL5 in microglial polarization after mild traumatic brain injury, focusing on the cerebral cortex.C57BL/6 and CCL5 knockout (CCL5-KO) mice were given a mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) using weight-drop. Neurological parameters such as motor and sensory functions were analyzed by mNSS score, accelerating rotarod, beam walking, and adhesive removal tests. Oxidative stress and neuron damage were measured by NAdph oxidase activity, hypoxyloprobe staining and FJC. Performance of motor and sensory functions in both WT and CCL5-KO mice were impaired after brain injury which recovered after 7 days-post-injury (dpi) in the WT group but only after 14 days in the CCL5-KO mouse group. RT-qPCR analysis revealed that pro-inflammation cytokines - IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-6 were higher in CCL5-KO mice compared to WT mice at 4 and 14 dpi. In contrast, M2-like microglia markers - IL-10 and Agr-1 were increased in WT mouse cortical tissue at 4 dpi. Oxidative stress increased both M1 and M2- related cytokine expression in BV2 cells treated with H 2 O 2;CCL5 treatment increased M2- but suppressed M1- related cytokine gene activation. Recombinant avian phage display immunoglobulin Y derivative single chain variable fragment (IgY-scFv) antibodies have evolved as robust single-chain antigen recognizing IgY analogues due to the advent of immuno-nanotechnology and other immunomolecular biotechnology applications. This academic study reports on the engineering and characterization of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 nucleocapsid (SARS-CoV-2 N) monoaffinity recombinant chicken IgY derivative single chain variable fragment (IgY-scFv) antibody fragments as versatile tools for surrogate immunological identification of the SARS-CoV-2 virus nuclear biomarker. To improve the immunopanning selection for specific binders, layer hens were immunised with the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein to pre-enrich higher affinity B cell gene repertoires prior to library construction. Pre-enrichment humoral egg yolk polyclonal IgY antibodies were isolated following the PEG-8000 precipitation protocol. An experimental based modelling approach was applied in order to create IgY derivative N protein single chain variable fragments (IgY-scFv N) M13KO7 phage antibody libraries, an immune phage display library constructed system that supported the generation of functional anti-SARS-CoV-2 N protein IgY-scFv affinity monospecific fragment immunomolecules. After the immunopanning enrichment selection process three distinct positive sequence family IgY-scFv fragments obtained demonstrated epitope specific affinity (micromolar range kinetics) towards the targeted recombinant SARS-CoV-2 N protein and also positively identified native SARS-CoV-2 (COVId-19) N protein in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) 293T cell pellets. © 2024, The Authors. Environmental determinants of household microbial and allergen levels in the Greater Taipei Area

People spend most of their time indoors, where they may be exposed to various microorganisms and allergens. In this cross-sectional study, we investigated the relationship between indoor microbial and allergen levels and indoor and outdoor household environmental characteristics. Participants were recruited from an ongoing cohort study in the Greater Taipei Area. Questionnaire administration and environmental sampling were conducted during home visits. Samples were collected from children's bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, and outdoor areas (balconies) and analyzed for fungal spores, house dust mite allergens (der p 1 and der f 1), endotoxin, and cockroach allergens (Bla g 1). Indoor temperature and relative humidity were also measured, and the land-use characteristics and points of interest surrounding the residences were evaluated within specified radii. The mean levels of outdoor air pollutants were then estimated, and multiple regression analysis was performed to investigate the predictors of indoor microbial and allergen levels. In total, 136 homes were analyzed. The results indicated that dog ownership, air purifier use, and floor cleaning frequency were major predictors of indoor microbial and allergen levels. Moreover, proximity to parks, roads, and forests was associated with elevated levels of indoor microorganisms and allergens. Our results demonstrated that indoor concentrations of certain microorganisms and allergens tended to increase in households located within neighborhoods with particular characteristics. Overall, our research findings contribute to housing intervention protocols and policies aimed at reducing exposure to indoor microorganisms and allergens. Future studies should longitudinally investigate the health effects of indoor microorganisms and allergens. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd
