The oxidative coupling polymerization of p alkoxyphenols with Mn(acac)2ethylenediamine catalysts was carried out. The polymerization of pmethoxyphenol with the manganese(II) acetylacetonate [Mn(acac)2]N,N’diethylethylene diamine catalyst in CH2Cl2 at room temperature under an O2 atmosphere afforded a polymer, which mainly consists of the mphenylene unit, whereas the polymer obtained with Mn(acac)2 was rich in the oxyphenylene structure. The polymer yield and regioselectivity were significantly affected by the monomer and catalyst structures. The former catalyst system was also used for the coupling reaction of 2methoxy 4methylphenol. The corresponding carboncar bon coupling product was isolated with a regioselectivity of 95%.

Nano-fibrillated cellulose (NFC) has the potential to be produced from wood fibers at low costs. To determine the potential of NFC to be used as a coating material, the characteristics of several NFC coated samples on a synthetic fiber sheet are reported. Two water-based printing methods were used to characterize the change in print quality. Two types of NFC were prepared by two different physical treatment methods. Various coat weights were applied onto synthetic fiber sheets. The printability of the coated sheets was evaluated by ink absorption rates and print density. Ink pigment penetration is characterized with a Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope and a Scanning Electron Microscope with chemical analysis with Focused Ion Beam to prepare samples. The contact angle and the ink penetration rates decreased with increasing the coat weight of NFC. This result is the opposite of what the Lucas-Washburn equation would predict;a decrease of contact angle should increase capillary pressure and absorption rate. The ink pigments were captured by the NFC layer and held near the surface, increasing the resistance to fluid penetration. For pigment based flexographic inks, ink pigments were captured at the NFC layer. For dye based inks, the ink components penetrated and moved through the NFC coated layer. For the ink-jet printing, the print quality improved with the NFC coating. The pigments in ink-jet ink were captured near the surface, even though the pigments are nanometer in size. Synthetic fiber sheets coated with NFC did improve in terms of printing resolution and ink density, especially for pigment type inks.

Polycationic nanoparticles are potential as polycationic nonviral vectors (polyplexes) to overcome the defects of traditional viral vectors. The low transfection efficiency in vivo was attributed to poor circulation of polyplexes with high residual positive charges on the surface, which cause them susceptible to agglomerate with negatively charged serum components and to be scavenged by macrophages, whereas, the positive charges are likewise beneficial polyplexes to interact with negative-charged plasma membranes of targeted cells and specifically increase intracellular transfection efficiency of polyplexes. Numerous studies focused on revealing the relationship between the structure of polycationic vectors and the transfection efficiency in vivo. The designed polyplexes in our group to extend nanoparticles circulation is possible to overcome other barriers including endosome escape, cytoplasmic transport and nuclear entry for ultimately successful gene transfection in vivo. Polyplexes circulation was prolonged by modifying with polycations such as PEIs, PDMAEMA, chitosan et al. It was found that PEGylation of polyplexes could improve the stability of polyplexes in vivo but dramatically decrease therapeutic efficiency due to reduced transfection. In addition, the strong hydrophilicity of the PEG segments could dissociate PEGylated polyplexes under the physiological environment and attenuate polycation carrying with target genes. polycationic nonviral gene delivery vectors in order to improve the circulation time and transfection efficiency in vivo for efficient gene therapyin order to improve the circulation time. Polyplexes might be potential to be alternative nonviral gene delivery vectors for efficient clinical therapy.

Nylon1010 and carbon nanotube composites were prepared via in situ polymerization. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images showed the surface structure of composites. Microwave network analyzer HP8510C with direct reflection line calibration procedure are used to test the composites' microwave property. It is observed that the composites has good insulation and can be used as high-energy storage system.
