Coverage analysis and handover strategy in RF/VLC heterogeneous networks

Coverage analysis in heterogeneous networks (HetNets) remains insufficient, especially under user mobility and diverse association strategies. To address this, this paper proposes a contact probability and coverage approximation based on association strategy (CPCA-AS) to analyze the coverage probability (CPr) in visible light communication (VLC) and radio frequency (RF) HetNets. Based on the proposed stochastic geometry framework, CPCA-AS evaluates coverage performance under various configurations, including RF-only, VLC-only, and hybrid RF/VLC scenarios. The model incorporates a contact probability mechanism and considers two strategies: opportunistic VLC and maximum received signal power (MRSP). For VLC networks, CPCA-AS utilizes the Gil-Pelaez inversion theorem, and Laplace transforms to efficiently approximate CPr. For RF networks, Markov and Gamma inequalities form conservative accurate approximations and lower bounds. CPCA-AS effectively captures the influence of the photodetector’s field-of-view (FoV) on interference and association behavior. Monte Carlo simulations validate the accuracy of the CPCA-AS. Results demonstrate that CPCA-AS improves CPr. The opportunistic VLC strategy performs better in high-interference and large FoV scenarios. In contrast, the MRSP strategy is more effective in low-interference and low-rate environments. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group. As a cause of interfering with routine activities, freezing of gait (FOG) is a severe syndrome of Parkinson's disease (PD) and usually performs as an abrupt and momentary inability to effective stepping forward. Advanced wearable acceleration sensors based on socially implemented Internet of medical things (IoMT) devices can remotely provide a platform for recognizing FOG. However, due to the diverse data acquisition modes that appear in classic IoMT devices, the obtained data may contain imprecise, hesitant, and incomplete ones. Meanwhile, the bounded rationality owned by neurologists usually has a big impact on using wearable acceleration sensors to predict illnesses. Therefore, the objective of this article lies in exploring a fuzzy intelligence learning approach based on bounded rationality in IoMT systems and providing a valid scheme for biomedical data analysis. Specifically, a brand-new three-way group decision-making approach by means of TODIM (an acronym in Portuguese for interactive multicriteria decision-making) with incomplete dual hesitant fuzzy (DHF) information and its applications in detecting FOG in PD using IoMT devices are systematically explored. First, taking advantage of DHF sets (DHFSs) when depicting realistic group decision information, the concept of multigranulation (MG) incomplete DHF information systems is built. Second, adjustable MG DHF probabilistic rough sets (PRSs) are further put forward via DHF similarity relations. Third, a three-way group decision-making approach is constructed by virtue of adjustable MG DHF PRSs and TODIM. Finally, the validity, effectiveness, and practicality of the constructed three-way group decision-making approach are investigated by a University of California, Irvine (UCI) dataset with several experimental analyses in the background of FOG detection in PD using IoMT devices. The experimental result indicates that the developed fuzzy intelligence learning approach achieves reasonable diagnostic conclusions

This paper models a platooning system consisting of trucks and a third-party service provider (TPSP), which performs platoon coordination, distributes the platooning profit in platoons, and charges trucks in exchange for the services. Government subsidies used to incentivize platooning are also considered. We propose a pricing rule for the TPSP, which keeps part of the platooning profit including the subsidy each time a platoon is formed. In addition, a platoon coordination solution based on the distributed model predictive control (MPC) is proposed, in which the pricing rule under government subsidies is integrated. We perform a realistic simulation over the Swedish road network to evaluate the impact of the pricing rule and subsidies on the achieved profits and fuel savings. Our results show that subsidies are an effective mean to boost fuel savings from platooning. Moreover, the simulation study indicates that high pricing corresponds to a low platooning rate of the system, as trucks' incentives for platooning decrease. © 2023 The Authors. The pansharpening of high-resolution panchromatic (Pan) image and low-resolution multispectral (MS) images represents an important task in the remote sensing field. It allows the joint exploitation of the information derived from both types of images. However, this may cause a distortion of spectral information or a lack in details and structures. The multiresolution analysis using wavelet transforms has proved its efficiency in the pansharpening domain, due to the representation of the image content over different resolution levels. In image fusion applications, we always need more detail information to be incorporated in the pansharpening procedure in order to produce enhanced results. However, the limitation of the wavelet transform to three types of oriented detail coefficients prevents this need from being met. To overcome this limitation, we propose to use the redundant contourlet transform (RCT) which extracts a richer multiscale directional information from the image. For this purpose, two RCT-based pansharpening methods are introduced and suitable data fusion procedures are described. We conducted several experiments on two different datasets acquired respectively by ALSAT-2A and IKONOS satellites. The visual results as well as quantitative results from evaluation metrics demonstrate the performance of the proposed methods. © 2023 IEEE.

Because of rapid growth of multimedia data over the Internet, the infobesity has been emerging in recent years. Many recommender systems (RSs) have been proposed using a variety of techniques, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistical analysis, and data mining. Nowadays, E-commerce companies such as Amazon, eBay, Netflix, etc. have applied RSs conveniently to provide better customer services than before by enabling customized multimedia-content recommendations. It is well known that classical RSs are almost all based on the user-item attribute matrices. However, this two-fold user-item relationship should be extended to the emerging many-fold relationship among an arbitrary number of attribute groups so that the corresponding new RSs may lead to better performances. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce a novel personalized multimedia recommender system (PMRS) according to our proposed new parallel higher-order tensor singular-value-decomposition (PHOTSVD) algorithm. This PHOTSVD algorithm is capable of accommodating an arbitrary number of entities such as social-media channels, users, queries, webpages, etc. in a robust RS. Furthermore, we also investigate the cold start and data bias problems critical to RSs. Finally, we compare the performances of our proposed new PMRS and three other existing tensor-based RSs over realworld data with respect to the well-adopted metric, namely normalized root-mean-square error (NRMSE). Our proposed new PMRS greatly outperforms the other three existing tensor-based RSs in terms of NRMSE. © 1963-12012 IEEE.

This paper presents an intelligent system for monitoring energy usage in smart buildings. It functions as a bridge between the smart grid and smart buildings. A web-based platform is designed to monitor sensor data and track power consumption on the grid. AI technology provides tips for energy conservation based on factors such as power usage patterns and weather conditions. The adaptability of our approach allows for the tuning of automated protocols based on evolving power usage patterns and grid conditions. Data is transmitted between the client devices and the central server via a Zigbee network organized in a star formation, allowing for mutual communication. Our implementation results in the improvement of the overall energy efficiency of supported infrastructure while ensuring continuous and optimized operation in case of a bulk grid blackout.
