Within the application of Six Sigma philosophy, the DMAIC methodology (D-Define, M-Measure, A-Analyse, I-Improve, C-Control) to analyse existing processes is used. The aim of this paper is to analyse the current state of the art of assessing the effectiveness of the implementation of manufacturing process improvement projects using this methodology. The methodology of the work was carried out according to the following steps: 1) identification of relevant data sources and keywords;2) definition of the timeframe;3) search of databases;4) analysis of the review and summary of the results obtained. The following databases were analysed as part of the study: Science Direct, Web of Science and Scopus from 2017 to 2022. The result of the re-search is the identification of performance indicators used in Six Sigma projects, which were related to the different phases of the DMAIC methodology. The result of the analyses is the identification of groups and areas of indicators that would allow the effectiveness of improvement activities to be assessed at each phase of a Six Sigma project using the DMAIC methodology. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

Intracellular delivery of therapeutic proteins has increased advantages over current small-molecule drugs and gene therapies, especially in therapeutic efficacies for a broad spectrum of diseases. Hence, developing the protein therapeutics approach provides a needed alternative. Here, we designed a mesoporous silica nanoparticle (MSN)-mediated protein delivery approach and demonstrated effective intracellular delivery of the denatured superoxide dismutase (SOD) protein, overcoming the delivery challenges and achieving higher enzymatic activity than native SOD-conjugated MSNs. The denatured SOD-conjugated MSN delivery strategy provides benefits of reduced size and steric hindrance, increased protein flexibility without distorting its secondary structure, exposure of the cell-penetrating peptide transactivator of transcription for enhanced efficient delivery, and a change in the corona protein composition, enabling cytosolic delivery. After delivery, SOD displayed a specific activity around threefold higher than in our previous reports. Furthermore, the in vivo biosafety and therapeutic potential for neuron therapy were evaluated, demonstrating the biocompatibility and the effective antioxidant effect in Neuro-2a cells that protected neurite outgrowth from paraquat-induced reactive oxygen species attack. This study offers an opportunity to realize the druggable possibility of cytosolic proteins using MSNs. © 2022 American Chemical Society.

The most direct challenge to the healthcare system in Taiwan associated with population aging is the chronic and growing shortfall in medical and nursing practitioners. The integration of artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, and advanced 5G communication technologies is making healthcare more streamlined and intuitive to improve healthcare service efficiency, encourage cross-disciplinary cooperation to improve patient health management, and introduce and mainstream innovative service models such as telecare. To this end, the wearable smart cardiac care system 'Vipasyana', jointly developed by the interdisciplinary research team of the Departments of Electrical engineering and Computer Science at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, not only has an innovative fully functional wireless wearable electrocardiograph but also uses machine learning-based detection/prediction methods to detect and monitor for emergencies such as myocardial infarction, ventricular tachycardia/ventricular fibrillation, and heart failure. To handle the real-time streaming sensing data generated during clinical trials, a big data real-time streaming framework based on Apache Storm and microservices has also been integrated. In addition, a mobile phone app and virtual reality 3D ward round system providing a user-friendly management and monitoring tool for medical staffs were developed and integrated into the system. The 'Vipasyana' system is capable of providing precision medical services to individual patients.

Cargo Autonomous Rendezvous and Velocity Adjustment/Navigation (CARAVAN): the engine behind the exploration and industrialization of the solar system via the electrolysis of water in orbit. It has been the dream of every space visionary to achieve lower-cost, sustainable space-based propulsion systems. Northrop Grumman and NASA have taken the initiative to make this vision a reality as part of the Artemis Campaign. Pushing the boundaries of existing launch vehicle capabilities necessitates for the first time an orbital-based maneuvering system capable of refueling from the ground or from NEO- or lunar- based sources. CARAVAN transfers satellites from low earth parking orbits to their operational locations;re-distributes satellites to alternative locations;provides end of life and debris mitigation services;and provides propulsion to the exploration and industrialization markets. This direct insertion capability allows manufacturers to increase payload mass while reducing reliance on high upper stage technology systems and inflated launch prices. The cryogenic CARAVAN will utilize the proposed OASIS (Operations And Service Infrastructure for Space) network of Spaceports providing services such as propellant and consumable replenishment and spacecraft repair and maintenance. From earth based applications such as telecommunications and navigation, to the technical challenges of extending human presence throughout the solar system, this network, coupled with the flexibility of the CARAVAN stage, will enable shorter mission durations and increased payload capacities. An architectural solution is proposed with an emphasis on engineering and orbital efficiencies. CARAVAN capitalizes on the orbital electrolysis of water. Reliable water transfer to the International Space Station is common and serviced by multiple launch vehicles requiring virtually no integration or insurance. Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) networks are high precision wireless interfaces that require design of accurate sensing, actuation, and processing devices. These devices include wireless electrocardiograph (ECG) sensors, electroencephalograph (EEG) sensors, wireless blood pressure monitoring devices, etc. Due to direct patient interface, these devices are required to have superior performance in terms of sensing accuracy, processing efficiency, and communication quality of service (QoS) parameters. A wide variety of models are proposed by IoMT researchers to perform this task, but each of these models vary in terms of network size, deployment complexity, cost of deployment, processing delay, etc. These models include machine learning routing techniques, blockchain based security methods, privacy preservation methods, high-precision sensor design methods, high-performance communication interfaces, etc. Due to such a wide variation in performance, IoMT network design requires continuous validation, which increases time-to-market, thereby increasing deployment cost. In order to reduce number of validations, a statistical survey of models for IoMT network design is discussed in this text. This discussion is focussed towards evaluating various characteristics, advantages, limitations, and future research scopes in existing models. readers would be able to identify best performing model(s) for a given IoMT application. It is followed by a statistical analysis of the reviewed IoMT network design models in terms of end-to-end delay, communication QoS, network security, scalability, computational complexity, cost of deployment, and application of use. This statistical performance evaluation will further assist readers to statistically compare the reviewed methods, and identify best performing model(s) their combinations for context-specific network deployments. Neurosurgery is a highly specialized field:it often involves surgical manipulation of noble structures and cerebral retraction is frequently necessary to reach deep-seated brain *** are still no reliable methods preventing possible retraction *** objective of this study was to design work chambers well suited for transcranial endoscopic surgery while providing safe retraction of the surrounding brain *** chamber is designed to be inserted close to the intracranial point of interest;once it is best placed it can be *** should guarantee an appreciable workspace similar to that of current neurosurgical *** experimental aspect of this study involved the use of a force sensor to evaluate the pressures exerted on the brain tissue during the retraction *** pterional craniotomy,pressure measurements were made during retraction with the use of a conventional metal spatula with different *** that,although the force values necessary for retraction and exerted on the spatula by the neurosurgeon are the same,the local pressure exerted on the parenchyma at the edge of the spatula at different inclinations varied greatly.A new method of cerebral retraction using a chamber retractor(CR)has been designed to avoid any type of complication due to spatula edge overpressures and to maintain acceptable pressure values exerted on the parenchyma.

Rapid urbanization and industrialization worldwide have been the ticking concern of the hour since it has led to a scarcity of conventional construction materials. The paving industry is posed with a challenge to strive for innovations in road construction being engrossed with the escalating awareness of sustainability and shortfall of natural resources. The humongous demand for energy efficient construction materials can only be met through the implementation of cost-effective environmentally appropriate technologies incorporating locally available alternative materials. Wastes from the industrial sector together with the construction and demolition wastes are another serious issue of concern in developing countries in lieu of its environmental impact and disposal problems posing stringent environmental laws. Recycling these wastes by incorporating in a versatile and indispensable construction material like concrete can serve as an attractive option for the road sector striking a chord of the economy both in terms of material acquisition and disposal costs. The backdrop of the present study lies in the use of different industrial waste and by-products as an alternative to the components of concrete in the production of paver blocks. Replacing the components of concrete like cement and aggregates with these alternative materials will help in saving energy and reducing the carbon footprints across the globe. The growing demand for handling sensitive data and high-bandwidth applications has made Data Center Interconnection (DCI) very important, as it provides high-bandwidth connectivity to improve efficiency. To address the increasing need for reliable, high-performance data transport, experts are evaluating the performance of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) integrated with Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexers (ROADM) system. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the optimal Optical Signal-to-Noise Ratio (OSNR) required for DWDM-ROADM system to transmit a 400 $\mathrm{Gb} / \mathrm{s}$ client interface operating at an $800 \mathrm{~Gb} / \mathrm{s}$ line-side rate. System configuration used a channel spacing of 150 GHz at a wavelength of $\mathbf{1 9 3. 1 5 0} \mathbf{~ T H z}$. Furthermore, OSNR performance evaluation was carried out by analyzing noise levels from Variable Optical Attenuator (VOA) and pre-Forward Error Correction (pre-FEC) setting. The results showed that DWDM-ROADM system required OSNR sensitivity value of $\mathbf{2 3. 1 5} \mathbf{d B}$ to ensure reliable $400 \mathrm{~Gb} / \mathrm{s}$ traffic transmission. This value was achieved at pre-FEC bit error rate (BER) of 0.02 and VOA attenuation of 8 dB, while capable of transmitting $400 \mathrm{~Gb} / \mathrm{s}$ of traffic. System performance was more stable at VOA level of 8 dB compared to 6 dB, where the traffic experiences errors at BER $1.63 \times 10^{-11}$. Finally, this study proposed a new test methodology for determining the minimum OSNR required for DWDM-ROADM system to reliably transmit $400 \mathrm{~Gb} / \mathrm{s}$ of traffic.
