In this paper, a novel direct adaptive fuzzy sliding mode proportional integral (PI) tracking control of a three-dimensional overhead crane which is modeled by five highly nonlinear second order ordinary differential equations is proposed to achieve fast and robust position regulation and anti-swing control. due to universal approximation theorem, fuzzy control provides nonlinear controller, i.e., fuzzy logic controllers, to perform the unknown nonlinear control actions. Simultaneously, sliding mode control (SMC) used to handle the system uncertainties and external disturbances. Simulation performed using a scaled 3-d mathematical model of the crane confirm that the proposed control scheme can keep the horizontal position of the payload invariable and suppress the swing of the payload effectively during the hoisting or lowing process.

In this paper we present results of a series of experiments in which combinations of vector quantization and temporal energy contours are incorporated into the standard framework for the word recognizer. We consider two distinct word vocabularies, namely, a set of 10 digits, and a 129-word airlines vocabulary. We show that the incorporation of energy leads to small but consistent improvements in performance for the digits vocabulary; the incorporation of vector quantization (in a judicious manner) leads to small degradation in performance for both vocabularies, but at the same time reduces overall computation of the recognizer by a significant amount. We conclude that a high-performance, moderate-computation, isolated word recognizer can be achieved using vector quantization and the temporal energy contour.

Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) is a current prevalent technique for surgical operations. Compared with traditional surgical methods, MIS can reduce the post-surgical recovery time, as well as the costs and pain patients endure as a result of surgery. It is therefore of interest to both doctors and patients. The major problem of MIS is there being a narrow field of vision. We have developed and validated a MIS Panoramic Endoscope (MISPE) [4] to provide doctors with broad fields of view. MISPE features a combination of image overlapping and image stitching. The panoramic image apparatus has two side-by-side endoscopic lenses that provide wide-angle inputs for image stitching. MISPE can provide doctors with panoramic images, so that doctors can easily discriminate the organ's positions between surgical operations. The two issues of concern of MISPE are the quality and speed of image stitching. However, the image stitching results of MISPE cannot be obtained by using the conventional SIFT[1], SURF[2], or ORB[3] algorithms. Therefore, this paper proposes few novel techniques to improve the image stitching performance of MISPE. Experimental results show that MISPE can enhance the image size by up to 150%. We also obtained 2X performance improvement in comparison with the conventional techniques.

The aim of this paper is to use Taiwan semiconductor manufacturing company (TSMC) 0.18 μm CMOS technology process to complete an ultra wideband (UWB) low noise amplifier (LNA) for K-band. This CMOS LNA with a cascade circuits can enhance the gain and bandwidth, source degeneration with inductor can suppress the Miller effect, and use the RC feedback network to maintain the gain flatness. The K-band LNA is dissipated with 13.698 mW power and achieves an input return loss (S11) of -17.8 ∼ -8.58 dB, output return loss (S22) of -17.8 ∼ -12.65 dB, flat forward gain (S21) of 4.3 ± 1.2 dB, and noise figure (NF) of 4.86 ∼ 6.3 dB over the 18 ∼ 27 GHz. The chip area is only 0.692 × 0.546 mm2 including the test pads. © 2011 IEEE.

Biological neural circuits at various levels exhibit rapid adaptability to diverse environmental stimuli. Such fast response times imply that adaptation cannot rely solely on synaptic plasticity, which operates on a much slower timescale. Instead, circuits must be inherently hyper-flexible and receptive to switches in functionalities without changes in network structure. This biological flexibility is a fruitful mechanism for constructing artificial reconfigurable circuits, whether they are spiking or non-spiking. In this study, we demonstrate that a four-neuron circuit can rapidly and controllably switch between 24 unique logical functions while maintaining the same set of synaptic weights. Moreover, we show that this reconfigurability works for several different underlying neuronal architectures and strikingly can be applied to a network composed of any sigmoid-shaped activation function. We conclude with proof-of-concept applications showing that we can perform standard tasks, such as a full-adder, as well as event-based conditional computing, such as detecting unexpected motion.

In this paper, we proposed two 13 GHz low noise amplifiers (LNAs) structure with TSMC 0.18 μm RF CMOS process. A cascode two-stage LNA achieves 9.9 dB of power gain (S21), 5.5 dB of the noise figure (NF), -32 dB of input return loss (S11), -5.2 dB of output return loss (S22), -8 dBm of the P1dB, and 6.66 mW of power consumption at 13 GHz, while consuming 3.7 mA by 1.8 V supply. The second LNA is a three-stage cascade LNA. Measured results show that the input return loss is -15.45 dB, the output return loss is -9.47 dB, the power gain is 9.34 dB, the isolation is -30.364 dB, the NF is 4.76 dB, the total power consumption is 26.64 mW, unconditional stability, the P1dB is -13 dBm, while consuming 14.8 mA by 1.8 V supply. The paper also discusses design considerations such as the effects of simulation, layout and circuit construction. © 2011 IEEE.

The aim of this paper is presented A Gilbert mixer with passive balun for 18 GHz application. It was used Taiwan Semiconductor provided by TSMC CMOS 0.18 μm process. We proposed mixer consists of Gilbert Cell, balun and the IF buffer amplifier. Finally, at the operation voltage of Vdd = 1.8 V, RF frequency =18 GHz, LO frequency =17 GHz, the conversion gain is about 8.6 dB, input P1dB and power consumption are about -9 dBm and 41.4 mW. The chip size including all testing pads is 0.76 × 0.59 mm2. © 2012 IEEE.

A single-chip implementation of Linear Predictive Coding (LPC)-based feature measurement for speech recognition, called the Feature Extracting digital Signal Processor (FXdSP), has been developed by programming the AT&T dSP20 ™ programmable digital Signal Processor (dSP) and has been verified by both numerical simulation and system use. For identical input, the recognition distance between floating point simulation and the dSP implementation was found to be negligibly small when compared with distances for word matches. The feature-measurement technique is identical to that used in numerical simulations of LPC-based isolated- and connected-word recognition using combinations of dynamic time warping, vector quantization, and hidden Markov modeling. As a result, the FXdSP represents a single-chip common building block for real-time implementation of most speech recognition techniques under investigation at AT&T Bell Laboratories. The FXdSP performs eighth-order LPC analysis on speech received from a standard COdEC. In every frame period (15 ms) it produces a feature vector consisting of the log energy, nine amplitude-normalized autocorrelation coefficients, and nine LPC-based test-pattern coefficients. The feature-measurement program requires 1023 locations of the 1024 available in on-chip program ROM, 211 of 256 available RAM locations, and 75 percent of available real time.

In this paper we discuss parameter estimation by means of the reestimation algorithm for a class of multivariate mixture density functions of Markov chains. The scope of the original reestimation algorithm is expanded and the previous assumptions of log concavity or ellipsoidal symmetry are obviated, thereby enhancing the modeling capability of the technique. Reestimation formulas in terms of the well-known forward-backward inductive procedure are also derived.
