The aim of this study was to fabricate biomatrix/polymer hybrid scaffolds using an electrospinning technique. Then tissue engineered heart valves were engineered by seeding mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) onto the scaffolds. The effects of the hybrid scaffolds on the proliferation of seed cells, formation of extracellular matrix and mechanical properties of tissue engineered heart valves were investigated. MSCs were obtained from rats. Porcine aortic heart valves were decellularized, coated with poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-4-hydroxybutyrate) using an electrospinning technique, and reseeded and cultured over a time period of 14 days. In control group, the decellularized valve scaffolds were reseeded and cultured over an equivalent time period. Specimens of each group were examined histologically (hematoxylin-eosin [HE] staining, immunohistostaining, and scanning electron microscopy), biochemically (DNA and 4-hydroxyproline) and mechanically. The results showed that recellularization was comparable to the specimens of hybrid scaffolds and controls. The specimens of hybrid scaffolds and controls revealed comparable amounts of cell mass and 4-hydroxyproline (P〉0.05). However, the specimens of hybrid scaffolds showed a significant increase in mechanical strength, compared to the controls (P〈0.05). This study demonstrated the superiority of the hybrid scaffolds to increase the mechanical strength of tissue engineered heart valves. And compared to the decellularized valve scaffolds, the hybrid scaffolds showed similar effects on the proliferation of MSCs and formation of extracellular matrix. It was believed that the hybrid scaffolds could be used for the construction of tissue engineered heart valves.

Poly(3-(p-methyl)benzyl-3,4-dihydro-6-methyl-2H-1,3-benzoxazine) (poly(pCpT)), which was obtained from electrochemicalpolymerization in acetonitrile/alkali aqueous solution, was characterized by FT-IR, UV-Vis and 1H-NMR. The results indicate a ring-opening structure of the polymer. The tetragonally packed cylinder structure was observed in the of comb-coil PS-P4VP(DBSA) block copolymer bearing heteroarm star architecture, where tetragonal lattice appeared at the intermediate binding fraction of DBSA on P4VP block. The heteroarm star PSn-P4VPn, with the average arm number n of both PS and P4VP blocks being 2.6, was prepared by a three three step sequential copolymerization, and the complexes of the copolymer with DBSA were prepared according to the procedure. The SAXS and TEM results have revealed that the heteroarm PS-P4VP(DBSA) comb-coil copolymer exhibits the same self-assembly behavior as its linear counterpart in terms of the effect of the overall binding fraction of comb block on the packing symmetry of the PS cylinders. The hexagonal packing became stable at the stoichiometric binding that resulted in the orthogonal orientation of the smaller scale lamellae with respect to the PS cylinder, demonstrating the self organization behavior in terms of packing symmetry.

The adsorption amount of poly(styrene sulfonate) and poly(dimethyldiallyl ammonium chloride) (PSS/PDDA) self-assembled multilayer membranes in designed dipping solvents were measured by UV-Vis-spectroscopy and quartz crystal microbalance (QCM). Intrinsic viscosities of PSS and PDDA in corresponding dipping solvents were determined by an Ubbelohde viscometer. It is found that the adsorption amount of PSS/PDDA self-assembled multilayer membranes built up in different dipping solutions, added salt concentration, pH of solution and solvent quality, respectively changed oppositely with the corresponding intrinsic viscosity of PSS and PDDA in dipping solvents. A negative relation between the adsorption amount and intrinsic viscosity was revealed, and explained in term of the concept of excluded volume of polymer molecule in dilute solutions.

The phase behavior of hard superballs is examined using molecular dynamics within a deformable periodic simulation box. A superball’s interior is defined by the inequality |x|2q+|y|2q+|z|2q≤1, which provides a versatile family of convex particles (q≥0.5) with cubelike and octahedronlike shapes as well as concave particles (q<0.5) with octahedronlike shapes. Here, we consider the convex case with a deformation parameter q between the sphere point (q=1) and the cube (q=∞). We find that the asphericity plays a significant role in the extent of cubatic ordering of both the liquid and crystal phases. Calculation of the first few virial coefficients shows that superballs that are visually similar to cubes can have low-density equations of state closer to spheres than to cubes. A novel application of ethylene‐norbornene cyclic olefin copolymers (COC) as gate dielectric layers in organic field‐effect transistors (OFETs) that require thermal annealing as a strategy for improving the OFET performance and stability is reported. The thermally‐treated N , N′ ‐ditridecyl perylene diimide (PTCDI‐C13)‐based n‐type FETs using a COC/SiO 2 gate dielectric show remarkably enhanced atmospheric performance and stability. The COC gate dielectric layer displays a hydrophobic surface (water contact angle = 95° ± 1°) and high thermal stability (glass transition temperature = 181 °C) without producing crosslinking. After thermal annealing, the crystallinity improves and the grain size of PTCDI‐C13 domains grown on the COC/SiO 2 gate dielectric increases significantly. The resulting n‐type FETs exhibit high atmospheric field‐effect mobilities, up to 0.90 cm 2 V −1 s −1 in the 20 V saturation regime and long‐term stability with respect to H 2 O/O 2 degradation, hysteresis, or sweep‐stress over 110 days. By integrating the n‐type FETs with p‐type pentacene‐based FETs in a single device, high performance organic complementary inverters that exhibit high gain (exceeding 45 in ambient air) are realized.
