We study impurity effects in the spin nematic phase of the S=1/2J1−J2 frustrated spin chain under an external magnetic field by using the infinite density matrix renormalization group and bosonization. It is found that local magnetization almost saturates around the impurity, and the entanglement entropy nearly vanishes at the corresponding bonds, not only when the magnetic interactions near the impurity are weakened but also when they are strengthened compared to those in the bulk. Then we examine spin correlations and Friedel oscillations induced by the impurity. The bosonization provides a qualitative understanding of the characteristic behaviors of the magnetization. We also discuss impacts of the impurity on experiments by focusing on NMR spectra.

This article presents a method for indirectly measuring the moisture content of paddy using a cylindrical capacitive sensor combined with Charge Integrator Circuits. The moisture measurement device operates based on the principle of the dielectric constant of paddy, which changes according to the moisture content within them. The system consists of a moisture detection section utilizing a cylindrical capacitor, a signal generator operating at a frequency of 500 Hz with a microcontroller, a signal conditioning circuit converting the signal to voltage, and a processing unit. Testing was conducted with paddy at five different moisture levels, demonstrating the ability to accurately determine the moisture content of the rice. When compared to the commercially available PM-450TH moisture meter, the results showed a linear response across the measurement range, with an R 2 value of 0.9824 and an average error of 2.6%. This technology has the potential for further development and application to other types of seeds in the future.

Oxide heterostructures based on SrTiO3 have emerged as a rich platform for exploring physical phenomena, most notably conductivity at interfaces between insulators. In this study, we investigate the electronic properties of an oxide-semiconductor heterostructure—SrTiO3 films grown epitaxially on Si(001). The lattice mismatch induces epitaxial strain, breaking the cubic symmetry of SrTiO3 and resulting in tetragonal distortion. Magnetotransport measurements reveal that the temperature and magnetic field dependence of the conductivity are dominated by two-dimensional quantum effects, weak localization, and electron-electron interactions. The low-temperature electronic properties indicate quantum confinement, strong electron correlations, exchange interactions, and Zeeman spin splitting. These findings underscore the potential of the SrTiO3/Si heterostructure for designing oxide-based quantum devices.
