In this paper, we study the large time asymptotic behavior of solutions to both the Cauchy problem and the exterior problem of the Stokes approximation equations of two dimensional compressible flows.

Buckling of an elastic linkage under nonconservative load is investigated. There is a related initial value problem, which is conservative and chaotic, and gives valuable aid in finding the buckled shapes of the linkage. To illustrate the equilibrium configurations, the bifurcation diagram is constructed, which turns out to be a distorted version of the bifurcation diagram of the linkage under a conservative load.

The Cauchy problem of the generalized Korteweg-de Vries-Benjamin-Ono equation is considered, and low regularity and limit behavior of the solutions are obtained. For k = 1, local well- posedness is obtained for data in H^s(R)(s 〉 -3/4). For k = 2, local result for data in H^S(R)(s 〉1/4) is obtained. For k = 3, local result for data in H^S(R)(s 〉 -1/6) is obtained. Moreover, the solutions of generalized Korteweg-de Vries-Benjamin-Ono equation converge to the solutions of KdV equation if the term of Benjamin-Ono equation tends to zero.

Spiral waves and spatiotemporal chaos usually are harmful and need to be suppressed. In this paper, a method is proposed to control them. Travel wave trains can be generated by periodic excitations near left boundary, spiral waves and spatiotemporal chaos can be eliminated by the trains for some certain excitation periods. Obvious resonant behavior can be observed from the relation between the periods of the trains and excitation ones. The method is against noise.

The dynamical character for a perturbed coupled nonlinear Schrodinger system with periodic boundary condition was studied. First, the dynamical character of perturbed and unperturbed systems on the invariant plane was analyzed by the spectrum of the linear operator. Then the existence of the locally invariant manifolds was proved by the singular perturbation theory and the fixed-point argument.

In the context of the recently developed “equation-free” approach to computer-assisted analysis of complex systems, we extract the self-similar solution describing core collapse of a stellar system from numerical experiments. The technique allows us to sidestep the core “bounce” that occurs in direct N-body simulations due to the small-N correlations that develop in the late stages of collapse, and hence to follow the evolution well into the self-similar regime.
An alternating direction finite element scheme for a class of moving boundary problems is studied. Using coordinate transformations of the spatial variants, a new domain independent of the time is obtained and an ADFE...
