Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), a major cause of paralysis, currently has no effective therapies. Every year almost 500.000 people are diagnosed with SCI worldwide. he difficulty on the neuronal restoration after SCI is based on the complex cascade of events that inexorably cause a degenerative chronic stage mainly favored by the non-permissive environment and limited capacity for axonal regrowth. RISEUP, an Europen project, proposes to attain neuronal functional regeneration after SCI by an unprecedented and unique bio-hybrid-compatible electro-activated and wireless rechargeable implantable technology. RISEUP introduces high voltage microsecond electric pulses stimulations and low amplitude direct currents on a combination of stem cells, induced neural stem cells (iNSCs) and multipotent stromal cells (MSCs), whose transplantation is facilitated by an innovative scaffold biomaterial (Fig.1).

Automatic Image captioning means the generation of a caption for an image by a machine. Image captioning is performed by recognizing objects, attributes and interconnection between them. This task involves computer vision for image understanding, natural language processing for syntax and semantics purpose and machine learning for caption generation. Preferably CNN is used to understand features of an image and RNN is used for sentence generation. Earlier, Machine learning approach was used for this purpose. Input data is used to extract the features in traditional machine learning. Extracting features like handcrafted from large dataset is not so easy and feasible. Later on, Various deep learning-based approaches were proposed. In deep learning, retrieval based and template-based methods were proposed but faced some issues like missing important objects and fixed length caption respectively. Then end to end learning approach based on deep learning network came into existence and image captioning task became more efficient. The objective of this paper is to study and compare various end to end learning-based framework for image captioning using standard evaluation metric and to understand how can these frameworks be used for various research applications. Along with the comparison, futuristic challenges have also been discussed.

Objective. The extraction and identification of single-unit activities in intracortically recorded electric signals have a key role in basic neuroscience, but also in applied fields, like in the development of high-accuracy brain-computer interfaces. The purpose of this paper is to present our current results on the detection, classification and prediction of neural activities based on multichannel action potential recordings. Approach. Throughout our investigations, a deep learning approach utilizing convolutional neural networks and a combination of recurrent and convolutional neural networks was applied, with the latter used in case of spike detection and the former used for cases of sorting and predicting spiking activities. Main results. In our experience, the algorithms applied prove to be useful in accomplishing the tasks mentioned above: our detector could reach an average recall of 69%, while we achieved an average accuracy of 89% in classifying activities produced by more than 20 distinct neurons. Significance. Our findings support the concept of creating real-time, high-accuracy action potential based BCIs in the future, providing a flexible and robust algorithmic background for further development. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Type 2 diabetes is an increasingly prevalent disease and patients do not always manage the disease properly. Therefore, creating tools that help diabetics self-manage their condition over time is of the utmost importance. Technological tools that include features meeting this population's needs, with an integrated personalized feedback system, in an environment of gamified incentives, may be the way for developing a sustained app's usage. This work aims to present a still in development, novel approach to managing diabetes type 2 with a focus on data analysis from user-inputs, gamification, and personalized coaching, with an accessible user interface. Thus, we will present some functionalities, in particular the theoretical and practical concept that is behind this development, namely the Transtheoretical model of behavior change to create different profiles, to provide customized feedback according to the user's behavioral stage, and also to ascertain if it induces any improvement at the behavioral level.

Cognitive motor dissociation describes a subset of patients with disorders of consciousness who show neuroimaging evidence of consciousness but no detectable command-following behaviours. Although essential for family counselling, decision-making, and the design of rehabilitation programmes, the prognosis for patients with cognitive motor dissociation remains under-investigated. The current study included 78 patients with disorders of consciousness who showed no detectable command-following behaviours. These patients included 45 patients with unresponsive wakefulness syndrome and 33 patients in a minimally conscious state, as diagnosed using the Coma Recovery Scale-Revised. Each patient underwent an EEG-based brain-computer interface experiment, in which he or she was instructed to perform an item-selection task (i.e. select a photograph or a number from two candidates). Patients who achieved statistically significant brain-computer interface accuracies were identified as cognitive motor dissociation. Two evaluations using the Coma Recovery Scale-Revised, one before the experiment and the other 3 months later, were carried out to measure the patients’ behavioural improvements. Among the 78 patients with disorders of consciousness, our results showed that within the unresponsive wakefulness syndrome patient group, 15 of 18 patients with cognitive motor dissociation (83.33%) regained consciousness, while only five of the other 27 unresponsive wakefulness syndrome patients without significant brain-computer interface accuracies (18.52%) regained consciousness. Furthermore, within the minimally conscious state patient group, 14 of 16 patients with cognitive motor dissociation (87.5%) showed improvements in their Coma Recovery Scale-Revised scores, whereas only four of the other 17 minimally conscious state patients without significant brain-computer interface accuracies (23.53%) had improved Coma Recovery Scale-Revised scores. His research focuses on science literature and media technologies. His books include Nanovision: Engineering the Future (2008) Mondo Nano: Fun and Games in the World of Digital Matter (2015) and Respawn: Gamers Hackers and Technogenic Life (2015). Katherine Buse is an assistant professor of Media Studies at the University of Chicago. Her research focuses on digital media the environmental humanities and the cultures of science and technology. Her current book project Speculative Planetology: Science Culture and the Building of Model Worlds tells the story of how the sciences and the arts co-constructed a toolkit for thinking about planets as whole systems. Ranjodh Singh Dhaliwal is Ruth and Paul Idzik College Chair in Digital Scholarship and an assistant professor of English and Film Television and Theatre at the University of Notre Dame. His work spans media theory science and technology studies and literary criticism. His current book project Rendering: A Political Diagrammatology of Computation shows how our cultural politico-economic and epistemic formulations crystallize into hardware and software architectures. Melissa Wills is a visiting scholar in the Department of Science and Technology Studies at the University of California Davis. She completed her PhD in English at UC Davis in 2021. Her research addresses the relationship between the life sciences and science fiction. Her current book project Ruptures: Life without Germs in the Microbiome Era examines microbiology's debt to the imagination of germ-free worlds. Raida Aldosari is the lead artist on the Foldit: First Contact development team. She received her BS in Nutrition Science from the University of California Davis in 2018. She has experience as a freelance graphic designer and as a project manager for nutrition training and courses.

This article explores the value of science fiction narratives in games for citizen science. Focusing on the protein-folding game Foldit, it describes the process of modifying and redesigning the game to feature a framing narrative and other alterations to the main tutorial campaign. The campaign narrative, Foldit: First Contact, situates the practices of citizen science in an expanded context of meanings and ethical implications, promoting critical self-reflection on the relations of science and civic values. A study of player responses to Foldit: First Contact suggests the significance of science fiction and critical game design for attuning citizen scientists to the collective responsibilities of experimentation and innovation, drawing attention to the intersecting social, technical, and environmental domains in which gamers may contribute to scientific research.

The publication in the introduction provides a overview of sources devoted to the analysis of the configuration and technology of the multiservice network. The purpose of the study is to analyze and study, simulate of model a multiservice network on the Packet Tracer program package, which is used for transmitting information based on the OSPF routing protocol to determine the value of information for a single time when the size of the ICMP packet increases. On the developed model, which consists of the structure of Internet technologies based on IP protocol and MPLS technology, the value of the transmitted packet is changed and the value of delay in the developed model is determined. Then, after analyzing the obtained values, as a result of the experiments, the value of information for a single time is determined when the value size of ICMP packet increases.
