Exposure to ambient air pollution component particulate matter (PM) in urban environments has been associated with adverse health effects to the exposed population. This study aimed to investigate the cytotoxic and inflammatory responses of lung A549 cells to ambient particulate matter (PM) extracts (EE) collected from a geographical site in south of city limits of Jackson, Mississippi. PM was collected from the site, extracted, and characterized for chemical composition and microscopic analysis using SEM. Following characterization, the EE was used to treat A549 cells, and various cellular responses were assessed. Our SEM analysis of EE indicated the presence of micrometer-sized particles, and elemental analysis indicated the presence of elements such as C, Si, Fe, S, N, P, and Ca. Cell viability decreased in a dose- and timedependent manner following exposure to EE. Inflammatory gene IL-1β, chemokine CCL-18 and MIP-1, and transcription factor NF-кB were upregulated by EE. EE also increased the level of ROS and mitochondria. In conclusion, our data indicates that EE is cytotoxic, inflammatory, and an oxidant to lung cells Also, the findings of the present study highlight the potential health risks associated with exposure to air pollution and inflammatory lung disease. © 2024 IAE All rights reserved.

The paper uses the technique called 'frequency and duration', a continuous-Time Markov chain, for evaluation of availability and reliability indicators of a hydroelectric power station using the operational data spanning 12 years (2010 ÷2021). The availability and reliability of individual units and for the entire power station are evaluated using failure rate λ, repair rate μ, Mean Time To Repair, Mean Time Between Failures, Mean Time To Failure, state probability, state frequency and departure rate. © 2023 IEEE.

In public life, the contract, which is one of the oldest legal instruments, is widely used to regulate relations related to the satisfaction of certain needs of participants in civil law relations. Property relations that develop at the stage of sale of manufactured goods, performance of work, provision of services is based on the construction of the contract. Property interest is secured by an agreement. A contract is an agreement between two or more persons on the emergence, change or termination of their civil rights and obligations. It can be seen from the definition that the interested parties in the contract are counterparties directly participating in it. Civil law relations arising under this agreement apply only to both of them and create relative legal relations. According to the principle of relativity, the contract, as a rule, obliges the parties that have concluded it does not affect third parties. Contracts concluded for the benefit of third parties are one of the very important exceptions to this principle. When it comes to cyber security, the characteristic contract made for the favour of a third party may involve the exchange, processing, or storage of sensitive information. This article discusses the features of the secure storage for contract concluded in favour of a third party as a subject of research. The secure MD5 fused AES algorithm is proposed here to improve data privacy and security in the storage. © 2023 IEEE.

In this study, nerve conduits of chitosan and collagen composites with biocompatibility and biodegradability were fabricated. The effects of material composition and surface morphology on the axonal growth and directionality of rat epinephric pheochromocytoma PC12 were investigated. The cells were separated by a PDMS structure to simulate nerve injury, and the growth of axons of PC12 cells was observed under the separation of large gaps. At the same time, mitochondria extracted from osteosarcoma cybrid cells (C2-GFP) were added to the culture to investigate the effect of healthy mitochondria on axon differentiation and growth. The experimental results showed that the chitosan-collagen composite film can promote the growth of PC12 axons more effectively than the pure chitosan film. Cell culture results at different groove widths also showed that smaller grooves resulted in more axon numbers and longer axon lengths. Nerve injury simulation experiments showed that the nerve repair could be almost completed after 12 days of culture. Copyright © 2024 by ASME.

This paper discusses the optimization of hyperparameters of the Multilayer Feedforward (MLF) Artificial Neural Network (ANN), for Automatic Incident Detection (AID) within freeway systems. The MLF model was developed and tested using simulated data generated from VISSIM traffic simulation software. The optimized hyperparameters include the number of hidden layers, the size of hidden layers, the learning rate, momentum, error epsilon, and training cycles. To reduce computational time, a stepwise approach was adopted to optimize these hyperparameters. The model's performance was evaluated based on the Fscore, which is the harmonic mean of the recall and precision metrics. This evaluation metric was used because the AID is an imbalanced binary classification problem, where normal instances are the majority class and incident instances are the minority class. The results showed that optimizing the hyperparameters of the MLF model resulted in a 0.79% improvement in the F-score of the model and a 0.32% improvement in the overall accuracy of the model. The near-optimal hyperparameters for the MLF model were determined to be 1 hidden layer with 35 neurons, a learning rate of 0.015, momentum of 0.9, an error epsilon of 1.00E-10, and 1000 training cycles. The study provides insights into optimizing the hyperparameters of ANNs for AID applications in traffic management systems, which can help improve the performance of such systems. The optimized model can be utilized by Traffic Management Centres (TMCs) to detect incidents accurately and in a timely manner, thereby reducing the negative impacts of traffic incidents and ensuring safe and efficient travel for drivers. © 2023 Computers and Industrial engineering. The search for novel multi-functional material has been on the rise for the past decades. These materials ought to possess flexible structures and tunable properties in order to be utilized for a variety of applications. Perovskite materials are predominantly used in solar cell applications due to their broad absorption spectrum, long carrier lifetime, and long transport distance of electrons and holes. Nevertheless, their unique and tunable properties allow for their utilization in a wide range of applications. In this work, a review on the application of perovskite materials in hydrogen production, supercapacitors, and optoelectronic devices is presented. The role of perovskite in the improvement of said applications is investigated, and future outlook and remarks are presented. This paper highlights the potential utilization of perovskite material outside the scope of photoelectric devices and solar cells. © 2023 IEEE.

The study aim was to determine the risk of Manual patient handling (MPH) in Shahroud public hospitals, Iran. A cross-sectional study was performed in Imam Hossein (IHospital) and Bahar (BHospital) with 21 wards. MPH risk assessment was performed using MAPO (Movement and Assistance of Hospital Patient) index. The ratio of operator to disabled patient (NC/Op and PC/Op), lifting, minor aid, wheelchair, environmental, and training factor are evaluated to calculate MAPO index. Among studied wards 57%, 33.3%, and 9.5%, respectively, were in the high, moderate, and low risk exposure level. The maximum MAPO score were 16.7 in CCU of IHospital. Emergency ward of BHospital had the highest score of 9.8 and PC/OP ratio 17.5. The most risk factors were minor aid (90.5%), lifting factor (71.4%), and PC/OP (66.7%). Immediate ergonomic action is recommended. © 2022 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Cultural heritage is a significant resource of knowledge that allows us to inform about and enhance such communities in the cultural tourism market. In this respect, it is important to explore, with the enhancement of cultural identity, by adopting a people-centred approach that matches the needs and wants of various segmentations of the visitors, the host community, and the heritage site. The research aims at introducing a proposed Natural Language Processing framework by adopting a grounded theory-based research agenda. The proposed framework suggests points of interest and related services enhancing the experience of the heritage site’s visitors along with three phases: (1) a pre-visit to set the level of expectations and satisfaction (need and wants) and ensure a high quality of respect a cultural diversity;(2) an in-situ-visit to boost the interaction between the visitors’ mentality and the manifestations of the site’s cultural identity;and (3) a post-visit to valorise positive word-of-mouth and create a lifelong learning memory. © 2023 CEUR-WS.
