The concept of smart building includes the optimization of energy usage in a building. One of the possible solutions for this is to adaptively adjust appliances utilization according to activity level in the building. Thus, an intelligent activity estimation system needs to be developed. However, massive annotated dataset is necessary to train the system. Therefore, we propose a system that enables rapid data annotation to collect the massive dataset. With the proposed system, an image can be annotated within 4.8 seconds in average. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This study aims to determine the effect of business strategy on the quality of accounting information, to determine the effect of leadership style on the quality of accounting information and to determine the effect of business processes on the quality of accounting information. This study uses primary data from a population of State-Owned Enterprises throughout Indonesia with a total sample of 61 state-owned enterprises, and is analyzed using a simultaneous equation estimation model or SEM (Structural Equation Modeling), the sample determination is done by purposive sampling. The results showed that (1) leadership style and business processes affect the quality of accounting information systems (2) business strategy has no effect on the quality of accounting information systems on accounting information systems at State-Owned Enterprises in Indonesia.

Distinct selectivity to the spin angular momenta of photons have garnered significant attention in recent years, for their relevance in basic science and for imaging and sensing applications. While nonlocal metasurfaces with strong chiral responses to the incident light have been reported, these responses are typically limited to a narrow range of incident angles. In this study, we demonstrate a nonlocal metasurface that showcases strong chirality, characterized by circular dichroism larger than 0.6, over a wide range of incident angles ±5o. Its quality factor, circular dichroism and resonant frequency can be optimized by design. These findings pave the way to further advance the development of valley-selective optical cavities and augmented reality applications. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Excessive exposure to sunlight, especially UV irradiation, causes skin photodamage. Sunscreens, such as TiO2 and ZnO, can potentially prevent UV via scattering, reflection, and absorption. Topical antioxidants are another means of skin photoprotection. Developing nanoparticles for sunscreens and antioxidants is recommended for photoaging prevention and treatment as it can improve uncomfortable skin appearance, stability, penetration, and safety. This study reviewed the effects of nano-sized sunscreens and antioxidants on skin photoprevention by examining published studies and articles from PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, which explore the topics of skin photoaging, skin senescence, UV radiation, keratinocyte, dermal fibroblast, sunscreen, antioxidant, and nanoparticle. The researchers of this study also summarized the nano-based UV filters and therapeutics for mitigating skin photoaging. The skin photodamage mechanisms are presented, followed by the introduction of current skin photoaging treatment. The different nanoparticle types used for topical delivery were also explored in this study. This is followed by the mechanisms of how nanoparticles improve the UV filters and antioxidant performance. Lastly, recent investigations were reviewed on nanoparticulate sunscreens and antioxidants in skin photoaging management. Sunscreens and antioxidants for topical application have different concepts. Topical antioxidants are ideal for permeating into the skin to exhibit free radical scavenging activity, while UV filters are prescribed to remain on the skin surface without absorption to exert the UV-blocking effect without causing toxicity. The nanoparticle design strategy for meeting the different needs of sunscreens and antioxidants is also explored in this study. Although the benefits of using nanoparticles for alleviating photodamage are well-established, more animal-based and clinical studies are necessary. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

Background Rare diseases can be difficult to diagnose due to limited patient data and broad genetic diversity. Despite the advances in variant prioritization tools, many rare disease cases remain undiagnosed. While large language models (LLMs) have performed well in medical exams, their accuracy in diagnosing rare genetic diseases has not yet been evaluated. Methods To identify causal genes for genetic diseases, we benchmarked various LLMs for gene prioritization. We employed multi-agent and Human Phenotype Ontology (HPO) classification approaches to identify patient case groups based on phenotypes categorizing them into different levels of solvability. To address LLM limitations in ranking large gene sets, we used a divide-and-conquer strategy to break down the ranking task into smaller subsets. Mini-batching inputs and limiting the number of generated tokens improved efficiency. Results In its vanilla form, GPT-4 consistently outperformed the other LLMs with an accuracy around 30%. Multi-agent and HPO classification approaches aided us in distinguishing between confidently-solved and challenging cases. In addition, we observed bias towards well-studied genes and input order sensitivity which are drawbacks of LLMs in disease-causal gene prioritization. Our divide-and-conquer strategy enhanced accuracy by overcoming positional and gene frequency biases in literature. This framework, based on benchmarking insights and novel techniques, significantly optimizes the overall process when identifying disease-causal genes for genetic diseases when compared to our baseline evaluation, and thereby better enables the development of targeted diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. Conclusions Using HPO classification and our novel multi-agent techniques, and our LLM divide-and-conquer strategy (1) highlighted the importance of accounting for differences in patient case solvability and (2) yielded improved performance in identifying causal genes for rare diseases when compare

Potential of intrusion during smart meter data collection is an important problem for household privacy in next-generation smart homes. There are various privacy protection methods such as hiding the real usage with renewable batteries (RBs) and encrypted communication. There are privacy threats due to the detection of the energy transfer through RBs while encryption-based methods result in high computational complexity. In this study, a novel privacy improvement mechanism is proposed based on the routing of energy through multiple smart meters among multiple houses in a neighborhood. The optimization of privacy based on uniform randomization is theoretically modeled and some heuristic solutions are presented. In this method, energy transfer is randomly distributed among multiple smart meters, real usage of a house is buffered with the RB and smart meter indices are randomly selected. In numerical simulations, privacy improvement is shown by utilizing the random selection of smart meter indices for randomizing the energy routing and the buffers of RBs. Furthermore, energy privacy (EP) metric validating the simulation results is defined. Energy routing with multiple smart meters provides a practical and low complexity privacy protection mechanism for next-generation smart grid architectures. © 2020 IEEE.

To strengthen conservation efforts for preserving biodiversity in a conservation area, forest inventory is important to understand the natural succession process in the area and to establish a monitoring strategy. Further, tree inventory aims to monitor the output yielded in the area. More specifically, the tree inventory in the watershed area plays a key role to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), especially in riparian zones which are also vital parts of green zones in forests. However, the traditional inventory approach is time-consuming and laborious therefore the development of an expert system to assist in inventory monitoring is required. In this study, we develop a monitoring system via a mobile application to collect, analyze and visualize tree inventory data. The application includes algorithms required to compute tree biodiversity, distribution, and richness for the given input of the data of all tree species in a conservation area. For the model validation stage, we compare the traditional inventory approach with our proposed application-based approach to compute diversity inventory in two riparian locations: Klaten Conservation Park and Wonosobo Conservation Park. After the three-day data collection in the areas, we obtain that the accuracy of reading data of our proposed system can achieve more than 90% in comparison with the manual approach. This demonstrates that the system can assist forestry workers to perform more efficient tree inventories in different locations.

The deployment of container-based services continues to increase as time passes, mainly due to its fast provision time and lower allocation overheads. Yet, the literature still neglects the performance degradation in containers due to multi-tenancy and service provider hardware over-commitment. This paper proposes a new hardware over-commitment detection for container orchestration environments, implemented twofold. First, the containerized hardware usage of deployed containers is continuously monitored in a non-intrusive manner, leveraging the container engine resource management interface. Second, collected features are used by a recurrent neural network model for detecting both container and service level hardware over-commitment, following a time-series rationale. Experiments run on a containerized Apache Spark distribution have shown that multi-tenancy and hardware over-commitment significantly affect its performance. In addition, our proposed model is able to detect hardware over-commitment with up to 91% of true-positive at the container level, and up to 93% true-positive at the service level.

Strong nonreciprocal acoustic extinction and asymmetric audibility from spinning fluid scatterers

Lorentz reciprocity places important constraints on the response of systems to wave excitations, and surpassing these constraints is of both fundamental and applied interest. In the context of scattering, reciprocity requires that the total extinction of an object is identical when excited from opposite directions, regardless of the asymmetry of the scatterer. Here, we demonstrate that, by combining multiple scatterers that break time-reversal symmetry, this extinction symmetry can be largely violated. We consider spinning cylinders, demonstrating that nonreciprocity must be paired with broken parity symmetry to enable large extinction contrast. As a dramatic example, we show a system that strongly scatters when excited from one side, but it is cloaked for the opposite excitation. Our results pave the way for approaches to asymmetric audibility and scattering manipulation, and they may readily translate to other wave domains.

The chemical screening of an octocoral identifed as Junceella fragilis has led to the isolation of five chlorinated briarane-type diterpenoids, including three known metabolites, gemmacolide X (1), frajunolide I (2), and fragilide F (3), along with two new analogs, 12α-acetoxyfragilide F (4) and 12α-acetoxyjunceellin (5). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis was carried out to determine the absolute configurations of 1 and 2, while the structures of new compounds 4 and 5 were ascertained with 2D NMR experiments. Briaranes 1 and 3-5 were active in enhancing alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity. © 2024 The Royal Society of Chemistry.
