The recent emergence of user generated content requires new content creation tools that will be both easy to learn and easy to use. These new tools should enable the user to construct new high-quality content with minimum effort;it is essential to allow existing multimedia content to be reused as building blocks when creating new content. In this work we present a new tool for automatically constructing virtual worlds with minimum user intervention. Users can create these worlds by drawing a simple sketch, or by using interactively segmented 2D objects from larger images. The system receives as a query the sketch or the segmented image, and uses it to find similar 3D models that are stored in a Content Centric Network. The user selects a suitable model from the retrieved models, and the system uses it to automatically construct a virtual 3D world.

Fast Ionization Wave (FIW), nanosecond pulse discharge propagation in nitrogen and helium in a rectangular geometry channel / waveguide is studied experimentally using calibrated capacitive probe measurements. The repetitive nanosecond pulse discharge in the channel was generated using a custom designed pulsed plasma generator (peak voltage 10-40 kV, pulse duration 30-100 nsec, voltage rise time ~1 kV/nsec), generating a sequence of alternating polarity high-voltage pulses at a pulse repetition rate of 20 Hz. Both negative polarity and positive polarity ionization waves have been studied. Ionization wave speed, as well as time-resolved potential distributions and axial electric field distributions in the propagating discharge are inferred from the capacitive probe data. ICCD images show that at the present conditions the FIW discharge in helium is diffuse and volume-filling, while in nitrogen the discharge propagates along the walls of the channel. FIW discharge propagation has been analyzed numerically using quasi-one-dimensional and two-dimensional kinetic models in a hydrodynamic (drift-diffusion), local ionization approximation. The wave speed and the electric field distribution in the wave front predicted by the model are in good agreement with the experimental results. A self-similar analytic solution of the fast ionization wave propagation equations has also been obtained. The analytic model of the FIW discharge predicts key ionization wave parameters, such as wave speed, peak electric field in the front, potential difference across the wave, and electron density as functions of the waveform on the high voltage electrode, in good agreement with the numerical calculations and the experimental results. © 2011 by Igor V. The improved of texture classification accuracy by using the probability weighted combination method of three texture features extraction consist of thE0020 Gray-Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM), Semivariogram Function and Gaussian Markov Random Fields (GMRFs). Five different textures images are used in the experiment. The classifier that use for classify the extracted features in this research is Support Vector Machines (SVMs). The experimental result shows that the average accuracy of the combination method with probability weight up to 95.71%, which is better than the simple combination method about 2%.

In this study, we focus on the development of energy efficient and achievable load balancing mechanisms for wireless sensor networks. Due to resource constraint and tremendous amount of sensors, one possible way of achieving maximum lifetime of the network is applying data aggregation on sensor data. However, existing approaches introduce significant computation and control overheads that often not suitable for sensor networks applications. In view of this, we propose an in-network data aggregation scheme by exploiting the inherent spatial correlation of the sensed data. Each sensor multiplies its reading with a random coefficient and sends the product to the next hop to calculate a weighted sum of all the massage. Instead of receiving individual sensor readings, the sink will receive all weighted sum and restore the original data. By doing so, each node only performs one addition and one multiplication in order to compute one weighted sum and consume the same amount of energy. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme is efficient and outperforms existing schemes in terms of energy gain and network lifetime. © 2011 Asian Network for Scientific Information.

Successive interference cancellation (SIC) is an effective way of multipacket reception (MPR) to combat interference in wireless networks. To understand the potential MPR advantages, we study link scheduling in an ad hoc network with SIC at the physical layer. The fact that the links detected sequentially by SIC are correlated at the receiver poses key technical challenges. We characterize the link dependence and propose simultaneity graph (SG) to capture the effect of SIC. Then interference number is defined to measure the interference of a link. We show that scheduling over SG is NP-hard and the maximum interference number bounds the performance of maximal greedy schemes. An independent set based greedy scheme is explored to efficiently construct a maximal feasible schedule. Moreover, with careful selection of link ordering, we present a scheduling scheme that improves the bound. The performance is evaluated by both simulations and measurements in testbed. The throughput gain is on average 40% and up to 120% over IEEE 802.11. The complexity of SG is comparable with that of conflict graph, especially when the network size is not large.

In this paper, we compare registration results obtained using different diffusion maps extracted from diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). Fractional Anisotropy (FA) and Ellipsoidal Area Ratio (EAR) are two diffusion maps (indices) that may be used for image registration. First, we use FA maps to find deformation matrix and register diffusion weighted images. Then, we use EAR maps and finally we use both of FA and EAR maps to register diffusion weighted images. The difference between FA values before deformation and after registration using the FA alone or EAR alone has a median of 0.57 and using both of them has a median of 0.29. Therefore, the results of registration using both of the FA and EAR indices are superior to those obtained using only one of them alone.

Summary form only given. During plasma processing of microelectronic devices, plasma exposure can cause damage to dielectric materials, resulting in defects in the thin dielectric layer. Effects of plasma exposure on defect concentrations in high- and low-k thin dielectric films deposited on high-resistivity silicon were measured with electron-spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy. For high-k dielectric films, plasma parameters, including pressure and power, were varied to minimize the defect concentrations. For low-k dielectric films, during argon electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) plasma exposure, ion and photon bombardment increased the measured defect concentrations. Dielectric samples with various dielectric constants were examined showing that as the value of the dielectric constant was lowered, the defect concentrations were shown to increase significantly. To investigate further the nature of the defect concentrations and locations, defect states in different dielectric materials with crystalline and amorphous structures were investigated with two models, the Broer model and the Bloch model. For crystalline structures as in hafnium oxide, the defects were found to fit well with the Broer model due to strong local magnetic-field-orientation dependency. In amorphous materials, for example, organosilicate glass, the defects were found to fit to the Bloch model as seen in the field-broadening effects. Using the two models, the behaviors of the defects can be explained as a result of electron spins.

This paper aims to design a wearable terrain recognition system, which might assist the control of powered artificial prosthetic legs. A laser distance sensor and inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors were mounted on human body. These sensors were used to identify the movement state of the user, reconstruct the geometry of the terrain in front of the user while walking, and recognize the type of terrain before the user stepped on it. Different sensor configurations were investigated and compared. The designed system was evaluated on one healthy human subject when walking on an obstacle course in the laboratory environment. The results showed that the reconstructed terrain height demonstrated clearer pattern difference among studied terrains when the laser was placed on the waist than that when the laser was mounted on the shank. The designed system with the laser on the waist accurately recognized 157 out of 160 tested terrain transitions, 300ms-2870ms before the user switched the negotiated terrains. These promising results demonstrated the potential application of the designed terrain recognition system to further improve the control of powered artificial legs.

In traffic monitoring applications, traffic speed is an important parameter of traffic management. The method for traffic speed measurement using video based on Spatio-Temporal (ST) model and frequency domain analysis is proposed in this paper. This method is designed to be able to measure the traffic speed in every pattern of road. The novel of proposed method is unfolding the edge information on ST model and analyse them in frequency domain to determine traffic speed. The proposed method is evaluated by compare with actual speed. The traffic speed is measured accurately 97.1%.

This paper investigates the potential uses of graphene nanomechanical devices for NEMS applications fabricated using Helium Ion Microscope (HIM). Suspended nanomechanical graphene drum structures of diameter (~2 - 3 μm) and thickness ranging from few atomic layers (~10 Å) to about 11 nm have been fabricated and characterized using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The initial suspension profile and the thickness of the fabricated structures have been obtained using AFM. FEM results suggest that these structures can vibrate in the range of several MHz. Their small size and the higher operating frequencies make them well suitable for mass sensing applications with sensitivities greater than 10 -21 g Hz -1 which is more than three orders of magnitude improvement over silicon based structures. The initial suspended graphene membranes have been patterned using HIM to obtain multiple z-axis flexures with sub-10nm feature sizes.
