This study explored directional connectivity networks during hand movement training in stroke patients using 8 conditions combining mirror therapy, robot-assisted bimanual therapy, and object manipulation. The findings revealed that mirror therapy and robot-assisted bimanual therapy decreased interhemispheric inward connectivity to the affected motor cortex in the left-hand paralyzed patient, reducing inhibitory control. Conversely, these interventions increased interhemispheric inward connectivity in the right-hand paralyzed patient, suggesting enhanced excitatory connectivity. The results emphasized the influence of neurorehabilitation methods, hemiparesis severity, and affected side on interhemispheric connectivity. Further research is needed to develop personalized rehabilitation strategies based on directional connectivity measures.

Dimensionality plays a crucial role in long-range dipole-dipole interactions (DDIs). We demonstrate that a resonant nanophotonic structure modifies the apparent dimensionality in an interacting ensemble of emitters, as revealed by population decay dynamics. Our measurements on a dense ensemble of interacting quantum emitters in a resonant nanophotonic structure with long-range DDIs reveal an effective dimensionality reduction to d¯=2.20(12), despite the emitters being distributed in 3D. This contrasts with the homogeneous environment, where the apparent dimension is d¯=3.00. Our work presents a promising avenue to manipulate dimensionality in an ensemble of interacting emitters.

This study investigates the control mechanisms underlying interpersonal coordination in ballroom dancing. We propose an agent-pair model, to understand the mechanism, that the number of steps increases when dancers dance in pairs compared to when they dance solo, that is, the pair-assist effect. In the proposed model, the agents support each other through holds on their arms, enabling them to take back-arched body postures that allow the agents to realize larger leg strides, which would result in instability if the agents danced alone. Furthermore, each agent adjusts its leg motion based on the compressive force generated by the hold, thereby generating a cooperative motion that suppresses the variation in the hold force due to discrepancies between agents. Simulation results suggest that decentralized motion coordination based on the load via the hold between agents is important in cooperative movements that involve physical contact, as observed in ballroom dancing.

Light-based nanowelding of metallic nanoparticles is of particular interest because it provides convenient and controlled means for the conversion of nanoparticles into microstructures and fabrication of nanodevices. Here, we demonstrated the wavelength dependence of laser-induced nanowelded shapes of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). We observed that the nanowelded microstructures illuminated by the 405 nm laser only were more branched than those formed with illumination of both the 405 nm and 532 nm lasers. We quantified this observation by several compactness descriptors and examined the dependence of the power of the 532 nm laser. More importantly, to understand the experimental observations, we formulated and tested a hypothesis by calculating the wavelength-dependent electric field enhancement due to surface plasmon resonance of the AgNPs and nanowelded microstructures when illuminated with lights at the two wavelengths. Based on the different patterns of "hot spots" for welding AgNPs from these calculations, numerical simulations successfully "reproduced" the different shapes of nanowelded microstructures, supporting our hypothesis. This work suggests the possibility of light-based controlling the shapes of laser-induced nanowelded microstructures of metallic nanoparticles. This work is expected to facilitate the development of better nanowelding strategies of metallic nanoparticles for broader applications. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This article presents the mathematical model of a 2 KW DBI (Dual Buck Inverter) converter that can be used in renewable energy applications. The inverter operating modes are described with the equations that model their behavior with the activation signals of the MOSFETs. The switching model is built. Simulation results are presented by applying linear control through a PI controller and GPC (Generalized Predictive Controller) hybridized in PID structure; simulation results are recorded in PSIM© verifying the control response due to changes in the load and the input DC voltage level.

The popularity of Metaverse as an entertainment, social, and work platform has led to a great need for seamless avatar integration in the virtual world. In Metaverse, avatars must be updated and rendered to reflect users' behaviour. Achieving real-time synchronization between the virtual bilocation and the user is complex, placing high demands on the Metaverse Service Provider (MSP)'s rendering resource allocation scheme. To tackle this issue, we propose a semantic communication framework that leverages contest theory to model the interactions between users and MSPs and determine optimal resource allocation for each user. To reduce the consumption of network resources in wireless transmission, we use the semantic communication technique to reduce the amount of data to be transmitted. Under our simulation settings, the encoded semantic data only contains 51 bytes of skeleton coordinates instead of the image size of 8.243 megabytes. Moreover, we implement Deep Q-Network to optimize reward settings for maximum performance and efficient resource allocation. With the optimal reward setting, users are incentivized to select their respective suitable uploading frequency, reducing down-sampling loss due to rendering resource constraints by 66.076% compared with the traditional average distribution method. The framework provides a novel solution to resource allocation for avatar association in VR environments, ensuring a smooth and immersive experience for all users.

SINR: Deconvolving Circular SAS Images Using Implicit Neural Representations

Circular synthetic aperture sonars (CSAS) capture multiple observations of a scene to reconstruct high-resolution images. We can characterize resolution by modeling CSAS imaging as the convolution between a scene's underlying point scattering distribution and a system-dependent point spread function (PSF). The PSF is a function of the system bandwidth and determines a fixed degree of blurring on reconstructed imagery. In theory, deconvolution overcomes bandwidth limitations by reversing the PSF-induced blur and recovering the scene's scattering distribution. However, deconvolution is an ill-posed inverse problem and sensitive to noise. We propose an optimization method that leverages an implicit neural representation (INR) to deconvolve CSAS images. We highlight the performance of our SAS INR pipeline, which we call SINR, by implementing and comparing to existing deconvolution methods. Additionally, prior SAS deconvolution methods assume a spatially-invariant PSF, which we demonstrate yields subpar performance in practice. We provide theory and methods to account for a spatially-varying CSAS PSF, and demonstrate that doing so enables SINR to achieve superior deconvolution performance on simulated and real acoustic SAS data. The stock market is one of the investment options that offer the best potential returns. However, investors are aware of the risk associated with their investments, which is why stock portfolios are established to diversify investments or distribute investments. Managing a portfolio may be challenging because there are so many different stocks. One of the challenges is deciding how much money to invest and how to allocate it for the best results. This paper used the K-means Algorithm for cluster analysis in identifying Decision Making Unit (DMU), the stocks will be grouped according to their characteristics considering their risk and return. Asset allocation per clustered portfolio was performed and the Mean-Variance Model was used to optimize clustered portfolios. This paper aims to use Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to evaluate the efficiency of these clustered portfolios/DMUs. In addition, this paper introduces subjective choice in decision-making using the criterion's level of importance to help investors decide which among these efficient DMUs is a better option. The results show 4 Efficient DMUs for 2019 Data, and 3 Efficient DMUs in 2020 Data. All simulations were carried out using the MATLAB environment platform.

In this research, we have been developed teaching materials for electromagnetics that demonstrate theories using real-world actual applications (capacitors, coils, piezoelectric elements, Wireless Power Transfer(WPT), WiFi, direct-current motor, etc.) presented as animations and video data via Web services. Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and JavaScript were used to create the Web services for teaching materials. Recently, the lack of academic ability of Japanese engineering course students has become a large social problem at Japanese higher education. In particular, in the field of electrical engineering education, the visualization and mathematical abilities of students have been declining remarkably. In addition, today's teaching materials for educational institutions in Japan tend to reply primarily on rote learning. However, we consider that rote learning is not the primary method for university education. We tested our new developed materials on students learning motivation of electromagnetics and evaluated their effectiveness with some questionnaires. It was clear that the new teaching method has effectiveness for increasing learning motivation of Electromagnetics. © 2020 The Institute of electrical Engineers of Japan.
