Van der Waals ferromagnets are an intersting class of materials for exploring fundamental physics of magnetic order in the 2D limit as well as for technological applicaitons due to possibility of creating novel heterostructures. These materials have shown to host magnetic skyrmion lattices with their organization controlled by the magnetic properties such as anisotropy, exchange, and Dzyaloshinkii-Moriya interaction. For technological applications, it is also necessary to understand to the behavior of skyrmions in response to electric currents. In this work, we show the effect of electric current pulses on the magnetic skyrmions formed in Fe3GeTe2which has a Curie temperature of 220 K. We demonstrate via real-space in situ imaging using Lorentz transmission electron microscopy (LTEM) the effect of temperture and pulse width. © 2023 SPIE.

We study the carbon dioxide reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR)activity and selectivity of Fe single-atom catalyst(Fe-SAC)and Fe dual-atom catalyst(Fe-DAC)active sites at the interior of graphene and the edges of graphitic nanopore by using a combination of DFT calculations and microkinetic *** trend of limiting potentials for CO_(2)RR to produce CO can be described by using either the adsorption energy of COOH,CO,or their ***_(2)RR process with reasonable reaction rates can be achieved only on the active site configurations with weak tendencies toward CO *** efficiency of CO_(2)RR on a catalyst depends on its ability to suppress the parasitic hydrogen evolution reaction(HER),which is directly related to the behavior of H adsorption on the catalyst’s active *** find that the edges of the graphitic nanopore can act as potential adsorption sites for an H atom,and in some cases,the edge site can bind the H atom much stronger than the main Fe *** linear scaling between CO and H adsorptions is broken if this condition is *** condition also allows some edge active site configurations to have their CO_(2)RR limiting potential lower than the HER process favoring CO production over H2 production.

This paper proposes a pulse skipping based combined frequency and duty ratio control for a series resonant converter which is targeted for voltage regulator applications. The proposed pulse skipping control combines duty ratio based phase shifted control for maintaining output voltage at its reference value, along with frequency based control which assists in development of the pulse skipping algorithm. This algorithm is structured so that pulses are skipped in generated gate pulses for upper switching devices present in the converter whenever the output voltage tries to be higher than its specified maximum value or be lower than its specified minimum value. These maximum and minimum voltages are determined based on its reference voltage and allowable voltage ripple within which the oscillations in output voltage are desired to be in. The converter system with the proposed control method is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink environment to validate its performance under transient conditions e.g., variation in load resistance and output voltage reference. The system performance with proposed method is also compared with conventional method where the proposed control demonstrates its superiority by significantly minimizing the output voltage ripple.

The research was conducted in Kabonena village, which aims to see the subsurface structure and the liquefaction potential. The research was conducted using the geoelectric resistivity method with the Wenner system. The parameters used are geological data, hydrogeology and formation values to obtain between the resistivity value and the lithology of the study area. Furthermore, by considering the geological, hydrogeological conditions and formation factor values, the specific resistance values for each layer are interpreted. The results obtained show that the layers with specific resistance values of 39.16 - 97.9 Ωm are dominated by water-saturated sand/gravel. The resistivity value above 97.9 - 200 Ωm is the layer of molasses and alluvium deposits/coastal deposits, and the resistance value above 200 Ωm is the layer of crushed granite and granodiorite. The existence of a subsurface structure like this, so that in Kelurahan Kabonena it is called a liquefaction event. The location has a layer of saturated air that points to the east with a depth of less than 24 meters. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Developing high sensitivity multiparametric medical imaging tools constitutes one of the main research topics in radionuclide *** time-of-flight positron emission tomography (TOF-PET) scanners have shown potential in this context. One of the most attractive solutions that have been proposed to improve the coincidence time resolution (CTR) of TOF-PET scanners includes exploiting the small population of promptly emitted light photons (i.e., Cherenkov photons). Bismuth germanate (BGO) is a legacy detection material for PET which exhibits a moderate Cherenkov yield. which new advancements in ultra-violet (UV) light sensitive photosensor technologies and associated detection techniques can exploit for fast timing. It has been demonstrated that exploiting the BGO-Cherenkov component may simultaneously facilitate high 511 keV photon detection sensitivity with excellent CTR, thus enabling high sensitivity, low cost TOF-PET systems. Accessing the timing information from these Cherenkov photons requires enhanced photodetector technology combined with low noise and fast readout electronics, as well as specific data post-processing *** this summary, we report the CTR evaluation of different length BGO crystals coupled to UV enhanced SiPMs and custom designed electronics. Average CTR values of 156 ± 6, 188 ± 5, 228 ± 8 and 297 ± 8 ps CTR FWHM have been achieved for 3 × 3 × 3, × 5, × 10, and × 15 mm3 BGO crystal with chemically processed surface finishes. © 2022 IEEE.

MAZENET: AN ACCURATE, FAST, & SCALABLE DEEP LEARNING SOLUTION FOR STEINER MINIMUM TREES

The Obstacle Avoiding Rectilinear Steiner Minimum Tree (OARSMT) problem, which seeks the shortest interconnection of a given number of terminals in a rectilinear plane while avoiding obstacles, is a critical task in integrated circuit design, network optimization, and robot path planning. Since OARSMT is NP-hard, exact algorithms scale poorly with the number of terminals, and so practical solvers sacrifice accuracy for large problems. We propose and study MazeNet, a deep learning-based method that learns to solve the OARSMT from data. MazeNet re-frames OARSMT as a maze-solving task that can be addresssed with a recurrent convolutional neural network (RCNN). A key hallmark of MazeNet is its scalability: we only need to train the RCNN blocks on mazes with a small number of terminals;mazes with a larger number of terminals can be solved simply by replicating the same pre-trained blocks to create a larger network. Across a wide range of experiments, MazeNet achieves perfect OARSMT-solving accuracy, with significantly reduced runtime compared to classical exact algorithms, and with the ability to handle larger numbers of terminals than state-of-the-art approximate algorithms. © 2024, CC BY.

Spin nematic order and superconductivity in J1−J2 Kondo lattice model on the square lattice

We investigate competition and cooperation of magnetic frustration and the Kondo effect in the J1−J2 Kondo lattice model on the square lattice at zero temperature. In this model, the frustrated interactions J1,J2 between the localized spins stabilize spin nematic orders, while the Kondo coupling favors local spin singlets. Using the slave boson mean field approximation, we find that the spin nematic order remains stable against small Kondo coupling, and the localized spins and the conduction electrons are effectively decoupled. On the other hand, a standard Fermi liquid state is formed for sufficiently strong Kondo interactions. Furthermore, in an intermediate region with moderate Kondo coupling, the spin nematic order and the Kondo effect coexist, and superconducting pairing of the conduction electrons is induced by the spinon pairing. We discuss the ground state phase diagram and nature of the quantum phase transitions between the different superconducting states.

Fictitious magnetic fields can be introduced in quantum magnets by strain engineering and the Aharonov-Casher effect. Here, we study impacts of a uniform fictitious magnetic field and corresponding Landau quantization on the Néel order in the S=12 Heisenberg model on the square lattice as a prototypical system of quantum magnets. We first analyze the system by using the spin-wave approximation. It is found that the staggered magnetization is enhanced by the fictitious magnetic field and it shows a simple scaling behavior with respect to the magnetic length, in contrast with a naive expectation based on the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. We also perform density-matrix-renormalization-group calculations to fully consider quantum effects and obtain quantitatively more accurate results. The enhancement is found to be anomalously strong, and it shows a nontrivial scaling behavior or a fluctuation induced discontinuity. These results are beyond the well-known understanding of correlated systems under magnetic fields called the magnetic catalysis.

This research explores the use of a modified infrared (IR) camera equipped with a high-pass filter to distinguish between natural objects (vegetation) and artificial objects (synthetic military uniforms) in an environment where vegetation makes objects difficult to detect. In military operations, especially guerrilla warfare in tropical forests, detecting enemies camouflaged in vegetation makes it difficult to distinguish targeted objects. Visible light cameras usually struggle to distinguish between synthetic and natural colors. This methodology involves the use of Python programming and various libraries, such as Computer Vision (CV), to process images captured by modified cameras. A graphical user interface (GUI) was developed to analyze color values, focusing on the red, green, and blue spectra. The results show that the modified IR camera can more effectively separate synthetic and natural object color peaks compared to a standard visible light camera, offering potential applications in military reconnaissance and sniper operations. This research demonstrates how image processing can improve object detection in complex environments. © 2024 IEEE.

In this study, an obstacle avoidance maneuver with sigmoid function optimization is applied on the path following control of the Autonomous truck-trailer. The accumulation of trailers and traffic density become obstacles in the lanes traversed by trailer trucks. A control design is needed that can perform obstacle avoidance actions in the form of optimal path changes. In the application of a path-following autonomous truck-trailer, the avoidance path reference must be dynamically adjusted to bring the system to a lane change. The optimization of the sigmoid function was proposed to obtain the optimal obstacle avoidance path reference based on the traction speed and steering angle. The MATLAB Fmincon Nonlinear programming function is used to get the optimal solution which affects the concavity and distance of the turning path to the obstacle. The optimal turning path is integrated with the Lyapunov stability-based path follower control. This is intended to obtain a global asymptotic stable condition both under normal conditions and to avoid obstacles. Simulation is done by comparing the path pattern of the optimized and unoptimized sigmoid curves. The simulation results show the optimal turn path based on the mean of orientation angle and traction velocity in addition to the value of the performance index. © 2021 IEEE.
