To improve the processability of polyimide (PI), taking p-amino-phenol and dimethyl dichlorosilane as raw materials, an activated monomer of bis(p-aminophenoxy) dimethylsilane (APMSI) containing silicon was prepared. Then the silicone-containing PI was synthesized from APMSI, pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) and 4, 4'-oxydianilline (ODA) with different contents in N, N'-dimethylacetamide (DMAC). The structure of p-acetaminophenol and APMSI was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H NMR and 13C NMR) and melting point apparatus, and the total yield of APMSI was 67%. The construction, thermal property and solution property of pure PI and silicone-containing PI were characterized by FTIR, differential thermal analyzer (DTA), thermo-gravimetric analyzer (TGA) and solution experiment, respectively. Results illustrate that compared with the pure PI, the silicone-containing PI has lower heat resistance and highly improved dissolubility, and its heat resistance becomes higher with the increasing content of activated monomer containing silicon, while its glass transition temperature is decreased greatly.

Novel polypyrrole (PPy) hollow micrometer-sized Y-junctions and capsules were selectively prepared via in-situ polymerization. The rod junctions or particles of benzyl orange (BO) precipitates were used as reactive templates which were obtained by adding HCl or FeCl3 to BO aqueous solution, respectively. PPy formed on the surface of the templates and the templates could be removed easily by routine washing with water for BO-HCl or by direct self-degradation for BO-FeCl3. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results showed that, the PPy hollow Y-junctions and capsules with morphologies similar to those of templates were obtained after templates removal. The effects of pH, the speed of the oxidant addition and the reaction temperature on morphology of the PPy microstructures were investigated and the special hollow structures could be observed always under the appropriate conditions. It was found that more PPy Y-junctions or capsules were obtained when the polymerization rate was decreased either by controlling the speed of oxidant addition or the reaction temperature, implying that the formation of PPy micro/nanostructures by this BO template method is a relatively slow process. Moreover, the structure and property of the PPy microstructures have been characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques and electric conductivity measurements.

Three novel nonlinear chromophores with symmetric D-π-D molecular structure and extended conjugated length were synthesized. Solvatochromism analysis shows great symmetric intramolecular charge transfer occurring in chromophores by the enhancement in the dipole moment between the ground and excited states. The properties of optical power limiting induced by three-photon absorption (3PA) are demonstrated. Large 3PA coefficients and the corresponding molecular cross sections as high as 10^-74 cm^6s^2 were obtained for nanosecond laser pulses at 1.06μm from nonlinear transmission measurements.
