In this paper is presented a new method for accurately identifying the coordinates of the maximum power point on the IV curve. Based on the presented method are identified a set of analytical equations used for the evaluation of the coordinates of the maximum power point. The presented analytical relations ensure, under certain conditions, determination of the maximum power with a better accuracy of 1%. The maximum power point is evaluated based on a point at the intersection between a special line (d) and the I-V characteristic curve. Determination of the analytical relations is based on the explicit form of the I-V characteristic expressed with Lambert W-function.

This article discusses the issues of improving the quality of passenger service for urban passenger transport in major cities and megapolis. The analysis of various foreign and Russian sources of information relating to the comfort of transportation, show that it must be assessed by the level of occupancy on urban transport vehicles. The main content of the article is a description of the developed method for predicting the vehicle occupancy, which can be used to control and regulate level of the vehicle occupancy based on the established standard of quality of service. The method of forecasting is based on the use of actual data on the number boarding and alighting passengers at the stops of the route, formed by instrumental means. In order to assess the possibility of using analytical methods to predict the vehicle occupancy, four possible situations of passenger traffic on the route were identified and analyzed.

Pumped hydro energy storage schemes to support high RES penetration in the electric power system of Greece

According to Directive 2009/28/EC on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources, for Greece the target of RES penetration into gross final energy consumption in 2020 is set at 18%. The contribution of RES to energy consumption in Greece during the period 2006-2016 showed a significant increase. More specifically, the total contribution of RES as a share of gross final energy consumption in the year 2016 was 15.2%, more than doubling the relative share corresponding to RES in 2006. Similarly, the share of electricity from RES to gross electricity consumption in the year 2016 stood at 23.8%. In the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) prepared and submitted to the European Commission in January 2019 on the basis of Regulation EU) 2018/1999 on the governance of the Energy Union and Climate Action and Directive (EU) 2018/2001 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources, a target for the RES share in the gross final energy consumption in 2030 is set at 31%and respectively a target for the RES share in the gross final electricity consumption is set at 55%. More specifically, to achieve the above target in the electricity sector, it is estimated that more than 9GW of variable wind and photovoltaic (PV) plants must be installed. To reach such high levels of such RES penetration into the gross final electricity consumption, energy storage needs arise. For several decades, Pumped Hydro Energy Storage (PHES) is the most widespread international format for large-scale storage of electricity. This paper attempts to provide an overview of the status and prospects of PHES in Greece. It also tries to identify obstacles in installing and operating PHES in Greece using experience from other countries.

Accuracy of robots is an important facet in an industrial setting. In this paper, we present a novel kinematic calibration methodology. Traditional calibration techniques require an external metrology device. Unlike those, the presented product here is highly practical in that it does not require a metrology device. The kinematic calibration model is formulated by making use of the robot itself as a metrology device to measure the geometry of a known artifact. The optimal parameters/characteristics of the model are identified using a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique. Our experimental results show that this new approach provides results comparable to those generated using spatial information provided by a Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM). Using this new approach (GageCAL), the Yaskawa Motoman "MH5-Hi" robot is calibrated. Our experimental testing also indicates that this methodology can be extended to a wide variety of anthropomorphic robots.

Touchless Calibration (TCal) is introduced as a future development in calibration metrology. TCal is dealing mostly with decreasing the steps necessary to provide calibration traceability. Missing steps actually contribute to considerable decreasing of time and costs of calibration keeping the calibration traceability on high level. In the scope of Metrology for Industry 4.0, it could be one of the important improvements bringing increased effectiveness and efficiency for manufacturing industry. In this paper, the detailed explanation of overall process is provided.

The pyroelectricity of Poly vinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is improved by incorporation inclusions in it. The best inclusions properties (volume fraction, dielectric constant, pyroelectric coefficient, molecular weight and density) were determined, which increase the pyroelectrical coefficient and dipole moment of PVDF. For very small volume fraction (<0.035) and dielectric constant of nonferroelectric inclusion is slightly smaller than PVDF, the pyroelectric coefficient of PVDF composite increases. For pyroelectrical inclusion, the pyroelectric coefficient of PVDF composite can increase by three states. It increases for very small volume fraction (<0.035), very low pyroelectric coefficient and dielectric constant of pyroelectrical inclusion is slightly smaller than PVDF. In addition, it increases for very small volume fraction (<0.035), high pyroelectric coefficient and dielectric constant of pyroelectrical inclusion is slightly higher than PVDF. Beside it increase for high pyroelectric coefficient and very small dielectric constant of pyroelectrical inclusion. The maximum value of the dipole moment is obtained under the following conditions: very small volume fraction (<0.035), both inclusion density and dielectric constant is smaller than PVDF, and inclusion molecular weight is higher than PVDF, or also under those following conditions: high volume fraction, inclusion density is smaller than PVDF and both molecular weight and dielectric constant of inclusion are higher than PVDF.

Epilepsy is defined as a syndrome characterized by brain function momentarily and paroxysm manifested in the interruption or loss of consciousness, motor, sensory, psychology, autonomic motion, as well as the episodic. Major resistances should be faced are lack of the needed specialized physicians and expenditure to deal with the epilepsy treatment. This research is aimed at the development of a software to detect the epilepsy syndrome resorting to the recorded signals from 19 channels, namely the frontal pole 1, frontal pole 2, frontal 7, frontal 3, frontal z, frontal 4, frontal 8, central 3, central z, temporal 3, temporal 4, temporal 5, temporal 6, parietal 3, parietal 4, parietal z, occipital 1, occipital 2, out of which the means, variances, standard deviation, skewness, kurtosis, minimum, maximum, correlations, and total energies are listed to crop the specifically chosen 9 characteristics. The success of differentiating the epilepsy from the non epilepsy signal forms is done by employing the LSE followed by the PCA procedures. The classification methods are carried out specifically through the Back propagation Neural Network (BPNN) relying on its high precision, where the input vectors from the associated training processes are used as the associated weight vectors. Based on the final overall result, the records show that the PCA shows that the accuracy in the detection of epilepsies reaches 91.40 %,. The highest is 98.45% with the lowest accuracy is 80%. While without PCA the accuracy of the BPNN to detect epilepsy reaches 81.424%. The highest accuracy is 88.45% and the lowest accuracy is 70%.

In this paper we present two programs for underrepresented Spanish minorities: Model Institute for Excellence (MIE) and Broader Participation in computing-Alliance (BPC-A). MIE was a National Science Foundation funded program ran in Puerto Rico, whereas BPC-A was a project designed to impact Hispanic American institutions in Puerto Rico and the African Americans in the US Virgin Islands. Both programs enabled pre-college students to participate in early research, during which they learned from mentors how to conduct research using university facilities - going through the whole research cycle starting from documentation, formulation of a research question up to giving oral presentations or making posters, which were then presented in a research symposium. The programs also affected undergraduates through an intensive ten-week summer research program at partner institutions in both the US and internationally. Mentoring by faculty and peer mentoring produced very positive outcomes in transferring these undergraduates to graduate schools: over 300 Bachelor of Science degrees in Science, engineering, and Mathematics and 130 undergraduates went to graduate schools (70 Master of Science and 60 phd).
