Assessment of regulating ecosystem services generated by green infrastructure: A case study of Bolzano, Italy

Sustainable cities is one of the key topics of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. SDG 11 promotes the goal that cities should be inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable human settlements. In this context, urban ecosystems, namely, Green Infrastructure (GI) can play a key role to enhance ecosystem services. GI improves ecosystem functioning and resilience, protects biodiversity, promotes societal health and well-being. The concept of GI in cities is becoming increasingly important in the development of urban policies since it improves the quality of life while mitigating the adverse effects of climate change. In this paper, we integrate biophysical method and monetary methods using i-Tree Eco software with about 12,000 trees within Bolzano, Italy. Model results are given for five assessed ecosystem services: 1) carbon storage, 2) carbon sequestration, 3) oxygen production, 4) avoided runoff, and 5) air pollution removal. Thus, our results show the significance of urban trees as a key element for better urban planning considering specific species contribution. The findings of this study will increase the awareness on the important role GIs play in urban systems to improve human well-being, informing policy-makers in charge of developing strategies to achieve impelling conservation actions and sustainability goals.

This study aims to investigate the impact of wind to players' perceived realism in digital games. In digital games, there is an ongoing and never ending quest for realism. As games keep getting more and more graphically demanding, game designers try to include senses in order to invoke realism. Perceived game realism is a multidimensional construct and while much attention has been given to visual fidelity, there are subtle elements in physical reality, such as wind blowing and floating dust, that contribute to the perception of realism. Previous studies have examined general aspects of realism in various genres of games, however the specific impact of wind in digital games remains largely unexplored. This study aims to address this gap by integrating real-time, dynamic wind simulation into a game environment and explore changes to the perceived realism of players. The research focuses on finding out which aspects of perceived realism are affected by adding dynamically simulated wind within a third-person shooter game context. The findings of this study contribute to understanding how wind simulation impacts perceived realism in digital games. The insights gained can inform game developers and designers in creating more immersive and realistically perceived game environments. By investigating the role of environmental wind in enhancing the sense of realism, this research advances our understanding of the multi-faceted nature of player engagement and the importance of incorporating multi-modal, realistically simulated elements in game design.

Leaving no Country Behind: A Fuzzy Approach for Human Development

"Leaving no one behind" (LNOB) constitutes one of the core principles underpinning the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. We propose a complementary fuzzy logic approach to identify countries left behind in human development and each of its dimensions. We find that the countries left furthest behind at the beginning of the century were those that most reduced gaps with respect to better performing countries after two decades. Nevertheless, we cannot clearly speak of convergence in human development. There are notable exceptions, such as the Central African Republic, Liberia, Yemen, Haiti or Venezuela, which despite the improvement in their Human Development Index worryingly increased their gaps in human development dimensions relative to the rest of the world. Our analysis highlights significant advantages of using the proposed fuzzy-based LNOB approach to incorporate the moral imperative of leaving no country behind in the measurement of human development.

Direct Synthesis of Dimethyl Ether on Bifunctional Catalysts Based on Cu-ZnO(Al) and Supported H3PW12O40: Effect of Physical Mixing on Bifunctional Interactions and Activity

We studied different preparation methods to synthesize a series of bifunctional hybrid catalytic systems for the direct synthesis of DME from syngas. The objective was to optimize the contact and interaction between the methanol synthesis catalyst and the methanol dehydration catalyst (Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 and H3PW12O40 supported on TiO2, respectively) by using different mixing methods (simple mixing, mixing-milling, suspension, and mixing-pressing). It has been found that the close contact between methanol synthesis and acidic functions is highly dependent on the degree of mixing of the two catalysts. In this respect, the hybrid catalyst prepared by mixing-pressing, which represents the closest contact, shows the strongest alterations in both catalytic functions. These modifications are associated with a decrease in copper surface area and a decrease in strong acid sites caused by the physical blocking of active sites or by cation exchange of the Cu2+/Zn2+ species from Cu-ZnO(Al) and the H+ from the H3PW12O40 units. The activity results demonstrated that the mixing-pressing method leading to a closer contact between the two catalytic functions led to a very low dimethyl ether time yield compared to the other bifunctional catalysts prepared by less severe mixing methods (19.4 vs 205-335 mu mol/min.g(cat)). This work clearly indicates the importance of the mixing method in the synthesis of the hybrid catalyst to optimize the distance and interaction between the metal and acid sites.

Purpose: Providing care to individuals with cancer requires oncology nurses to have superior skills related to physical care and adaptation to the changing healthcare system, as well as witnessing and supporting the psychosocial difficulties experienced by patients and families in this process. It requires oncology nurses to be psychologically resilient. Therefore, it is crucial to determine the factors affecting the psychological resilience of oncology nurses. This study aimed to determine the effect of self-compassion, metacognitions, and difficulties in emotion regulation on psychological resilience in oncology nurses. Methods: This is a cross-sectional correlational study. The study was conducted with 121 oncology nurses providing active oncologic care and who volunteered to participate. The Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale-Short Form, the Self-Compassion Scale, and the Metacognitions Questionnaire-30 were used to collect data. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression analysis. Results: The regression model established to determine the effect of self-compassion, metacognitions, and difficulties in emotion regulation on psychological resilience was statistically significant (F-(3,F-117) = 24.086 p < 0.001) and explained 36.6% of the change in resilience. Among the independent variables, only self-compassion had a significant contribution to the model (p = 0.001). According to the model, 1-unit change in self-compassion caused 0.571-unit change in psychological resilience. Conclusion: Self-compassion, metacognitions, and difficulties in emotion regulation were significantly related to psychological resilience, but only self-compassion significantly affected psychological resilience.

In recent decades, research has been developed to estimate near-shore bathymetry depth values using satellite imagery. Visible and infrared bands are used to derive elevation profile estimates, so to obtain bathymetric in rapid way without mobilisation of persons or equipment and saving the costs. For consequence, Satellite Derived Bathymetry (SDB) is seen as a valid approach for shallow waters survey: strongly supported by the activity of scholars and researchers, multiple methods are available in the literature. This article aims to investigate and compare different SDB methods for sea depth extraction from Sentinel-2 satellite multispectral images, with particular attention to the accuracy of the results. The experiments are conducted on imagery including Blue, Green, Red and Near Infrared bands, with 10 m resolution, concerning the Bay of Pozzuoli (Italy). After removing the glint, the effects caused by the reflection of sunlight through single scattering from sea surface, three methods are applied: Band Ratio method (BRM), 3rd-degree polynomial regression line method (3DPM), and principal component analysis method (PCAM). 3DPM can be seen as a variant of the BRM where the linear law that interprets the correlation between the band ratio values and the depth values is replaced by the third order function. Models are trained using depth data extracted from an Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) at 1:7,500 scale, which is also used to verify result accuracy. The experiments demonstrate that the 3DPM is better able to obtain a more precise bathymetric model, confirming the greater adaptability of the 3rd order function to interpretate the variability of the interaction of light with water along the water column.

It is becoming evident that failure to reconcile African Christians and Muslims is partly due to the misinterpretation of the African epistemology of peace. This work argues that Christian-Muslim peacemaking must be conceived apart from the Western epistemology (thinking pattern) whereby conferences, lectures, chart signing, religious fora, and systematic military strategies are common practices (Pezard and Shurkin, 2015). For Africans, peacemaking involves creating a space where members of a community connect with each other at a deeper level. This paper explores the process of reconciling African Christians and Muslims, not exclusively from a diplomatic tact and religious slant, but from intrinsic cultural constituents like the Africanubuntu(Murithi, 2006), Fulbe'spulaaku(Mogensen, 2000), and the Ethiopianmedemer(Esler, 2019) which are entrenched in the notion of kinship. A Fulbe proverb constitutes a tool for illustrating kinship and peace.

Hereditary Cancer Syndrome Carriers: Feeling Left in the Corner

Objectives: There is limited evidence on health promotion interventions in people with hereditary cancer syndromes or on their main sources of support and information. This study aimed to understand these patients ' experiences and needs, including their information needs, their views on prevention and mental health, and the support they want from nurses. Methods: This qualitative study included 22 people (8 previvors and 14 survivors) with hereditary breast and ovarian syndrome or Lynch syndrome from 10 European countries. Participants underwent individual semistructured interviews, which were recorded and transcribed for re flexive thematic analysis. The patient and public involvement panel provided input on study design and thematic analysis. Results: Patient experiences were similar regardless of the country and access to testing and screening. Participants reported receiving little information on the importance of health behaviors for cancer risk and expressed their wish to be followed by cancer professionals. They felt compelled to seek support and information from the internet and patient groups. The main themes identi fied were: (unmet) informational and support needs, seeing life in a different way, and limitations of health care providers. Conclusions: People with hereditary cancer syndromes need professionals to be involved in their long-term management and to provide reliable information. As genomics are increasingly integrated in oncology, the need for professionals to support these populations will increase. Implications for Nursing Practice: Nurses are crucial for promoting self -management and advocating for patient decision -making;however, they need skills and knowledge to do so. Impact of public guarantees on optimal debt levels following the COVID-19 pandemic: efficiency in their allocation

The COVID-19 pandemic triggered a sudden drop in companies' sales and turnover, which resulted in serious liquidity and solvency problems. In an effort to cushion these unfavourable effects, a credit guarantee plan was launched in 2020 by the Spanish Government to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 by injecting firms with liquidity. This paper seeks to analyse the impact of this public policy on SMEs' optimal debt levels and to examine whether the allocation of this public funding has been efficiently targeted at those SMEs suffering temporary distress as a result of the pandemic. Based on a sample of 3,305 Spanish SMEs, our results show that the government's interventionist policy swelled excess debt levels - mainly due to the increase in excess long-term debt - and deviated them from the optimum. Moreover, although these public guarantees should mostly have been aimed at SMEs experiencing a temporary decline due to COVID-19, we find that these SMEs were the least likely to receive liquidity injections.

In the Higher Education Sector (HES), we see increasingly Artificial Intelligent (AI) agents in the form of chatbots or interactive virtual agents indistinguishable from people and a unique example of human-machine interaction using natural language processing. They are becoming one of the main technological tools to ensure accreditation and e-learning, while providing better adaptive learning. This conceptual paper aims to examine the factors that affect the intention to use AI agents/chatbots for adaptive learning in HEI from a sociomateriality perspective taking into consideration the mcdonaldization effect. An extended UTAUT (Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology) model is proposed to be evaluated in the HES context.
