When quantum dots meet blue phase liquid crystal elastomers:visualized full-color and mechanically-switchable circularly polarized luminescence

Polymer-based circularly polarized luminescence(CPL)materials with the advantage of diversified structure,easy fabrication,high thermal stability,and tunable properties have garnered considerable ***,adequate and precise tuning over CPL in polymer-based materials remains challenging due to the difficulty in regulating chiral ***,visualized full-color CPL is achieved by doping red,green,and blue quantum dots(QDs)into reconfigurable blue phase liquid crystal elastomers(BPLCEs).In contrast to the CPL signal observed in cholesteric liquid crystal elastomers(CLCEs),the chiral 3D cubic superstructure of BPLCEs induces an opposite CPL ***,this effect is entirely independent of photonic bandgaps(PBGs)and results in a high glum value,even without matching between PBGs and the emission bands of ***,the lattice structure of the BPLCEs can be reversibly switched via mechanical stretching force,inducing on-off switching of the CPL signals,and these variations can be further fixed using dynamic disulfide bonds in the ***,the smart polymer-based CPL systems using the BPLCEs for anti-counterfeiting and information encryption have been demonstrated,suggesting the great potential of the BPLCEs-based CPL active materials.

Indonesia was declared the world's fourth-largest coffee bean producer in 2020 and yields consistently increase each year. Indonesia also has the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 01-2907-2008, which specifies various defects with the defect scores of coffee beans that determine their quality. Common coffee bean defects listed in SNI 01-2907-2008 include black beans, broken black beans, partly black beans, and brown coffee beans. These defects degrade the quality and affect the market value. Previous studies have proposed computer vision systems as a non-invasive testing method for grading coffee beans based on trained images. However, obtaining the detail in a single bean image based on the region of interest could have been more comprehensively explained in those studies, making them less informative and requiring a more detailed conceptual breakdown. This study describes several coffee beans captured as images using a digital camera with a specific field of view, F/25 f-number, 1/60s exposure time, ISO400, and a lighting system reaching 12,000 lux. These images are processed based on the region of interest and centroid, resulting in single bean images with a resolution of 220 x 220 pixels ready for training. The samples used in this study are Robusta Lampung coffee beans, which are commonly found in Indonesia and exhibit various types of defects based on the criteria in SNI 01-2907-2008, such as black beans, broken black beans, partly black beans, and brown coffee beans. © 2023 IEEE.

Urban traffic congestion presents critical challenges, resulting in delays, environmental pollution, and significant economic costs. While traditional traffic control methods, such as fixed-time and adaptive systems, have been widely implemented, they often fail in unpredictable conditions, particularly when confronted with noisy or inaccurate data. This research proposes a robust reinforcement learning (RL) solution for traffic signal control using the RADIAL-DQN (Robust Adversarial Loss DQN) algorithm. Integrating adversarial training enhances the system's robustness to real-world uncertainties. Evaluations conducted using a SUMO traffic simulation show that the robust agent produced an increase of only 60.71% in queue length under a projected gradient descent (PGD) adversarial attack, outperforming standard RL agents, which experienced an 89% increase. These results demonstrate the potential of robust RL to improve both the reliability and scalability of urban traffic control systems. © 2024 IEEE.

The increasing number of autonomous vehicles will result in a safety factor that must be maintained. One of the crucial prerequisites for this is proper localization, especially at intersections where most road accidents occur each year. This research is proposed to improve the localization process, which has drawbacks such as the inaccurate Global Positioning System (GPS) when satellite signals are blocked, and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR), which is expensive and needs heavy computing time. This is done by implementing the High Definition Map (HD Map) method, which maps the condition of an area that is stored as memory on an autonomous vehicle computer. The proposed system uses a monocular camera to be processed into a semantic segmentation feature map at the pixel level, then uses point cloud to reconstruct a 3D intersection model, which is then segmented semantically as well so that position data is obtained after merging using the occupancy grid and scoring function. The results of this CNN-based approach localization produce less accuracy and Mean Intersection over Union (MIoU) values with 60% average accuracy and 62.3 MioU when compared to GPS data and other 3D semantic segmentation systems, but the proposed approach can save costs and computational burden. © 2023 ICROS.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the quadrotor type are widely used in both civilian and military applications due to their superior maneuverability, lower manufacturing costs, and the absence of crew risk. This has led to an increased demand for control and navigation systems that enable autonomous operation, allowing quadrotors to follow desired flight paths and avoid obstacles. In this study, an obstacle detection and avoidance system for an autonomous quadrotor was designed and implemented. The obstacle detection system can detect obstacles up to 7 meters away with a mean average precision (mAP) of 89.63%. The position estimation system can estimate obstacle positions up to 6 meters on the y-axis and 1.2 meters on the x-axis, with average errors of 0.146 meters and 0.019 meters, respectively. The flight route planning system uses the A* algorithm to calculate the shortest path to the target while avoiding obstacles. Based on test results, the quadrotor successfully detects obstacles, estimates their positions, determines the optimal flight route, and follows it with a mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.101 meters, demonstrating reliable autonomous operation.

Increasing global trade requires fast and accurate container transfers by minimizing positional errors and swing angles on the Rubber Tyred Gantry Crane (RTGC) at the container yard causing that the optimization of the controller is a necessity. Currently developing artificial intelligence, namely reinforcement learning based Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) approach, can provide continuous action or output that can be used for controller optimization problems. DDPG can learn from its interactions with the environment, allowing it to identify the best optimal parameter region. This paper proposes DDPG as an PID controller optimizer for position and swing angle of RTGC tested on six episode variations and a trajectory reference. The results garnered from this proposed methodology reveal that the optimal PID parameters perform well across a spectrum of reference trajectories, as well as under varying system parameters such as container masses and rope lengths, as demonstrated by metrics like position and swing angle error, rise time, settling time, and overshoot. © 2023 ICROS.

Northern Thailand is home to several Arabica coffee-growing regions, including Mae-kampong, Teentok, Mae-lord, and Monngo Valleys, whose coffees are featured throughout this study. These coffees have distinct aromas and flavors due to their varied cultivation locations, which are influenced by unique climatic conditions. The purpose of this paper is to comprehend the aroma of coffees brought from various locations and roasted under the same conditions. Our lab-made electronic nose (e-nose) was used to digitalize and analyze the smell of coffee. In order to monitor the coffee scent throughout roasting and assess how similar the aromas of coffee samples taken from various locations are to one another, principal component analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis were used. It was found that our e-nose system is an effective tool for determining the geo-location of the coffee origin as well as for quality control of coffee production. © 2023 IEEE.

Present global maps of soil water retention(SWR)are mostly derived from pedotransfer functions(PTFs)applied to maps of other basic soil *** an alternative,'point-based'mapping of soil water content can improve global soil data availability and *** developed point-based global maps with estimated uncertainty of the volumetric SWR at 100,330 and 15000 cm suction using measured SWR data extracted from the WoSIS Soil Profile Database together with data estimated by a random forest PTF(PTF-RF).The point data was combined with around 200 environmental covariates describing vegetation,terrain morphology,climate,geology,and hydrology using *** total,we used 7292,33192 and 42016 SWR point observations at 100,330 and 15000 cm,respectively,and complemented the dataset with 436108 estimated values at each *** cross-validation yielded a Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)of6380,7.112 and 6.48510^(-2)cm^(3)cm^(-3),and a Model Efficiency Coefficient(MEC)of0.430,0386,and 0.471,respectively,for 100,330 and 15000 *** results were also compared to three published global maps of SWR to evaluate differences between point-based and map-based mapping ***-based mapping performed better than the three map-based mapping approaches for 330 and 15000 cm,while for 100 cm results were similar,possibly due to the limited number of SWR observa-tions for 100 *** sources or uncertainty identified included the geographical clustering of the data and the limitation of the covariates to represent the naturally high variation of SWR.

Bioethanol has many functions both as a chemical, food and as a source of energy. The development of bioethanol production is currently leading to the residue of the main product. So that in this study the biomass of arena or Arenga Pinatta was used with a large availability of waste. Therefore, a performance and economic analysis was carried out in the production of bioethanol from palm biomass with ionic liquid (IL) using SuperPro Designer (SPD) Software. As a preparatory stage, the process of testing the characteristics of the biomass is carried out to obtain the most optimal composition of palm sugar in bioethanol production. After simulating the conditions according to the experimental process on the most optimal palm biomass composition, it was found that the most optimal Ionic Liquid (IL) and biomass ratio was at 0.5 g/g with the ethanol concentration obtained at 90.6 g/L at 13 hours which corresponds to theoretical yield of 96% conversion of biomass to ethanol. Meanwhile, the production of ethanol in a factory for energy can minimize the price of ethanol by 30% from the initial price. Thus, with the abundant availability of biomass, bioethanol production with aren biomass has the potential to be developed in Indonesia. © 2023 Institute of physics Publishing. All rights reserved.
