The decline in physical, cognitive, and sensory functions for most elderly people leads to the development of several health issues such as memory loss, a tendency to fall, dizziness, and reduced ability to care for oneself independently. These can be mitigated using devices designed to monitor vital signs and human activity such as a smart band. However, the application of a smart band is characterized by a disadvantage which involves storing user data in the vendor's cloud and only one device can access the client applications. Therefore, nurses, doctors, and family members cannot simultaneously analyze data and receive alerts when abnormal conditions occur in elderly patients. This study aims to develop a system capable of monitoring the health conditions of multiple elderly individuals and sending alerts during abnormal conditions based on the heart rate value read by the smart band sensor. The process involved installing a database on the Raspberry Pi to store data while a monitoring system was built on the Node-RED platform to display elderly health data and made it accessible locally. The detection of an abnormal heart rate condition in the elderly patient leads the system to send notifications via telegram to multiple receivers registered in the system using their telegram identity.

Hydroxyapatite (HA) is one of the potential biomaterials used for treating dental defects. It can be incorporated with fluoride to enhance its anti-caries properties, though other properties could be dependent on processing technique. Hence, this study aims to characterize the influence of sintering on the properties of fluoride-added HA derived from eggshells. FTIR and XRD techniques are used to characterize the chemical and crystal structures of the samples, whilst dissolution test is carried out to characterize material degradation in the acidic environment. The results show that sintering increased the crystallinity in both HA and fluoride-add HA (F-HA) samples, which corresponds with the enhanced stability during the dissolution test. Moreover, it is also found that the addition of fluoride could further stabilize the material structure, though the impurities found in all the samples still need to be minimized. These findings suggest that sintering and fluoride addition could potentially enhance anti-caries properties of eggshell-derived HA, which could be beneficial for dental application in future subject to further process optimization and analysis.

Natural disaster nowadays often occur in Indonesia due to climate change, especially those related to atmospheric dynamics anomalies. The statutory event of atmospheric turbulence statistically is quite significant in its improvement. This is an important issue to conduct research both in the analysis of atmospheric dynamics and early detection solutions for these events. The Windshear phenomenon is an atmospheric turbulence disaster that occurs below an altitude of 3000 feet, often known as low level windshear (LLWS), which is very dangerous for planes taking take-off or landing. Its effect on the aircraft will result in increased airflow on the wings, so this increased airflow will result in a sudden increase in aircraft speed. If the pilot is not aware of the indication of the windshear, he will instinctively throttle back to reduce/compensate for the aircraft's speed. However, once the plane passes through the wind shear zone, the wind suddenly turns into a downdraft. The design of windshear early detection devices have been developed to complement research on the dynamics of the atmosphere. The results obtained are anomalous changes in temperature and atmospheric pressure at this time, and the windshear sensor can detect it well. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

We introduce a new in-plane radiation mechanism that can occur in artificial or natural low-dimensional materials, which can be viewed as the "flatland" analog of conventional leaky-wave radiation. We show that this concept can be physically realized in suitably designed planar junctions of purely reactive, isotropic metasurfaces supporting line waves. Our results provide a new tool for manipulating surface waves, which can find interesting applications in the emerging field of van der Waals polaritonics.

The present study presents a regression function for optimum tilt angle for fixed mode flat-plate solar harvesters suitable for different locations in Libya, sky conditions and albedo values. The research based on 14 years -15 minutes time series solar irradiation components which provided by Solargis database platform for 24 different locations in Libya, based on the contract signed between the Solargis Company and Wadi AlShatti University. Several transposition models are applied - corresponding to each location - for estimating the tilted global solar irradiance components according to recommendation of a local recent study. The proposed model corrects the optimum tilt angle by involving the three components of the solar irradiation: direct beam, sky-diffused and ground reflected solar irradiances. The results proved the applicability and reliability of the obtained regression model. In addition, results showed the high potential of the proposed model for use in engineering design, eco-energetic analysis and optimum design processes. © 2023 IEEE.

A single-phase cubic high entropy spinel (HES) (CoCrFeMnNi)3O4 was microwave synthesized by a polymer-based method. The complete microwave-synthesis took no longer than 2 hours. The HEŚs were characterized by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). After calcination of 800 and 900 °C, the powders showed nanostructured cubic single-phases. The band gap energy (Eg) of the microwave irradiated HES was 2.2 eV compared to the 2.45 eV of the conventionally calcined. These Eg values indicate application possibilities in the field of catalytic reforming of carbon dioxide as a promising catalyst with tunable properties. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Increasing the mobility and power-electronics figure of merit of AlGaN with atomically thin AlN/GaN digital-alloy superlattices

Alloy scattering in random AlGaN alloys drastically reduces the electron mobility and therefore the power-electronics figure of merit. As a result, Al compositions greater than 75% are required to obtain even a two-fold increase of the Baliga figure of merit compared to GaN. However, beyond approximately 80% Al composition, donors in AlGaN undergo the DX transition which makes impurity doping increasingly more difficult. Moreover, the contact resistance increases exponentially with increasing Al content, and integration with dielectrics becomes difficult due to the upward shift of the conduction band. Atomically thin superlattices of AlN and GaN, also known as digital alloys, are known to grow experimentally under appropriate growth conditions. These chemically ordered nanostructures could offer significantly enhanced figure of merit compared to their random-alloy counterparts due to the absence of alloy scattering, as well as better integration with contact metals and dielectrics. In this work, we investigate the electronic structure and phonon-limited electron mobility of atomically thin AlN/GaN digital-alloy superlattices using first-principles calculations based on density-functional and many-body perturbation theory. The band gap of the atomically thin superlattices reaches 4.8 eV, and the in-plane (out-of-plane) mobility is 369 (452) cm2 V-1 s-1. Using the modified Baliga figure of merit that accounts for the dopant ionization energy, we demonstrate that atomically thin AlN/GaN superlattices with a monolayer sublattice periodicity have the highest modified Baliga figure of merit among several technologically relevant ultra-wide band-gap materials, including random AlGaN, β-Ga2O3, cBN, and diamond. Disordered hyperuniform materials are an emerging class of exotic amorphous states of matter that endow them with singular physical properties, including large isotropic photonic band gaps, superior resistance to fracture, and nearly optimal electrical and thermal transport properties, to name but a few. Here we generalize the Fourier-space-based numerical construction procedure for designing and generating digital realizations of isotropic disordered hyperuniform two-phase heterogeneous materials (i.e., composites) developed by Chen and Torquato [Acta Mater. 142, 152 (2018)] to anisotropic microstructures with targeted spectral densities. Our generalized construction procedure explicitly incorporates the vector-dependent spectral density function χ̃V(k) of arbitrary form that is realizable. We demonstrate the utility of the procedure by generating a wide spectrum of anisotropic stealthy hyperuniform microstructures with χ̃V(k)=0 for k∈Ω, i.e., complete suppression of scattering in an “exclusion” region Ω around the origin in Fourier space. We show how different exclusion-region shapes with various discrete symmetries, including circular-disk, elliptical-disk, square, rectangular, butterfly-shaped, and lemniscate-shaped regions of varying size, affect the resulting statistically anisotropic microstructures as a function of the phase volume fraction. The latter two cases of Ω lead to directionally hyperuniform composites, which are stealthy hyperuniform only along certain directions and are nonhyperuniform along others. We find that while the circular-disk exclusion regions give rise to isotropic hyperuniform composite microstructures, the directional hyperuniform behaviors imposed by the shape asymmetry (or anisotropy) of certain exclusion regions give rise to distinct anisotropic structures and degree of uniformity in the distribution of the phases on intermediate and large length scales along different directions. Energy efficiency optimization for backscatter enhanced NOMA cooperative V2X communications under imperfect CSI

Automotive-Industry 5.0 will use beyond fifthgeneration (B5G) technologies to provide robust, computationally intelligent, and energy-efficient data sharing among various onboard sensors, vehicles, and other devices. Recently, ambient backscatter communications (AmBC) have gained significant interest in the research community for providing battery-free communications. AmBC can modulate useful data and reflect it towards near devices using the energy and frequency of existing RF signals. However, obtaining channel state information (CSI) for AmBC systems would be very challenging due to no pilot sequences and limited power. As one of the latest members of multiple access technology, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) has emerged as a promising solution for connecting large-scale devices over the same spectral resources in B5G wireless networks. Under imperfect CSI, this paper provides a new optimization framework for energy-efficient transmission in AmBC enhanced NOMA cooperative vehicle-to-everything (V2X) networks. We simultaneously minimize the total transmit power of the V2X network by optimizing the power allocation at BS and reflection coefficient at backscatter sensors while guaranteeing the individual quality of services. The problem of total power minimization is formulated as non-convex optimization and coupled on multiple variables, making it complex and challenging. Therefore, we first decouple the original problem into two subproblems and convert the nonlinear rate constraints into linear constraints. Then, we adopt the iterative sub-gradient method to obtain an efficient solution. For comparison, we also present a conventional NOMA cooperative V2X network without AmBC. Simulation results show the benefits of our proposed AmBC enhanced NOMA cooperative V2X network in terms of total achievable energy efficiency. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this work, we evaluate the feasibility of a simplified approach of performing MR-based attenuation correction (MRAC) by generating AC PET images directly from non-attenuation corrected (NAC) PET and MR images using a machine learning model known as conditional generative adversarial network (cGAN). We evaluate this approach for the head and neck region of a PET/MR and PET/CT dataset. We trained and tested a model converting MR Dixon Water, MR Dixon Fat, and NAC PET (multi-channel input) to AC PET. Our model achieved a mean pixel value difference of 2.06% in the head and neck region, NRMSE of 1.29%, PSNR of 37.55, and SSIM of 0.97 compared to the true AC PET images determined by CT-based attenuation correction. These metrics are a large improvement compared to the NAC PET images which had a mean pixel value difference of 5.35%, NRMSE of 3.27%, PSNR of 28.80, and SSIM of 0.85 when comparing to AC PET.
