Unbalanced walking is increasingly common among older adults;therefore, routinely assessing the balance of older adults is crucial. The traditional method of assessing balance uses scales, requires the supervision of a physical therapist (PT), and is time-consuming. The present study, therefore, proposes a deep learning (dL) model architecture that combines a convolutional neural network (CNN) and a long short-term memory (LSTM) network model to predict the scores of three scales, namely the Berg balance scale (BBS), timed up and go (TUG), and single-leg stance (SLS). The gait data of 15 m of walking were collected from seven inertial measurement units (IMUs) and input into the CNN-LSTM model for evaluation. The BBS and TUG only require the participants to wear two IMUs on the left and right thighs, respectively, for accurate predictions. The mean absolute errors (MAEs) of predicting the scores of the BBS and TUG are 1.2562 and 1.4016 s, respectively;however, the MAE of score predictions of SLS is higher than that of the BBS and TUG, indicating that gait data cannot be used for assessing SLS;moreover, participants only wear one IMU on the right calf for BBS and TUG evaluations, which yield MAEs of 1.4334 and 1.5229 s, respectively. The proposed system can quickly and accurately predict the scores of the BBS and TUG. The proposed model can assist PTs with making clinical decisions. © 2001-2012 IEEE.

Rectifier plays a pivotal role in wireless power transfer systems. While numerous studies have concentrated on enhancing efficiency and bandwidth at specific high-power levels, practical scenarios often involve unpredictable power inputs. Consequently, a distinct need arises for a rectifier that demonstrates superior efficiency across a broad range of input power levels. This paper introduces a high-power RF-to-dC rectifier designed for WPT applications, featuring an ultrawide dynamic range of input power. The rectification process leverages a GaN (gallium nitride) high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) to efficiently handle high power levels up to 12.6 W. The matching circuit was designed to ensure that the rectifier will operate in class-F mode. A Schottky diode is incorporated into the design for relatively lower-power rectification. Seamless switching between the rectification modes of the two circuits is accomplished through the integration of a circulator. The proposed rectifier exhibits a 27.5 dB dynamic range, achieving an efficiency exceeding 55% at 2.4 GHz. Substantial improvement in power handling and dynamic range over traditional rectifiers is demonstrated. © 2024 by the authors.

The study explores various 2d feature representations including spectrogram, MFCC spectrogram, log Mel-spectrogram, and the perceptual weighted log Mel-spectrogram (PW-LMSP) for acoustic scene classification (ASC). These 2d feature representations were classified using a bottom-up broadcast neural network (BBNN). The experimental results have shown that PW-LMSP outperforms other 2d representations. Further, the proposed method (PW-LMSP with BBNN) achieves accuracies of 91.2% and 91.6% respectively on the dCASE2018 and dCASE2019 development datasets, outperforming all the submissions in dCASE2018 and dCASE2019, as well as state-of-the-art approaches.

developing a smart grid is a trend nowadays and an indispensable basic necessity of life. In recent years, the electricity demand has risen rapidly due to economic development and quality of life improvement. The power grid in significant cities is unstable due to old equipment, and power outages occur frequently. The smart grid can adjust the grid’s distribution strategy through the consumer’s real-time electricity demand so that the consumer’s electricity consumption data is always transmitted to the grid. Failure to protect the privacy and security of such information will expose consumers’ habits and even make the grid unnecessarily wasteful. The smart grid’s abnormality detection efficiency determines the overall grid’s stability. Failure to detect anomalies or power theft in the grid promptly will not only lead to the selection of the wrong distribution strategy for the smart grid but also reduce the transmission efficiency of the grid. This research ensures the privacy and security of transmitted data to enhance the efficiency of abnormality detection in the smart grid. The research issues are divided into privacy of transmitted data, data security authentication, and anomaly detection efficiency. © (2024), (International Journal of Network Security). Here, we propose phase and interfacial engineering by inserting a functional WO3 layer and selenized it to achieve a 2d-layered WSe2/WO3 heterolayer structure by a plasma-assisted selenization process. The 2d-layered WSe2/WO3 heterolayer was coupled with an Al2O3 film as a resistive switching (RS) layer to form a hybrid structure, with which Pt and W films were used as the top and bottom electrodes, respectively. The device with good uniformity in SET/RESET voltage and high low-/high-resistance window can be obtained by controlling a conversion ratio from a WO3 film to a 2d-layered WSe2 thin film. The Pt/Al2O3/(2d-layered WSe2/WO3)/W structure shows remarkable improvement to the pristine Pt/Al2O3/W and Pt/Al2O3/2d-layered WO3/W in terms of low SET/RESET voltage variability (−20/20)%, multilevel characteristics (uniform LRS/HRS distribution), high on/off ratio (104-105), and retention (∼105 s). The thickness of the obtained WSe2 was tuned at different gas ratios to optimize different 2d-layered WSe2/WO3 (%) ratios, showing a distinctive trend of reduced and uniform SET/RESET voltage variability as 2d-layered WSe2/WO3 (%) changes from 90/10 (%) to 45/55 (%), respectively. The electrical measurements confirm the superior ability of the metallic 1T phase of the 2d-layered WSe2 over the semiconducting 2H phase. Through systemic studies of RS behaviors on the effect of 1T/2H phases and 2d-layered WSe2/WO3 ratios, the low-temperature plasma-assisted selenization offers compatibility with the temperature-limited 3d integration process and also provides much better thickness control over a large area. © 2023 American Chemical Society.

This paper presents a comprehensive review on the current state of digital simulation technology and its strategic application usages with a key focus on advanced compression garments. Although three-dimensional (3d) digital garment simulators have significantly impacted the apparel and textile industry, their use has been limited to visual prototyping, quality checking, or marketing. The physical properties of garment simulators have been overlooked in advanced functional manufacturing. This literature review investigates the possibility of strategically utilizing virtual physical properties to enhance garment functions, specifically in wearables and medical-grade compression fields. The first phase of this paper gives an overview of the current state of 3d garment simulation tools and their measurement features. This is followed by a gap analysis between simulated and physical property evaluations, focusing on minimizing the gaps. The literature is thoroughly examined to identify appropriate studies that uses digital tools for compressional garments and add value to wearables and healthcare applications. This paper provides valuable insights for apparel and textile engineers, enabling them to better understand the limitations and capabilities of garment simulators in improving advanced features for specific end users. © TBIS 2023. Before the advent of deep learning, traditional image recognition used algorithms to find features and then classify images using classical machine learning algorithms. But it is difficult to define features for variable types of images. Instead, Representation learning is a way to allow a system to discover the representations of feature for image processing. deep-learning algorithms attempt to learn multiple levels of representation and play the key role of modern Representation learning. When deep learning neural networks recognize images, the shallow layers usually extract lower-level features, then start with intermediate-level features, and finally the full images. This study uses CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) to classify fireworks images, and the trained modules are used to evaluate the accuracy and suitability. © 2021 IEEE.

AC-dC converters almost always require common-mode (CM) filters to restrict conducting their electromagnetic interference (EMI) emissions to the power grid and ensure compliance with EMI certification requirements. These CM filters, which are based on the well-known LC lowpass filter, are typically bulky and expensive. Hence, a method for passive $\mathbf{C M}$ current cancellation using a nonlinear model is proposed herein. This method is entirely composed of passive components and offers advantages in terms of cost and system reliability. Compared to conventional passive LC filters, the number of magnetic components remains unchanged. This study proposes the derivation of a nonlinear model to estimate the filter performance using measured data from an actual CM choke; however, the proposed method does not require the mathematical model of a CM choke.

In this paper, we have presented our experiment results including (a) use a slowly thermal spray process deposition an yttrium oxide (Y 2 O 3 ) film with thickness of $200\ \mu\mathrm{m}$ on the aluminum alloy (AA6061). The image analysis showed that the porosity of Y 2 O 3 film can be reduced to less than 2%. The further aerosol deposition can be used filling the pores and can reduce the porosity of the film to less than 0.5%. This low-porosity Y 2 O 3 film will be able to meet the increasingly stringent requirements for surface coating protection of semiconductor vacuum chamber. (b) Compared the corrosion characterization in 3.5 wt. % NaCl solution between naked AA6061 and AA6061 with Y 2 O 3 coating, a high corrosion reactivity ( $\mathrm{I}_{\text{corr}}=10^{-3.3}\mathrm{A}/\text{cm}^{2}$ ) of naked AA6061 then AA6061 with Y 2 O 3 coating ( $\mathrm{I}_{\text{corr}}=10^{-5.8}\mathrm{A}/\text{cm}^{2}$ ). The corrosion reactivity of AA6061 with Y 2 O 3 is reduced by 316 times to a naked AA6061.

This work proposes an innovative design for reducing common-mode noise in LLC converter transformers and meeting electrical safety regulations. Conventional designs are often prone to common-mode noise current paths due to parasitic capacitance and the typical characteristics of the transformer core. This study introduces the concept of dividing and insulating the core structure of the transformer to effectively break the common-mode noise current path, thereby substantially diminishing the common-mode current path resulting from the parasitic capacitances of the primary and secondary windings, as well as the core. The experimental results of the study revealed significant performance enhancement in minimizing the conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) using the new design. Furthermore, the proposed scheme offers advantages in terms of simplicity and practicality. This design presents an efficient and electrically safe solution for LLC converters that require high power density and low EMI levels.
