This study proposes a direct teaching method for the task of pressing an end effector attached to a robot manipulator against a workpiece with a constant force. When performing contact tasks, such as deburring or polishing using a manipulator, a passive compliance is required for the end effector to suppress excessive contact force and impact. Therefore, we developed an end effector that combines a 'parallel wire-type teaching device,' which enables direct teaching, and a compliance device. In the case of pressing a workpiece with a constant force, after teaching the robot's trajectory to trace the edge of the workpiece, the amount of pressing can be calculated from the stiffness of the end effector and the desired pressing force;the robot's trajectory can be edited to teach contact tasks. An experiment was conducted to press a straight trajectory with a constant force as the target value and evaluate the accuracy of force teaching. © 2023 ICROS.

Universities can employ information technology as one means of achieving their goals and objectives. Universities can get advantages from information technology, such as effective resource management and information management for decision-making. However, don't forget that the campus must consider what technology is appropriate to assist them achieve their goals, particularly in the current industrial era 4.0 where technology is available with many different choices. The campus requires an enterprise architecture in order to design, manage, and coordinate information technology infrastructure, applications, and processes strategically and thoroughly. The adoption of enterprise information system architecture (EA) is also intended to improve the quality of services provided to internal and external stakeholders. In this case, Enterprise Architecture can help an organization to match its information technology resources with business processes and strategies to achieve their goals. This research was conducted using TOGAF ADM, also known as the Open Group Architecture Framework Architecture Development Method. This method offers best practices for creating enterprise architecture and emphasizes several steps that include creating an architectural vision, information systems, business architecture modeling to help XYZ campus manage all their information technology. © 2023 IEEE.

The fragmentation of health information systems has hindered seamless data exchange in healthcare services, posing challenges in achieving efficient, real-time access to patient health data. This study addresses these issues by evaluating the implementation of a semi-real-time transcription system using a distributed architecture with a message broker to enhance the documentation of clinical examination processes in primary health services. The research focuses on assessing the feasibility of this approach by measuring key performance indicators such as latency and word error rate (WER) during clinical conversation transcription. Audio recordings were segmented into shorter fragments to simulate real-time transcription, and data transmission was conducted through the Advanced Message Queuing Protocol (AMQP). The findings demonstrate that the average latencys achieved by semi-real-time transcription system is 7.7s, indicating its potential suitability for clinical documentation applications that do not require strict real-time processing. However, glitches observed in the message broker's forwarding mechanism suggest the need for further optimization to ensure consistent performance. Future work aims to develop strategies to minimize transcription errors, enhance reliability, and improve the overall integration of this system in healthcare settings. This study contributes to the advancement of health information systems by offering architecture into scalable and effective methods for semi-real-time data transcription and interoperability.

In HV equipment, the most critical and valuable components used is transformers. Power transformers should go through standard diagnostic tests to identify deterioration or to avoid the emergence of defects that might possibly cause severe failure. Frequency Response Analysis already proven to be a promising tool in diagnostic techniques that make use of this understanding to find such changes. FRA has so far been used to detect deformation in transformers by observing changes in the frequency response curve, despite a limited understanding of what caused the changes in the initial case. Several FRA methods have been implemented recently all around the world, primarily for transformer deformation detection and diagnosis. Nonetheless, there is now an increasing amount of research focused on determining specifically the type and degree of deformation in a transformer by looking at its FRA response curve. It is very important to refer to the guidance given in the recently published IEC, IEEE, SPLN, and CIGRE standards to ensure the accuracy of the analysis of the frequency response results. An approach for transformer diagnostics is discussed in this research by doing a comparative analysis with four study cases related to various physical phenomena and examining the cross-combined between standards and field FRA results. Four FRA measurement cases are taken from the experience in PLN, namely: Tayan (water contamination), Sanggau (transformers relocation), Sambas (rebuilding transformer foundation), and Cianjur (earthquake). The evaluation results indicate that the IEEE and IEC diagnostic standards have an assessment that is closest to the actual condition that is influenced by variations in wide band frequency measurement. © 2023 IEEE.

Automatic target recognition (ATR) for 3D synthetic aperture sonar (SAS) imagery is an intrinsic challenge in highly cluttered ocean environments, especially for objects partially or completely buried in the sediment. Conventional dynamic range compression (DRC) techniques such as log-compression, which is a type of tone mapping intended to appeal to the human visual system, can further obscure the sonar signatures of these already physically occluded objects and lead to suboptimal downstream ATR performance, particularly for convolutional neural networks (CNNs). In this paper, we present a novel machine learning-based approach for tone mapping sub-bottom SAS imagery as a pre-processing stage in the 3D SAS ATR pipeline. This learned tone mapping function can be jointly optimized with a CNN-based ATR algorithm. We train and validate our method on measured volumetric SAS data captured by the Sediment Volume Search Sonar (SVSS) system.

Introduction: The purpose of this study is to present a novel approach for gait assessment called gait proficiency index (GPI) using only ground reaction forces (GRF)-derived parameters. Material and methods: Barefoot gait from 51 healthy children was evaluated with the GPI in this study. The participants walked at their self-selected speed along a 6-m walkway with 8 force platforms placed in pairs. The force-time analysis resulted in a dynamic symmetry assessment (DSA) that is the result of vertical GRF component distribution for all gait cycles both the left and right foot. DSA and impulse calculation from GRF led to the calculation of the GPI, which is the relationship between the impulse of load response and mid-stance and impulse of terminal stance and pre-swing of both right and left feet multiplied by the DSA index. The children were divided into three groups with 17 participants each and classified according to age (mean age ± standard deviation): G1 (4.39 ± 0.511), G2 (6.33 ± 0.639), G3 (8.49 ± 0.636). Results: The results show that as children mature, the GPI seems to increase from G1 to G2 and decreases from G2 to G3 and that both the standard deviations and coefficient of variation decrease with the increase of age. Conclusions: This can be an indicative that the index can assess improvements in gait quality through age. However, there was no statistical significance between the groups in this variable. Also, the correlation between either DSA and age or GPI and age found is weak to make other conclusions but that the study of adults should be included to either validate or refute the use of GPI. © 2021, Sociedade Brasileira de Engenharia Biomedica.

The ability to arbitrarily and flexibly control the polarization of light, including both the state of polarization (SoP) and the degree of polarization (DoP), is highly important for quantum optics, polarization imaging, and coherent optical communications. Although metasurfaces have shown promise in polarization control, the few studies focusing on the DoP often lack flexibility in manipulation. Here, we propose a novel approach using a disordered metasurface to flexibly convert natural light into partially polarized light, enabling independent and flexible control over all Stokes parameters. The metasurface is composed of two types of meta-atoms, uniformly distributed with specific quantity ratios, decoupling the design parameters in the process of polarization control, and allowing a one-to-one correspondence between metasurface and polarization spaces. The azimuthal and elevation angles of the SoP on the Poincaré sphere are independently controlled by the meta-atom rotation and size, while the DoP is governed by the quantity ratio. A developed algorithm determines the disordered metasurface arrangement, with theoretical calculations showing an average error of less than 3° for both the azimuthal and elevation angles and a control accuracy of ±0.05 for the DoP. Conventional unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) requires access to source data and/or source model parameters, prohibiting its practical application in terms of privacy, security, and intellectual property. Recent black-box UDA (BDA) reduces such constraints by defining a pseudo label from a single encapsulated source application programming interface (API) prediction, which allows for self-training of the target model. Nonetheless, existing methods have limited consideration for multi-source settings, in which multiple source domain APIs are available to generate pseudo labels. In this work, we introduce a novel training framework for multi-source BDA (MSBDA), dubbed Label Space-Induced Pseudo Label Refinement (LPR). Specifically, LPR incorporates a Pseudo label Refinery Network (PRN) that learns the relationship among source domains conditioned by the target domain only utilizing source API’s prediction. The target model is adapted by our dual phases PRN. First, a warm-up phase targets to avoid failure due to noisy samples and provide an initial pseudo-label, which is followed by a label refinement phase with domain relationship exploration. We provide theoretical support for the mechanism of the LPR. Experimental results on four benchmark datasets demonstrate that MSBDA using LPR achieves competitive performance compared to state-of-the-art approaches with different DA settings. © 1992-2012 IEEE.

Edge computing requires low-power, real-time processing of complex information. Spiking neural networks are highly expected to be applied to edge computing due to their efficient computing properties. Here, we design a mixed-signal LSI consisting of an analog spiking neural network and digital inference circuits for edge device. The two-variable spiking neuron circuits operate in an analog manner using the physical properties of transistors and are connected through synaptic circuits to form a network. The neural network successfully operates and exhibits complex nonlinear behavior in response to external inputs. The power consumption of the spike generation is as low as tens of femtojoules per spike because the transistors in the circuits operate in the subthreshold region, which is enough to be used as edge computing devices. In addition, a digital circuit was designed to perform real-time inference using the spiking sequences from the analog spiking neural network. The result showed that the mixed-signal LSI consisting of the analog spiking neural network and the digital inference circuits can be applied to the spoken digit classification task in real time. The proposed system has the potential to be used as ultra-low-power neuromorphic hardware in practical applications.

An accurate predictive model of temperature and humidity plays a vital role in many industrial processes that utilize a closed space such as in agriculture and building management. With the exceptional performance of deep learning on time-series data, developing a predictive temperature and humidity model with deep learning is propitious. In this study, we demonstrated that deep learning models with multivariate time-series data produce remarkable performance for temperature and relative humidity prediction in a closed space. In detail, all deep learning models that we developed in this study achieve almost perfect performance with an R value over 0.99. © 2023 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.
