The proposed smart system namely VidyaMedic utilizes continuous heart rate monitoring through sensors, with data transmission to the cloud via an IoT platform. Testing was conducted on a 40-year-old male participant who wore the Polar H10 heart rate monitor for 24 days. The heart rate profile captures the circadian rhythm, the natural internal biological clock governing cardiovascular and behavioral processes over a 24-hour cycle, influencing morning, daytime, and nighttime activities. Health conditions can be assessed using an algorithm which calculates the running sum of standard deviation for heart rate data over this period. Initially, standard deviation is computed for each data point, quantifying data dispersion from the mean. Subsequently, the running sum of standard deviation enables the detection of significant changes over time, abrupt fluctuations indicate outliers or extreme values, potentially impacting overall standard deviation and signaling significant data changes. Deviations from the expected or previous standard deviation values, marked by a regression coefficient less than or greater than 1, may suggest cardiac abnormalities or heart rhythm disturbances.

Small animals, such as rodents, are attractive options for investigating the intrinsic process of retinal degeneration. In this study, we used phase-sensitive optical coherence tomography to explore the comprehensive dynamics of rats’ outer retinas in response to visual stimuli. By calculating the temporal phase difference between different outer retinal bands, we revealed highly reproducible retinal dynamics, on the order of tens of nanometers, related to different parts of the outer retina. Our approach may pave the way for preclinical optoretinography study in small animals, facilitating clinical translations for the early detection of neurodegenerative diseases. © 2024 SPIE.

A Congestion Mitigation Model of Transmission Network Considering the Participation of Distribution Companies in Power Market

Transmission congestion management in the power market requires coordination of controllable resources in the transmission network. This paper focuses on the massive number of distributed power sources and responsive loads in power distribution companies (PDCs), and a bi-level optimal dispatch model with distribution companies as the main body participating in transmission congestion in the power market is proposed. In the transmission network model, the load of the PDC and the traditional generator set are dispatched to alleviate transmission network congestion under the condition of minimum cost. In the PDC model, the unit adjustment cost and user satisfaction of the distribution company are taken as the objectives to schedule the resource. Considering the competition and compensation relationship of objectives in the model, a new multi-objective solution method is proposed to realize the effective scheduling of resources in the PDC. Moreover, the analytical target cascading (ATC) method is employed in the bi-level model to decouple the transmission network and PDC model. Finally, to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed model, simulation studies are conducted on the T6D2 system. The stability and effectiveness of the model are verified by multiple comparisons. © 2021. All Rights Reserved.

In our study, we explore methods for detecting unwanted content lurking in visual datasets. We provide a theoretical analysis demonstrating that a model capable of successfully partitioning visual data can be obtained using only textual data. Based on the analysis, we propose Hassle-Free Textual Training (HFTT), a streamlined method capable of acquiring detectors for unwanted visual content, using only synthetic textual data in conjunction with pre-trained vision-language models. HFTT features an innovative objective function that significantly reduces the necessity for human involvement in data annotation. Furthermore, HFTT employs a clever textual data synthesis method, effectively emulating the integration of unknown visual data distribution into the training process at no extra cost. The unique characteristics of HFTT extend its utility beyond traditional out-of-distribution detection, making it applicable to tasks that address more abstract concepts. We complement our analyses with experiments in out-of-distribution detection and hateful image detection. Electronic devices have become an integral component in our daily activities. In fact, the consumption of electrical energy in households reached 49% in 2018, and is expected to increase to 58% in 2050. Concurrently, the LPG is the second highest consumed energy in the household and is expected to increase to 37% in 2050. However, the devices utilizing these energies could lead to a danger such as housefire if not operated and treated carefully. An Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart home monitoring system would solve this problem, especially by effectively monitoring several parameters in the house simultaneously. In this study, a system is built to monitor and control three rooms in the house independently and simultaneously. The sensors and/or actuators in all rooms are controlled by NodeMCU ESP8266s. All microcontrollers are linked via the Internet to a local server, where all data is analyzed, saved, and transmitted to the user using the MQTT protocol. The monitoring is done by the user via MQTT dashboard in the smartphone. Following testing, the three microcontrollers are fully capable of exchanging data with the user's smartphone. The humidity changed by 1%, while the temperature changed by 0.1 °C. Perfect data interchange is possible between the relays, flame, gas, and movement activity sensor.

Network coverage prediction is an important aspect of 4G network planning and optimization. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of the performance of various machine learning algorithms in predicting 4G network coverage. The data collected includes information on location, signal intensity, topography, and other important variables. Data pre-processing is performed to clean, normalize, and select relevant features. Next, we compared the performance of several machine learning algorithms, including Logistic Regression, KNN, Naïve Bayes, Decision Tree, SVM, XGBoost, AdaBoost, and Bayesian Network Classifier. The model training process is performed using subsets of training, validation, and testing data, with evaluation performed using various evaluation metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, RMSE, MAE, and R-squared. The experimental results show that Random Forest stands out with excellent performance, while Naïve Bayes tends to produce lower performance. The conclusion of this study provides valuable insights into the potential applications of machine learning algorithms in predicting 4G network coverage with accuracy and reliability.

Double remnant polarization (2Pr values are increased significantly from 17.1μC/cm2 to 39.9μC/cm2 by reducing the TiNx interfacial capping layer (ICL) thickness from 3 nm to 1 nm in the Ru/TiNx/Hf0.5 Zr0.5O2(HZO)/TiN structure owing to lower monoclinic (m) phase with respect to orthorhombic (o) plus rhombohedral (r) phases. These phases are observed by geometrical phase analysis (GPA) of high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM) images. An optimized 2 nm TiNx ICL ferroelectric memory shows lowest fatigue and mechanism is higher m-phase starting to grow from the HZO/TiN BE interface, which is evidenced in the HRTEM image after long endurance of 1011 cycles under high ±4 MV/cm, 0.5μs (remaining higher 2Pr value of 20μC/cm2). © 1980-2012 IEEE.

Barriers to the participation of distributed energy resources (DERs) in wholesale electricity markets have limited the use of DERs for power system security and resilience. In September 2020, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved an order to reduce these barriers. FERC Order No. 2222 enables the participation of DER aggregators in wholesale electricity markets. DERs include renewable generation and technologies that support the integration of renewable generation by increasing grid flexibility and resilience. Requiring wholesale energy markets to allow DER aggregator participation provides a path for DERs to become competitive in these markets. As the contribution from aggregated DERs continues to increase, the aggregator's role in supporting grid security and resilience will become more critical. This paper reviews work that demonstrates how DER aggregators can provide resilience support through technical capabilities, operational strategies, and secure communication architectures. Socioeconomic influences and impacts of aggregators, including implications for social resilience, are presented. In surveying the current state-of-the-art across different but interconnected topics, we illustrate how aggregators can be power system participants that enhance grid security. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to enhancing resilience in a power grid that includes a growing cohort of DER aggregators, but there are many options for aggregators to contribute to a more resilient and secure power grid. © 2023 IEEE.
