Let : D → C be an integrable holomorphic function on the unit disk D and D : D → T(D) the corresponding Teichmüller disk in the universal Teichmüller space T(D). For a positive t it is known that D(t) → [µ] ∈ PMLb(D) as t → 1, where µ is a bounded measured lamination representing a point on the Thurston boundary of T(D). We extend this result by showing that D: D → T(D) extends as a continuous map from the closed disk D to the Thurston bordification. The period variability of (O-C) diagram of an eclipsing binary, NSVS 14256825, which is composed of a hot subdwarf type OB star (sdOB) and a main-sequence low-mass type M star (dM) in close orbit with period P=0.110374 days, previously showed sinusoidal signal cause by the light travel time effects. This signal can be caused by the presence of third bodies. We re-examined (O-C) diagram of the system. We combined eclipse timings from published data and the data taken from ULTRASPEC at 2.4 m at Thai National Telescope on November 2018. From the fitting model, the parameters of the third body in NSVS 14256825 system are obtained.

Temperature is thought to be a key factor influencing global species richness patterns. We investigate the link between temperature and diversification in the butterfly family Pieridae by combining next generation DNA sequences and published molecular data with fine-grained distribution data. We sampled nearly 600 pierid butterfly species to infer the most comprehensive molecular phylogeny of the family and curated a distribution dataset of more than 800,000 occurrences. We found strong evidence that species in environments with more stable daily temperatures or cooler maximum temperatures in the warm seasons have higher speciation rates. Furthermore, speciation and extinction rates decreased in tandem with global temperatures through geological time, resulting in a constant net diversification. © 2024 The Authors

Electrical properties and microstructure of phase combination in BaTiO3-based Ceramics

Perovskite barium titanate (BaTiO3) ceramics are widely used in electronics industries such as capacitors, sensors and actuators. BaTiO3-based ceramics have good dielectric, ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties. BaTiO3 powder was fabricated by mixed-oxide method via a vibro-milling technique. The pellets were then placed in a high purity alumina crucible in air and sintered at 1375 °C for 1, 2, 4, 6 and 8h. X-ray diffraction technique was used to investigate phase formation of BaTiO3 ceramics. Grain size was measured by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The computer-controlled dielectric measurement system consisted of a high precision LCR-meter. Electric field induced polarization was measured by Sawyer-Tower circuit. In this work, the effect of phase combination in BaTiO3 ceramics on electrical properties (dielectric and electric field induced polarization) and microstructure was investigated.

Estimation of solar radiation using Angstrom-Prescott model and interpolation of empirical coefficients in Thailand

Angstrom-Prescott model, defined by , was applied to estimate solar L so J radiation for 11 meteorological stations in Thailand. In this research, the empirical coefficients ('a' and 'b') were calculated by using the least square model. Statistical values, i.e., root mean square error (RMSE) and correlation, were analyzed the model ability in estimating solar radiation by compared with the measurement. The empirical coefficients overall Thailand were interpolated by using geographic information system (GIS). This technique can be calculated for estimation of solar radiation in every region in Thailand. In the results, the statistical tests show the ability of Angstrom-Prescott model to estimate solar radiation in Thailand and the least square method is suitable for computing empirical coefficients.

OBJECTIVES:Most studies of body size perception have been performed in adolescents, and most focus on gender differences in accurate perception of body size. This study investigated misperceptions of body sizes among males and females at different stages of adulthood in Taiwan. DESIGNS:In-person home interviews were used to proportionally and randomly select 2095 adult men and women to answer the East Asian Social Survey. Participants were divided into 18-39, 40-64, and 65 + age groups. The main variables analyzed were self-perceived body size and standardized BMI. RESULTS:Women, unlike men, were more likely to misperceive their body size as being overweight (OR = 2.92; p < .001). People with higher self-perceived social status were less likely to misperceive themselves as overweight (OR = 0.91; p = .01). People with college educations were 2.35 times more likely to overestimate their body size as being heavier than they were (p < .001) and less likely to underestimate it as being thinner than they were (OR = 0.45; p < .001). Women 18-35 and 36-64 years old were 6.96 and 4.31 times more likely (p < .001) to misperceive themselves as being overweight than women 65 or older, who were more likely to misperceive themselves as being too thin. There were no significant differences in body size misperceptions among the three age groups of adult men (p > .05). We found no different significant discrepancies between self-perceived body size and actual BMI between the older men and women (p = .16). However, younger and middle-aged men were 6.67 and 3.1 times more likely to misperceive themselves as being too thin than women in their same age groups (OR = 0.15 and OR = 0.32, respectively). CONCLUSIONS:Age and gender affect self-perceptions of body size in Taiwan. Overall, women are more likely than men to misperceive themselves as being too big, and men are more likely than women to misperceive themselves as too thin.
